14 Day Garden Route Tour

South Africa | Lesotho

Ride the Drakensberg and Lesotho Mountains in the north east of South Africa and

then head south to ride the world famous Garden Route with its beautiful mountain

passes, evergreen forests and coastal vistas

We start in Pretoria, South Africa and make our way to the Mountainous Kingdom of Lesotho. Here we ride more turns within 80 km than any other road in Africa.

Next up we head back into South Africa again and ride through Golden Gate National Park and the mighty Drakensberg Mountains.

We reach the Indian Ocean at East London and the enjoy a world class safari into Addo

Elephant National Park- spotting Lions, Elephants, Rhino, leopard and Buffalo.

We are now in the famous Garden Route and we spend the next several days riding beautiful mountain passes, forest meanders and desert roads . We spend a night at the mighty Storms River Mouth, ride to the Knsyna Heads, and visit Ostriches in Oudtshoorn.

Next up we ride all the way to the Southern Most Point of Africa at Cape Agulhas and spend a night on a wine farm in the Cape Winelands before riding 0ver 200km of amazing coastal roads all the way into Cape Town.

Day 0: Arrive in South Africa- Bonus Night

Welcome to South Africa! This is your Bonus Night, so

you can arrive at any time as the tour only officially

starts the next day. A friendly Sama Tours

representative will collect you from the Airport and

transfer you to your hotel in Pretoria.

Day 1: Day Tour of Pretoria and BIG 5

Safari by motorcycle ( 0-50km )

Highlights: Township tour and BIG 5 motorcycle

Safari

This morning we will hand over your motorcycle

to you and sign all the paperwork. After that is

complete we will have a tour briefing and then

the fun begins. We start off by taking a tour of a

small township just North of Pretoria to

experience all the vibrant colors, sounds and

tastes of Africa. We will have lunch in a tavern in

the township. Afterwards we enjoy a guided

motorcycle ride through a BIG 5 nature reserve.

Rhinos, giraffes, impala’s and wildebeest can all

be spotted from your motorcycle. Tonight we

have a welcome dinner in an African Boma.

Day 2: Pretoria To Clarens +- 400km

Highlights: Historic Motorcycle Museum, Golden

Sandstone Cliffs

After a delicious breakfast we make our way

through South Africa's Orange countryside to

Clarens. This is a delightful ride. We stop in at the

beautiful town of Deneysville on the banks of the

Vaal Dam where we have lunch at a historical

motorcycle museum. After lunch we ride through

South Africa's very own Bethlehem, arriving at

Clarens in the late afternoon. Clarens is an artists

paradise: poets, painters and sculpturers from all

corners come to Clarens its famous GOLDEN

Sunsets. Spend the late afternoon wondering

around the craft shops and have dinner in one of

the numerous restaurants in town

Day 3: Clarens- Lesotho- Clarens (+- 412km)

Highlights: Lesotho Mountain passes, Katze Dam

On this day we will experience a very exciting ride

to Katze Dam in Lesotho. After an early start, we

enter the Lesotho border and make our way

towards Katze Dam (a huge man made dam that

forms part of the Highlands water project which

supplies water to South Africa in times of

drought) The road to the dam has more turns

within 80km than any other road in Africa. A

motorcycle riders' dream.The condition of the

road is excellent with very little traffic. The Katze

Dam is truly eye opening! After lunch we return

along the same road arriving back at the hotel in

the late afternoon.

Day 4: Clarens to Underberg (+-435km)

Highlights: Majestic Drakensberg, Golden Gate

National Park

Todays ride is unbelievably scenic. We ride down

through the Golden Gate National Park. This park

is made up of sandstone cliffs, with scenic rocks

and other interesting landforms. Watch out for

Antelope and vervet monkeys crossing the road-

you’re in the wild here! We spend the rest of the

day riding through the majestic Drakensberg

Mountains and arrive in Underberg in the early

afternoon.

Day 5: Underberg to East London (+-

540km) Highlights: Relaxing Ride

Today is a relaxing ride through the foothills of

the Drakensberg mountains. In the late

Afternoon, we arrive in East London- a small city

situated on the Indian Ocean.

Day 6: East London to Addo Elephant

National Park (+- 247 km)

Highlights: Wildlife @Addo Elephant

Today we make our way through the rolling hills

of the Eastern Cape, stopping in to see the Giant

Pineapple in Bathurst. In the early afternoon we

will arrive at the Addo Elephant National Park-

home to Africa's famous BIG 5. Later we will

embark on a sunset game drive in an open safari

vehicle. Addo is famous for its large herds of

elephants

Day 7: Addo Rest Day (0-50km) Highlights: Safari, Safari, Safari

Enjoy a day completely focused on wildlife. Enjoy

2 Exciting game drives into a Big 5 Nature

Reserve. The Game Rangers will make the bush

come alive and they share their knowledge and

insight with you. In between Game Drives you can

relax and unwind back at our beautiful guest

house.




Day 8: Addo to Tsitsikamma (+- 221 km)

Highlights Storms River Mouth

Today we follow the coastal route to the start of

the famous Garden Route. We ride into the

Tsitsikamma National Park and sleep in wooden

cabins overlooking Storms River Mouth. You will

have the whole afternoon free to explore this

beautiful National Park. Storms River is the start

of our famous “Otter Trail” and you can can walk

part of the hike down to the breathtaking

suspension bridges between the sea cliffs. Enjoy

an evening spent in this very unique camp

overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Day 9: Tsitsikamma – Knsyna-

Oudtshoorn (+- 260 km)

Highlights: Exploring Knysna, Riding the Garden

Route

Today we ride the world-famous Garden Route.

Our firsts top is the spectacular Bloukrans Gorge.

Bloukrans is home to the world Highest Bungee

Jump- 216 Meters of pure Adrenalin. Next up we

ride into Knysna and marvel at the beautiful

Knysna Heads. From here riders can either take

the dirt or tar route into the Mountains. Both

option include unbelievable views and

spectacular mountain roads- that the Garden

Route in Known for. We will arrive in

Oudtshoorn- the Ostrich Capital of South Africa-

in the late afternoon. This will be our home for

the next two nights.

Day 10: Rest Oudtshoorn (+- 0-200 km)

Highlights: Garden Route, Ostrich farms, Cango

Caves and spectacular mountain passes

Today is a rest day- but there is so much to see and

do. We will have a guided tour of the Cango Caves

with its beautiful stalactites and stalacmites and a

tour of a working Ostrich farm- where you will get to

feed, touch and hug Ostriches. For those that would

like to do some more exciting dirt riding there will be

an optional ride over the famous Swartberg Pass, this

is a bucket list ride for Adventure Bikers the world

over. This Afternoon-relax and enjoy the warm Karoo

Hospitality that this area is known for. This evening

we will be treated to a traditional Ostrich Braai (BBQ)

that will tantalize your taste buds.

Day 11: Oudtshoorn to Cape Agulhas (+-

350 km)

Highlights: Route 62, Cape Agulhas

After an early breakfast we make our way to the

start of Route 62. The road winds through the

Swartberg Mountains and beautiful foothills in

their valleys.We make our way down to Cape

Agulhas- the Southernmost tip of Africa at 34° S




and 20° . Here the ice cold waters of the Atlantic

ocean meet the warm Indian ocean, creating a

turbulent mixture of untamed beauty. There is

always a party at Cape Agulhas, as we celebrate

reaching the most southern point of Africa- there

are great photo opportunities at the Southern

most tip!

Day 12: Cape Agulhas- Cape Winelands (+-300km) Highlights: Ride the Cape Winelands,

Hermanus, Bettys Bay

Today we make our way to Cape Winelands. En-

Route we will stop in at Hermanus- the whale

watching capital of South Africa and also at Bettys

Bay where we will get up close to penguins living

on the beach. The Cape Winelands is a beautiful

landscape of vineyards, mountains and fruit

farms. The riding is also world class with some

exciting mountain passes. Tonight, we will sleep

in the heart of the winelands and enjoy some

local wine tasting.

Day 13: Cape Winelands- Cape Point-

Cape Town (+-180km)

Highlights: Cape Point, Chapmans Peak, Simons

Town, Coastal Roads, Signal Hill

Today we make our way to Cape Town, South

Africa’s Mother City. Today is the highlight of the

trip as there are beautiful coastal views with

twisting roads cut into the sea cliffs virtually all

the way. We start the day with a ride to the

“Simonstown”- a working navy base. After that

we make our way to Cape Point- the most South-

westerly point of Africa (with views of the Cape

Peninsula). Next up we ride the famous

Chapmans peak drive past False Bay and then

head over Signal hill into Cape Town, where we

celebrate the end of an amazing tour at one of

Cape Town’s best restaurants. What a ride!

Day 14: End of tour (+- 0-50 km)

Sadly, your tour of South Africa has come to an

end. We guarantee that you will take home loads

of awesome photographs and fond memories of

South Africa the warm people you have met.
