- THE BOISE METROPOLITAN AREA -The area consists of five counties in southwestern Idaho, anchored by the cities of Boise and Nampa. It is the state’s largest metropolitan area and includes Idaho’s three largest cities - Boise, Nampa, and Meridian. Nearly 40 percent of Idaho’s total population lives in the area. The metro area is home to 660,465 people (EMSI Estimate 2014) and a workforce of 330,000 within a 45-minute draw of Boise. The metro area is currently the third largest in the Pacific Northwest after Seattle and Portland.
