DART System– Wireless machinery monitoring system

As part of our strive to develop world class advanced

technology products, John Crane have developeda battery powered intrinsically safe wirelessmachinery monitoring system. Specifically designedfor condition monitoring of rotating machinery inhazardous areas (Atex Zone 1 certification).

The system is designed to be easily installed andvirtually maintenance free and has the ability toprovide data for 3rd party systems (with additionalconfiguration). Importantly the D1CM5 can beconfigured to turn off when necessary (radio silenceduring drilling operations). Overview

D1CM5 Sensor NodeThe D1CM5 sensor node is a powerful data acquisition, processingwireless communication system. The sensor node is a batterypowered device and has significant onboard signal processingcapability which takes place ‘on skid’.

Multiple Sensor Node units can transmit data back to oneGateway unit and several Gateway units can be connected toone Field Server PC using a multi drop RS485 serial connection.In addition to this the Sensor Nodes and Gateways can act aswireless routers to allow ‘multi-hop’ transmission of wirelessdata over larger distances than would otherwise be possible.

D1CM5 GatewayPower and half duplex RS485 serial communication is connectedto the GW via a multi-core cable which enters the GW enclosureby the cable gland at the bottom of the enclosure. The enclosureand mounting bracket is identical to that of the sensor node inevery respect except that there is only one cable gland in theGW enclosure. In a hazardous area instillation the gateway unitpower and communications must pass through suitably chosenprotection devices such as Zenner barriers or galvanic isolatorsfrom the safe area. The GW serial connection can be connectedto a serial device server on a TCP/IP network or direct to theField Server PC running JCAMS CBM360 FS software.

CBM360 Field Server SoftwareThe wireless gateway is connected to a PC server or serial deviceserver via RS485. JCAMS CBM360 Field server software allowsconfiguration of the sensor nodes and stores the measured datareturned from the nodes. Configuration, scheduling and measureddata is stored in an SQL database for remote access via TCP/IP.CBM360 field server allows basic analysis of the stored data bygraphing tools and is the entry point into the CBM360 softwaresuite for more advanced analysis, decision making support andmaintenance management.
