TRADITIONAL BRITISH CRUISING • SMALLER SHIPS • FRIENDLY SERVICECruise and Maritime Voyages offer a more traditional and leisurely ‘country house’ style of cruising and maritime experience aboard their classic cruise ships, Marco Polo, Azores, Astor and new flagship, Magellan. The emphasis is very much on providing attentive service within a ‘home from home’ atmosphere. These elegant, smaller sized ships are accessible to more ports of call than the larger resort ships, enabling you to experience some truly innovative itineraries.

MAGELLAN

In 2015 Magellan will become the proud new flagship of the Cruise and Maritime Voyages fleet and like the Marco Polo and Azores will operate as an adult friendly ship. At 46,052grt she will carry about 1250 passengers accommodated in 726 cabins spanning nine passenger decks serviced by eight lifts. Her wide corridors and stairways and expansive deck areas with wood type decking in many areas exude a real feeling of spaciousness with a wide range of comfortable well-appointed lounges and panoramic seating and observation areas ideally suited to their scenic cruise programme. Combining expansive, comfortable surroundings and friendly service with stylish entertainment and delicious cuisine, Magellan is the perfect choice for those looking for a greater range of on board facilities. However, she still retains a feel of intimacy and personal attention when compared with the ‘mega’ resort style ships built today. No climbing walls or ice-skating rinks and no kids!

The Maitre’D and his attentive waiting staff will welcome you to the elegant Waldorf or Kensington Restaurants where you can opt for a full English breakfast, savour a leisurely five-course lunch and enjoy a delightful dinner every day of your cruise. Whilst breakfasts and lunches are generally served in the restaurant on an open seating basis, two fixed time sittings are operated for dinner in the evening. As a casual alternative, the light and airy Raffles Bistro is open every day for buffet style breakfast, lunches and dinner. Here informality is the key and you can feel free to drop in without any ceremony. The Pool Deck lends itself particularly well to al fresco meals so a buffet breakfast or lunch from the Bistro can be served up with a complimentary ocean view!

To start your evening you might opt for a pre-dinner drink here and enjoy a few of your favourite melodies. MAIDEN VOYAGE FOR MAGELLAN

12 nights from only

Sails from Tilbury to Iceland and the Faroes for the Solar Eclipse and Northern Lights

Brand New Solar Eclipse Cruise

£1299pp15th March ‘15

A total solar eclipse will occur on 20th March 2015 off the coast of the remote Faroe Islands. This special maiden cruise aboard Magellan will take you there to witness this phenomenon and hopefully, the amazing ‘solar corona’. Your itinerary takes you to the Scottish Highlands, Shetland and Faroe Islands plus Iceland – the ‘Land of Ice and Fire’, where it may be possible to view the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights.

Situated on the shores of the deep Cromarty Firth and with a fine natural harbour, Invergordon is a key port with an important naval history stretching back through two World Wars. The small, yet modern town is a charming coastal gateway to the beautiful Scottish Highlands and the incredible scenery that forms a stunning backdrop to the romantic castles and historic battlefields which can all be visited on optional excursions along with the ‘Capital of the Highlands’ Inverness. Other popular options include the Glenmorangie Distillery and a visit to the haunting Loch Ness with its legendary monster.

Originally settled by the Norsemen in the 9th century, Lerwick was founded as an unofficial marketplace to service 17th century Dutch herring fleets. The core of the town is a maze of narrow, flagstone streets set behind 18th century sandstone buildings overlooking the busy harbour. Hay’s Dock, once the centre of Shetland’s fishing and boat building industries, is home to the marvellous Shetland Museum and Archives. On the southern tip of Mainland the extraordinary archaeological site of Jarlshof tells the story of some 4,000 years of human history on this remote archipelago with a wealth of wildlife.

Part old Norse, part modern city, the Icelandic capital has a quirky character of its own. Although Reykjavik is one of the world’s smallest capital cities, it is home to almost half of Iceland’s population. Mosaics, murals and sculptures are found throughout the oldest part of the town where brightly coloured houses with tin roofs are watched over by the towering Hallgrimskirkja Church. The classic ‘Golden Circle’ featuring vast lava fields, bubbling mud pools, crashing waterfalls and spouting geysers, is a popular optional excursion along with the chance to bathe in the famous geothermal Blue Lagoon.

Once the site of an annual Viking gathering, Tórshavn is today one of the smallest and most pleasant capital cities in the world. It sits on the southern tip of Streymoy, one of eighteen islands in the Faroese archipelago. Tinganes is the old part of the town where characteristic, red wooden buildings with turf-covered roofs cluster on a narrow peninsula. It juts into the natural harbour around which the modern town has been built. The Faroe Islands have a wild and dramatic landscape, which is a magnificent backdrop to optional excursions showing how islanders live on this remote and unspoiled archipelago.

FIRST CRUISE, MARCO POLO

Reviewed By: Liggins, 2014

We had an absolutely amazing friendly cruise to Fjordland in 2014. The Waldorf restaurant was first class, the cabin was spacious, well finished, all the staff were approachable and willing to help in every way. The trips ashore were fantastic, and plenty of time to sight see. The piano evening entertainment was really lovely and we spent a lot of hours there. There were plenty of interesting things to keep one occupied. Many thanks for a lovely time. I would recommend this cruise to all my family and friends and look forward to going on a second cruise on Marco Polo soon!
