THE CHURCH OF SAINT AGNES, NYC FEBRUARY 10, 2019

The Fifth Sunday

In Ordinary Time

***

5th Sunday After Epiphany (Traditional Latin Mass)

Change your life for the better. Get closer to

Our Lord. How? Stop by and spend some time in

church. Put your thoughts aside and be in the

Presence of the Lord. Once a week, apart from

Sunday, come to Mass. The Mass is the perfect

prayer and brings us back to Our Lord’s death and

resurrection for us through the Cross. If you attend at

lunchtime, you’re afternoon will be better and more

peaceful. In the morning, it changes your day.

Let’s meet for coffee—TODAY!

St. Agnes welcomes everyone to

coffee hour after the 9am Mass today,

Sunday, February 10th. Coffee and

light treats will be served in the lower

church hall. Join us!

WHAT DO I SEE

WHEN I LOOK AT MY LIFE?

Have your ever anguished like St. Paul: “I do

not understand my own actions. For I do not do what

I want, but I do the very thing I hate…Wretched man

that I am! Who will deliver me?” (Rom 7: 15, 24)

If so, join us for an intense journey

into one’s inner core – the God space within,

the image of the invisible God. Join us for a three day program that leverages

knowledge from psychology in a spiritual environ-

ment where you will experience personal exploration

and sharing combined with praise and worship, con-

fession, and daily Mass. The Retreat Leader: Rev. Fr . Johny Dominic PhD,

Asst. Director, Sumedha Centre for Psychology and

Spirituality (in India), and former parochial vicar of

St. Agnes (2008-2015), who specializes in helping

people explore and address their emotional conflicts

as a pathway to a deeper inner life in Christ. Date & Time: February 22, 2019 (8:00 a.m.) to

February 24, 2019 (6:00 p.m.) Venue: The Church of St. Agnes,

143 East 43rd Street, NYC. Cost (for 3 days): $295 per person (Payment may

be made in favor of Salesian Missions) Last date to register: February 13, 2019 For more information / registration contact:

SAINT PATRICK’S DAY GAELIC MASS

Saturday, March 16th – 9:00 AM

St. Agnes is pleased to announce that Fr. Aidan O’Drisscoll of Co. Cork will

celebrate our Annual Gaelic Mass on Saturday, March 16th at 9:00 AM.

Fr. Michael Barrett will deliver the homily in English. The readings will be in Gaelic,

coordinated by Eileen Zurell. Vonny Quinn will sing Gaelic and Alex Pattavina will

accompany on the organ. We will have bagpipes in front of the church before and after

Mass. Please join us for this beautiful celebration (and St. Agnes tradition!) for the

feast of St. Patrick. For more information, please contact Anna Megan at the rectory

office (212 682 5722) or by e-mail at [email protected].

God has given the Church men & women who,

though their own life experiences and relationship

with Him, have something to teach us. Meditating

on a few quotes can give fresh life to our practice. 1. Don't let your life be barren. Be useful. Make

yourself felt. Shine forth with the torch of your faith

and your love. With your apostolic life, wipe out the trail of

filth and slime left by the corrupt sowers of hatred.

And set aflame all the ways of the earth with the fire

of Christ that you bear in your heart. 2. How I wish your bearing and conversation were

such that, on seeing or hearing you, people would say:

This man reads the life of Jesus Christ. 3. Maturity. Stop acting the child; drop that affec-

tation that only suits a silly girl. Let your outward

conduct reflect the peace and order of your soul. 4. Don't say: 'That's the way I'm made... it's my

character.' It's your lack of character: Be a man. 5. Get used to saying 'No.' 6. Turn your back on the tempter when he whis-

pers in your ear: 'Why make life difficult for yourself?' 7. Get rid of that 'small-town' outlook. Enlarge

your heart till it becomes universal, 'Catholic'. Don't flutter about like a hen, when you can soar

to the heights of an eagle.
