River cruising — a better way to exploreNothing compares to a river. How else but on a river can you journey into the very heart of the

world’s greatest cities and most charming towns, discovering the true nature of the land and its people?

Where else but on a river could you be gently carried along on an elegant, intimate ship,

docking right in the heart of town, strolling off to begin your exploration?

How else but on a river would you travel with such ease, unpacking just once and enjoying

the ever-changing scenery along the banks?

Comfortable and convenient, river cruising offers a greater variety of destinations than you can find

any other way. Spend less time getting there, and more time being there. Small wonder so many people

have fallen in love with this relaxing, immersive and thoroughly enjoyable form of travel.

Viking River Cruises® — every detail mattersInspiring destinations, hand-selected itineraries, expert tour guides, state-of-the-art ships, fine cuisine,

excellent service and remarkable value — our success is defined by all these things. But there’s something

else, too: personal attention to every detail. It’s the way your bartender has your drink ready for you at

just the right time. The gentle guidance from your tai chi master during your lesson in China, or the

handwritten directions from your concierge to the best coffeehouse in Vienna.

By owning and operating our ships, no detail escapes our attention. It is what sets us apart from our

competitors. Every aspect of your cruise, from expertly designed menus to the carefully crafted

enrichment program and beautifully appointed ships, is planned to bring you closer to experiencing the

most from your destination.

At Viking, we never forget that looking after you well is how we became the world’s leading river cruise

line. It’s why our guests return again and again. And why we have consistently been the most awarded

river cruise line worldwide.

Dining al fresco on the Aquavit Terrace

“ Notable among the Viking Longships public areas is the addition of a new indoor/outdoor

lounge called the Aquavit Terrace. It is the perfect place to enjoy a drink and the company of

new friends while admiring the stunning scenery. This is easily one of the best innovations

found on the Viking Longships.”

– Ralph Grizzle, Editor; The Avid Cruiser

THE CHOICE IS YOURS

We know that a croissant and a cappuccino tastes

best on the Viking Longship’s Aquavit Terrace as the

river comes to life in the early morning. That a casual

lunch in the lounge gives you extra time to explore

your favorite port. That the day’s discoveries should

be shared over a glass of wine and dinner — a time

to savor exceptional food and exchange stories.

You have choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Not just in food selection, but also in where and

how you enjoy them. Greet the morning with

a warm muffin and freshly brewed coffee on

deck, or start your day with a sumptuous buffet

breakfast. Have a casual lunch al fresco, or join

friends in the restaurant. And for dinner, savor our

chefs’ artistry with a multi-course meal or enjoy

an evening under the stars on the Aquavit Terrace.

In the company of friends.

A VISUAL, EDIBLE FEAST

Viking’s signature ’Taste of...’ events introduce

you to the food and drink of the region, such

as our ‘Taste of Germany,’ featuring pretzels and

sweet mustard, leberwurst and Kölsch. These

events are a wonderful opportunity to mingle with

fellow guests and enjoy a delicious sampling of

regional cuisines.

Celebrating fine food… in the company of friendsWe believe that the most important ingredient of a great meal is the company of friends, old and new.

Our ships’ restaurants are intimate, comfortable and inviting; our service is friendly and attentive.

Much of the joy of travel is in the discovery of new and exciting dishes and the places they represent.

While our highly trained chefs are passionate about food, they are even more passionate about

providing a memorable experience.

THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX

A distinctive feature of our Viking Longships: true Suites and full-size Veranda Staterooms.

Because of an exclusive patented

ship design,* our Viking Longships

offer river cruising’s first-ever

true Suite: two full-size rooms

complete with a full-size veranda

and French balcony. Additionally,

our unique Veranda Staterooms

feature full-size rooms with full-size

verandas. It’s just one more way our

innovative thinking provides more

choice and a better experience for

our guests.

The Viking Longships— revolutionary ships, unprecedented awardsThe Viking Longships maintain our longstanding tradition of setting new

standards: since their launch in 2012, they have received acclaim for their

innovative design, outstanding quality and state-of-the-art engineering.

In an unprecedented move, Cruise Critic editors recognized the entire

Viking Longships fleet as the year’s Best River Cruise Ship. This marks the

first time this award has been presented to an entire class of ship — and

these award-winning Viking Longships are the majority of our European

fleet, with ships sailing in France beginning in 2014.

popular European itineraries:

YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME

An innovative, creative departure from traditional

ship design, our Viking Longships feature a patented

corridor design* that offers you a choice of stateroom

category unlike any other. From spacious Veranda

Staterooms and French Balcony Staterooms with a

sliding glass door, to the two-room Veranda Suites,

each offers casual comfort and excellent river views.

Or, choose one of two stunning Explorer Suites —

the largest on Europe’s rivers — with wraparound

verandas providing 270° views.

RELAX ON THE AQUAVIT TERRACE

Revolutionary in concept and design, the Aquavit

Terrace is a glorious outdoor seating area at the

bow of the ship where you can have a casual

meal al fresco, meet friends for drinks or read a

book — all while enjoying breathtaking views and

basking in the fresh air.

GOING GREEN

Your Viking Longships’ energy-efficient hybrid

engines propel you along Europe’s storied

waterways; with far less vibration, these ships are

the quietest on the rivers. And, we have added

two additional “green” features: solar panels and

an organic herb garden atop the sun deck.

For more information on the Viking Longships, see pages 74-75.

Viking’s Russia and Ukraine fleet setting the standard…againWhile the names of the Viking Longships were inspired by Norse deities,

our fully refurbished Russian and Ukrainian ships are named for the first

intrepid Varangians, Viking explorers who founded the Rurikid dynasty

that ruled the land we know today as Russia. Our company began in Russia

with a fleet of trendsetting vessels that became the model for modern river

cruising along Russia’s waterways.

Our fully refurbished fleet of

Russian and Ukrainian ships sail

our most popular itineraries:

TRUE TO OUR HERITAGE

From the beginning, we stayed true to the principle

that every detail matters — Viking became the

very first Western-owned river cruise line in

Russia, a position it still holds today. Now, more

than 15 years later, the completely transformed

fleet represents the standard by which all other

Russian ships are measured. We are introducing

our fifth ship in Russia, Viking Akun. Plus, our

fully refurbished Ukraine ship debuts in 2014 as

Viking Sineus. With Suites, Junior Suites and Deluxe

Staterooms on Upper and Middle decks — all with

verandas — we offer unmatched choice and quality

in the region.

A ROOM WITH A VIEW

Each stateroom was designed with your comfort in

mind — from hotel-style beds, spacious closets and

full-size bathrooms to amenities including flat-panel

televisions with English programming and bottled

water. Plus, verandas let you greet the day with

a breath of fresh air and a spectacular panorama.

Our public areas were designed to give you the

best views. Whether from the sun deck, Panorama

lounge or restaurant, you have uninterrupted

sightseeing along these incomparable waterways.

The best people… the most personal serviceCan a reservations agent make booking your vacation a pleasure? Can a waiter make you feel as if you

are the most important person in the world? Can a concierge feel like a long-lost friend? Yes, if that team

works for Viking. When you have the best people, you also have the best service.

Choice: It’s your day… enjoy it your waySome days you want to see beyond every hill, visit every attraction, look in every shop. Other days you

want to slow down and linger — or just sit at a sidewalk café, watching the world go by.

EXPLORING ASHORE

Maybe you want to spend most of your time in

port on a guided tour that takes in as much as

possible. Would you prefer to see only the key

sights with a local expert, before venturing out on

your own? Or, would you rather go at your own

pace today? Whatever your choice, you always

have the freedom to do it your way, and we help

you every step of the way.

Have you ever wanted to visit the vaults of the

famed Hermitage Museum? Attend a classical

concert in Vienna? Enjoy a Tang Dynasty dinner

show in Xian? Your Program Director can organize

a variety of optional tours.

PERSONALIZE WITH OUR CONCIERGE SERVICE

While our tailor-made included and optional

excursions are a great way to experience a port,

you may want to go off the beaten path — an

appointment at the best spa in Prague, dinner at

one of Lyon’s Michelin-star restaurants or tickets

for a special exhibit. Our Viking Concierge is there

to assist you in making your dreams come true.

Think of each day as an opportunity to choose

how to enjoy your day…in your own way.

As you sail along a peaceful stretch of the Danube, you approach a gold and ivory imperial fortress, resplendent with elegant details. See its interior, featuring soaring frescoes on walls and ceilings, and a glorious spiral staircase, on your tour.

Danube’s Oldest City

Walk through Regensburg, one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities and a UNESCO Site. Founded by Marcus Aurelius over 2,000 years ago, its many architectural highlights include the 12th-century Old Stone Bridge and St. Peter’s Cathedral with its Romanesque tower inside a newer Gothic one.

Austria’s Wachau Valley

The Wachau Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, nestled between the quaint Austrian cities of Melk and Krems along the Danube River. Many picturesque towns and vineyards are located along this 24-mile stretch, and the area is perfect for a leisurely sailing, taking photographs or just relaxing and enjoying a glass of one of its many local vintages.

Classical Music Capital

Known as the “City of Waltzes,” Austria’s capital of Vienna is widely considered to be the center of classical music. Here Strauss, Beethoven and Mozart composed many of their best-known works. Medieval Toll Booths

The castles along the Rhine Valley were originally constructed as fortified residences to protect the land from marauders — but castle owners also utilized their strategically advantageous positions to impose tolls on passing merchants. This may explain why you will see so many castles while cruising the 35-mile stretch of the Rhine between Mainz and Bonn.

Ancient Heidelberg

Heidelberg is home to Germany’s oldest university, founded in 1386. It also features one of the Rhine’s most distinctive landmarks — the red sandstone ruins of Heidelberg Castle. Situated high above the town, the castle has sweeping views of the Neckar River Valley and

Heidelberg’s red-roofed charm. Stroll along narrow cobbled streets, shop in wide squares, see the imposing gates of the Old Town area and walk across the town’s famous Old Bridge.

Alsatian Cuisine

This region produces a savory cuisine that perfectly merges hearty German fare with French elegance. A typical dish is choucroute, featuring fermented white cabbage layered with spicy smoked pork —best served with potatoes and an Alsatian pinot blanc. Other meat specialties include Baeckeoffe, a traditional stew of marinated beef or lamb; charcuterie, sausages and other cured meats; goose liver pâté and Muenster cheese — enjoy them with a Gewürztraminer, Riesling or a hearty Kronenbourg beer.

Cologne’s Cathedral

For a short time, the Cologne Cathedral was the world’s tallest building with its magnificent spires rising above the city. The cathedral’s construction took over 600 years to complete. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a stunning example of Gothic architecture. Admire the lovely stained-glass windows as you walk through its vaulted interior.

A few highlights of your journeyThe Scenic Main River

Everyone knows about the beauty of the Rhine and the Danube’s lovely Wachau Valley, but the Main River — an important Rhine tributary — is a little-known scenic treasure. Picture-perfect vineyards and unspoiled hamlets line the river as you sail along; the views are particularly stunning when the fall foliage puts on its annual display.

European Wine Regions

This itinerary takes you through several of Europe’s famous wine regions. Enjoy the sun-drenched white Rieslings of the Moselle and Rhine region, the Franconian wines along the Main and the peppery Grüner Veltliners in the Wachau Valley. And, be sure to try the rich dessert wines of Hungary.

Bavarian Bamberg

Founded in 902, Bamberg’s Old Town area is a beautifully preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk past neat rows of patrician houses to the remarkable Old City Hall, sited in the middle of the Regnitz River and accessed by bridges on both sides. During free time, sample the town’s famous smoky beer, Rauchbier.

Charlemagne’s Dream

Some 1,200 years ago, Emperor Charlemagne contemplated connecting the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers to facilitate river travel through Europe. It was finally realized when the Main-Danube Canal was completed in 1992. Employing ingenious river locks, vessels can now travel 2,200 miles through 10 countries, from the North Sea to the Black Sea.

Bratislava Bronzes

If you look carefully, you will notice that not everyone in Bratislava is made of flesh and blood. Some of the Slovakian capital’s most beloved citizens are cast in bronze. The most famous is Cumil, the Watcher, peeking out from a manhole in the street. There are others here and there; keep your eyes peeled!

The Town of Music

The fourth-largest city in Austria, Salzburg is known for its great beauty, and for being the setting for the musical and film, The Sound of Music. It is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose childhood home can still be seen. The baroque Old Town area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend a delightful day there on this itinerary.

Treasures in Budapest

A quick stroll from the dock in Budapest takes you to one of the city’s best marketplaces — the Great Market Hall, established in 1897. A variety of shopping stalls await you —supermarket and fishmongers in the basement, greengrocers and spice vendors on street level, and fine linens, knickknacks and delicious Hungarian treats like sausages and sweet pancakes on the floor above. A must-see.

Sample Vienna’s Most Wanted

Luckily, two delicious treats on your Vienna to-do list — the traditional Sachertorte and the city’s famous coffee — can be savored together. The original Sachertorte recipe has been a closely guarded Hotel Sacher secret since 1832, but most coffeehouses sell their own versions. Enjoy a cup of Viennese coffee and a sweet treat.

The Danube’s Iron Gate

The Iron Gate area of the lower Danube River is one of the world’s most scenic river gorges. Enormous white chalk cliffs flank the river, which forms part of the boundary between Serbia and Romania. Marvel at the large carved face of the ancient Dacian king Decebalus on the cliff sides.

Lunchtime in Bulgaria

Disembark for a full day’s excursion to Bulgaria’s former capital, Veliko Tarnovo. Explore Tsaravets Hill and the royal castle ruins; proceed to Arbanasi for lunch with the locals. Try a typical dish like shopska salad, made from chopped vegetables and a white brined cheese. Taste kavarma, a Bulgarian chicken stew made in a clay pot. For dessert, have traditional Bulgarian yogurt with honey and chopped nuts.

Home on the Puszta

Stretching across Hungary is a vast prairie known as the Puszta. Here the hardy, whip-cracking horse herders known as csikós lived and worked. Like the fabled cowboy of the American west, the 19th-century csikós have been romanticized in Hungarian folk songs, dances and literature. Enjoy an exciting demonstration of traditional Puszta horsemanship and other folk arts.

A few highlights of your journeyThe World’s Largest Art Museum

Over the span of 250 years, the collection of the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, has grown to more than three million items including works from noted artists such as da Vinci, Michelangelo and Rubens as well as Cézanne, van Gogh and Picasso. These treasures are housed along the embankment of the Neva River, in the heart of St. Petersburg. The highlight in this architectural ensemble is the Winter Palace, former residence of Russian Tsars including Catherine the Great — just one of the works of art you will see on your tour.

A Legend Restored

Constructed of amber panels backed with gold leaf and mirrors, the Amber Room was given to Peter the Great by a Prussian King in 1716. Installed at Catherine’s Palace in Pushkin, it was later extended to cover nearly 600 square feet with over six tons of amber.

During World War II, German soldiers disassembled the room and it was never seen again. In 2003, a painstaking reconstruction was completed, enabling visitors to once again enjoy its brilliance. Admire it on your palace tour.

The Heart of Moscow

In Russian, the word kremlin refers to any major fortified complex. But in Moscow there is one very special

Kremlin, adjacent to Red Square. Inside its crenellated red brick walls you will see four palaces and a variety of churches, monasteries and official buildings — as well as one enormous bell. It also serves as the official residence of Russia’s President.

A few highlights of your journeyA few highlights of your journeyHistoric, Yet Modern

Shanghai is China’s largest city; with a population of more than 20 million it is actually one of the world’s largest cities. Located at the mouth of the Yangtze River on the China Sea, it is also the world’s largest cargo port. Visitors enjoy seeing historic areas like the waterfront Bund as well as modern wonders like the stunning Pudong skyline. The city offers world-class museums, shopping, dining and nightlife as well.

Encounter Ancient Warriors

In Xian, tour the mausoleum where Emperor Qin Shi Huang was laid to rest over 2,000 years ago, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There, see some of the thousands of life-sized Terra Cotta Warriors that were buried with him. Walkways provide a bird’s-eye view of the manmade necropolis where the Terra Cotta Army was discovered in the 1970s. Marvel at each man and horse, molded with its own distinctive features.

Shibaozhai Temple

With the literal translation of “Precious Stone Fortress,” the Shibaozhai Temple is a wondrous sight along the Yangtze River. Originally built in 1650 hugging the cliffs high above the river, this Qing Dynasty architectural masterpiece now stands alongside the river as the water level has risen with the completion of the Three Gorges Dam. Climb to the top of the 12-story red pavilion for spectacular views.

Elementary School Visit

Viking River Cruises sponsors three much-needed elementary schools in small towns along the Yangtze River. During your cruise, you will stop to visit one of these schools and have

the opportunity to interact with the students. Enjoy a warm greeting from the children, watch them put on a song and dance performance and visit their classrooms. Share stories, smiles, photos and fun as you experience life in China through their eyes.

That’s Entertainment

Enjoy the dazzling dexterity of the famous Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe during a wonderful performance. Their movement is art — tightly choreographed and rehearsed endlessly. Be amazed as these athletes spin, fly, dance and demonstrate balance and flexibility at their best.

The Viking Longships: Best New River Ship,“The first six of Viking’s revolutionary Longships debuted in 2012, offering an airy ambiance with plenty of big-ship amenities. Verandas are full-sized. Suites, mirroring hotel accommodations, each offer two-rooms. The Aquavit Terrace, an indoor-outdoor casual eatery, is a dedicated alternative restaurant. And the ships are state-of-the-art when it comes to engineering, with hybrid engines, solar panels and even an organic herb garden.“ – Cruise Critic editors

CRUISE, TOUR & AIR PRIC ING NOTES & OFFER RESTRICTIONS

Pricing Notes: On all sail dates the discount is per stateroom based on double occupancy. Single supplement savings are off applicable rates. Cruise fares listed are cruise only in U.S. dollars, per person, based on double occupancy. Cruise fares listed are valid for North American residents only. Cruise ship fuel surcharge may apply. All fares and offers are for new bookings only as of October 1, 2013, are subject to availability, may not be combinable with other offers except Past Guest Travel Credit and Referral Rewards Credit, are capacity controlled and may be withdrawn at any time without prior notice. Fares are based upon published full brochure fares; all cruise fares are cruise only, and do not include pre-paid charges, optional facilities and service fees, and personal charges, as defined in the terms and conditions of the Passenger Ticket Contract which may be viewed at vikingcruises.com. Full brochure fares may not have resulted in actual sales in all stateroom categories and may not have been in effect during the last 90 days. Promotional fares may remain in effect after the expiration date. Air promotion applies to roundtrip flights only from select Viking Cruises North American gateways and includes airport-to-ship or hotel transfers, air taxes and air fuel surcharges. Explore More pricing is based on extension hotel check-in date. Viking reserves the right to correct errors or omissions and to change any and all fares, fees and surcharges at any time. For up-to-date prices, please call Viking at 1-877-668-4546. The cruise ship fuel surcharge is additional revenue to Viking River Cruises, as does any additional charge relating to currency fluctuation other than for fully paid cruise fares and full fares, which fluctuations are beyond our control. Additional terms and conditions may apply. Complete terms and conditions may be found in the Passenger Ticket Contract at vikingcruises.com.

International Airfare: Air prices are per person based on the cruise or cruisetour check-in date, and include transfers plus all government taxes and fees of approximately $160 and air fuel surcharges. Paid Business or Premium Economy Class may require travel in economy on flights within the United States, Europe or Asia. Premium Economy is limited to specific airlines and we may not be able to accommodate based on aircraft type and availability. Air seats are limited; airfares are subject to change until full payment of air is received. A forced overnight or long layover may be required based on available air schedules and may require departing the U.S. one day earlier. Forced overnight/transit hotel may be included with purchase of roundtrip international air from Viking in which flights arrive/depart on ship/hotel check-in/check-out day (not combinable with custom air, stopovers or deviations). Roundtrip airport transfers are included when air is purchased with a cruise or cruisetour package; if air is not purchased from Viking, transfers may be purchased separately. All transfers must be in conjunction with a Viking-purchased cruise, cruisetour, land extension or extra hotel nights. Additional airline imposed baggage charges may apply; consult your airline. Additional gateways are available; visit our website or call 1-877-668-4546 for current prices. Additional terms and conditions may be viewed at vikingcruises.com.
