It is a pleasure to introduce myself to you as Principal of Anne Hamersley Primary School and I am excited to join the Anne Hamersley community. I have come from Ashfield Primary School, where I was also Principal, with fifteen years' experience in education and the past twelve years in leadership. My belief is that “Every child matters and every child can learn, everyday”. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know each and every one of you, students and parents. I have already met many of the students in their classroom’s and in the playground and have been wel- comed by their delightful personalities and wonderful manners. Parents, please feel free to stop by the office or come and say hello when I am out and about either before or after school. I am looking forward to meeting the P&C, School Board members and school community as we work together to enhance the fantastic work that is being done at Anne Hamersley Primary School. I would like to thank all of the wonderful staff, who have made me feel very welcome joining the team. I would also like to thank Mr Rob Guy for the wonderful job he has done leading the school in the Principal role this year through what has been some very uncertain times. I am very lucky to have Mr Guy and Mrs Bell alongside me in my leadership team to be able to guide the planning and update me on the history of the school. Application for Children’s Crossing – Volunteers Required As you know, the P&C has been working to apply for a children’s crossing to be installed on surrounding roads to ensure the safety of our students and parents. The first stage of this process requires the P&C to undertake informal counts of pedestrians and vehicles – this survey is required to assist the application process. Without this count the P&C is unable to submit an application. The P&C are calling for volunteers to assist with the counting of pedestrians and vehicles, commencing next week Monday 19 October. If you are able to assist, please contact Elizabeth Brear on 0418 921 334. Your time is very much appreciated. Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to welcome the staff, students and families back for the commencement of Term 4. I have already met many of the students in their classroom’s and in the playground and have been wel-comed by their delightful personalities and wonderful manners.

A reminder that the Colour Explosion is on this Friday 16/10/20!!

Don’t forget a white t-shirt for the students to get colour on.

Due to Covid19 restrictions this is a STUDENT ONLY event.

We do ask that you bring a spare change of clothes to school, most importantly a plain white shirt as the students will be covered in powder from head to toe. The day’s focus is on fun and fitness with the added benefit of raising funds for our

school.

Now is the time to log back into your online accounts and do some more fundraising!

Students who raise as little as $10 or more will receive an incentive prize for their efforts. But why not aim higher? You have the option to choose up to five (5) prizes and this will set your fundraising goal. Family and friends are your great-

est supporters, so ask them first for your support. You will reach your fundraising goal in no time.

Student Profile Page

Create a Student Profile Page at www.myprofilepage.com.au which is unique to you. There are also some great

features like recording your sponsorships and selecting your prize goal.

You can also register for online fundraising. It’s the easiest way to help your child raise money and to reach your fund-

raising goal sooner.

WIN A SHARE OF $200,000 WORTH OF FREE SPONSORSHIP DONATIONS. Create a Student Profile Page at www.myprofilepage.com.au and enter your unique code found on page five (5) of your Sponsorship Form to see if

you’re an instant winner. Give your fundraising goal a kick start!

Lying

By Professor Matt Sanders

Pre-schoolers sometimes mix up reality and fantasy, but we expect that by primary school, children will know the differ-

ence between the two.

To discourage lying, parents need to explain to their child why lying is wrong and the consequences of lying.

For example, you could briefly and calmly tell your child: “Tania, I feel disappointed when you lie. It makes it hard to

believe anything you say. If you keep telling lies you will find that nobody will trust you.”

Give your child opportunities to be honest and praise them for telling the truth. Your positive response will

encourage them to repeat their honesty in future. Even when a child admits to telling a lie, praise them first for their

honesty, before proceeding with the disciplinary consequences.

If your child is finding it hard not to tell lies, you might need to set up a written contract signed by you and your child.

This contract should state what you expect your child to do and the rewards and consequences that will follow. If

they have lied, the consequences for that behaviour are clearly listed in the contract.

As your child learns to not lie, you will no longer need a written contract as you and your child will have established a

more permanent contract of trust.
