Primary Standard - KHPPrimary Standard - KHP
Stable at room temperature Easily dried Will not readily absorb water Mass can be accurately determined
Use mass to find moles
StandardizationStandardization
Concentration of unknown acetic acid
Concentration of NaOH
Accurate mass of KHP
ProcedureProcedure
Write the procedure before you come to lab in your lab notebook.
Day 1 – Should complete 3 GOOD standardization titrations of the NaOH
Day 2 – Should complete 3 GOOD titrations of the acetic acid
Experiment TipsExperiment Tips
Do no refill NaOH bottle. Fill bottle at start of experiment.
Do one quick titration with large increments to see determine the approximate equivalence point.
Do smaller increments for your three good titrations.
You should see two graphs on the screen. If you do not see the 2nd derivative graph, notify your TA.
Experiment TipsExperiment Tips
Swirl solutions after every addition of NaOH. Burettes can be read up to the 2nd decimal
place. Record EXACT volumes added; each increment
does not have to be exactly the same. Do not put spatulas into your solutions. Rinse sensor before and after use.
