    Staff ReportsA womans wedding day

is one of the most importantdays of her life. Along withthe bliss and excitement

comes stress and in manycases, overwhelming pres-sure to achieve perfection. While bridesmaids, friendsand family can help take aload off the brides shoulders, hiring a wedding planner canmake the task even lighter.

Julia Etzkorn, owner ofPlan on Jules Special EventPlanning & Rental in Lima, says the amount of workshe takes on depends on the

brides needs.I do as little or as much asthe client wants, from start tonish, Etzkorn said. If they

just want the initial consul-tation, or to swap ideas andget feedback we can do that.I can rent things for them orhelp with the decorating, setup and tear down what-

ever they want me to do.Sometimes brides have a

lot of ideas, but dont reallyknow what to do with them.

Every bride has differenttastes; some are more cre-ative than others. One maywant a Halloween weddingand one may want a moretraditional theme. Thats whyI enjoy doing this so much,

just meeting all the differentkinds of people.

    When it comes to plan-

ning a wedding, focus oftenlands on bigger details. Etz-korn says its the small, per-sonal details that make anevent unique and memorable.

I enjoy the small details.I love putting more thoughtinto things like the table lin-ens or some nice napkinswith unique napkin rings, she said. If you pay attentionto things like that, you donthave to put as much on thewalls or ceiling and it givesit a personal touch. Spendingmore time on the little thingsmakes it so you dont have toworry as much about the big

    things.

I really try to nd uniquethings for clients that youmay not nd around here, she said. I have several ven-dors I use nationwide andI do a lot of business othersin Ohio. Brides are trying tond unique things, like fa-vors for the guests. I try topersonalize every event.

As a special event planner,Etzkorn is ideally placed todiscern the changing trendsin the wedding circuit.

Navy is a big color trendright now. Most weddingsIve seen lately, navy seemsto be the color, she said.Paper lanterns are big now, too, as are the ower ballsyou hang from the ceiling.Another trend is uplight-ing. You can completelychange the look of a room

    with lighting. It seems like

there are more and more falland winter weddings now.It seems like Im more busy

in the summer, so thats stillwedding season for me but Idont think theres really a setseason anymore. It reallydepends on the couple.

In addition to weddings,Etzkorn has planned every-thing from graduations andbirthdays to anniversary par-ties. Etzkorn has yet to planany destination weddings butsays she is up to the task.

No destinations yet, butIm open to them. I will drive

wherever you want me to,she said. Recently, I planneda 50th anniversary celebra-tion for my parents. They re-newed their vows on a beachin South Carolina.

Etzkorn has been in busi-ness for three years but shebegan helping out with wed-dings and event planninglong before that.

Ive always done it as afavor for friends and family

but its been three years forthe actual business, she said. The rst wedding I plannedofcially was particularlyspecial for me because it wasfor my nephew, who is reallylike a baby brother to me.

Etzkorn, originally fromDelphos, runs Plan on Julesout of her home in Lima, whereshe lives with her husbandNick and their two children,Isabella and Mason. Plan onJules contact information can

(BPT) - It may come as a surprise

to young engaged couples, but the ex-citement of the wedding and honey-moon doesnt end when its all over.In fact, after the honeymoon, its timeto roll up your sleeves and plan the bigmove - the joining of two households.

Its a herculean task finding theperfect location with great schools, affordable taxes and good neighbors. But once youve signed on the dottedline for the home where you will be-gin your life as a couple - and maybealso raise your family when the timearrives - youre ready to plan your bigmove.

Many newlyweds face the chore ofmerging furniture, kitchen equipmentand closet space from two households. To start your moving processoff on the right foot, consider eliminating duplicate items and having agarage sale, or donating items, before beginning the packing process. Its a great chance to upgrade household furnishings - especially if youreceived something new as a wedding gift.

Then determine what size moving truck youll need. A good ruleis to plan for 150 cubic feet of space for every fully furnished room. Many young couples moving from a small apartment or condo into alarger first home will find a 12- or 16-foot Penske rental truck morethan adequate. Plan to reserve your truck at least two weeks in advance.Penske Truck Rental offers rental discounts for AAA members to helpyoung couples with savings.

For help in making moving day go smoothly, use these tips fromPenske. Theyve been in the do-it-yourself moving business for morethan 40 years:

    * Still unpacking your wedding gifts? - If space isnt a concern, keep those wedding gifts in their original boxes, because the storepackaging will help protect the items. But if space is tight in the rentaltruck, throw away the store packaging and carefully repack in yourmoving boxes - with plenty of padding to protect your new gifts.

    * Start early and group items together - Get good, sturdy boxes ofvarious sizes, and then fill them with items of similar use, size or de-sign. Some traditional ways to group items are by item type (i.e. photoframes) or by contents of a room. Label each box with the room name, and the contents. Make sure you have plenty of packing bubbles ortowels and cloths on hand to keep breakable items from being damagedin the move.

    * Save your muscles - Ask friends to help you with carrying boxes. If something is heavy, enlist some help to prevent injury or strain onyour muscles.

    * Loading the truck - Load the largest items (i.e. bed, couch, dress-er) into the truck first to ensure they will fit, and then start loading theheaviest boxes on the bottom and lighter boxes on top. Having eachbox labeled with contents will help prevent you and your friends frompacking heavy books on top of your new fine china wedding gifts. Pen-ske features an online Truck Wizard application to assist.

When you cross the threshold of your new home the first time asa married couple, youll be surrounded by the excitement and energyof so many adventures to come in your future. Carefully unpack yourmoving truck, cherishing the memories of your personal belongingsas you meld them to fit into your new home and life with your new

    spouse.

He has nally proposed? Then your top priority is to do

a bit of bragging and tell every-one the good news! Once yourinitial excitement has calmeddown a touch, though, youllhave to take time to do someserious thinking. There are somany details to plan, a budgetto draw up, and deadlines to bemet: it seems so overwhelming. If you are nding it hard to getsome traction and launch yourwedding planning, here are tentips to give you some directionand help you get moving.

    1. Establish your budget perguest. In fact, this is the per-fect time to draw up yourguest list.

    2. Order your invitations, beingcareful to include your names, the date, time, and place ofthe wedding and reception, as

well as the date by which youneed to receive replies. Being

clear about this will helpyou save a lot of precioustime and money. Be sure toinclude stamped, addressedenvelopes if you can.

    3. The reception hall is often oneof the biggest expenses, so besure to reserve one as quicklyas possible. If you want tokeep expenses down, thinkabout holding the reception ata family home or in a garden.

    4. Creating a good atmosphereis just as important as choos-

ing a caterer, although youdont want to skimp on foodeither. To cut costs, considerserving fewer courses, witha focus on excellent qualityinstead of quantity.

Many brides-to-be look forward to the day when they visit a bridalsalon and are able to try on gowns for the first time. There are certain tipsthat can make the day go much more smoothly and potentially reduce theamount of time it may take to find the perfect gown.* Wear a supportive, well constructed strapless bra or corset in your correct

size. If you will be wearing a petticoat, also have the right size available.* Go without face makeup when trying on gowns so they remain clean.* Try to wear your hair similar to the style you have in mind for your

wedding.* Note that the size of the wedding gown you will wear is typically one totwo sizes larger than your day-to-day clothes. Proper measurements canbe matched to designers size charts.

    * Its best to limit the number of people with whom you shop to 1 or 2trusted friends or family members. An entourage can be confusing.

    * Its always better to order a slightly larger gown and leave room foralterations if you are between sizes. (MS)

final detail to make saying Ido irresistible.-Mark decided to ask his

friend Travis, a store managerat Things Remembered in Clo-vis, California for ideas. Marktold Travis about his beachproposal. As soon as he men-tioned his girlfriends love ofwine, Travis suggested, Bringin a bottle of her favorite vin-

When she says yes, fill itwith sand from the beach as akeepsake.

As details for the upcom-ing nuptials were set, Markand Stacy added an engravedwine charm displaying theirwedding date. And when theday finally arrived, the couplewas able to use the very specialbottle to adorn their head table.

(BPT) - Im so lucky Im marrying mybest friend, is a phrase you often hear inwedding toasts. Now that youve found theperson you want to spend the rest of your lifewith, make sure you protect each other byconsidering the bigger financial picture.

According to Wedding Paper Divas, 47percent of engaged couples spend betweenone and nine hours per week planning theirweddings, but its unlikely that much of thattime is spent planning for life after the bigday.

Getting married is the perfect time to take a fresh look atyour entire financial picture, including your insurance needs, says Doug Smith, senior vice president of the Personal Lines di-vision at Erie Insurance. Its much better to plan before the wed-

ding so there are no surprises later. Here are five key insurance questions to discuss with your

spouse-to-be before taking a walk down the aisle:Wheres my bling?Chances are you spent a lot of time and money picking out

rings youll love and wear every day. But according to asecure-life.com, one in 36 homes in the United States will be brokeninto this year, so its important to make sure you have the rightinsurance to cover your rings if theyre lost or stolen.

Your strategy: Have your rings appraised to establish theirvalue. Keep your store receipts and take a picture of the rings.Having pictures and documentation helps speed up the claimsprocess if you have to file a claim. Also, keep your rings in a safedeposit box when youre not wearing them.

Baby, can you drive my car?Once youre married, your spouse generally will be covered

on your auto insurance policy and vice versa. This could meanopportunities for savings.

Your strategy: Once you become a two-car home, you maybe eligible for a multi-car discount. You should also considerbundling your car insurance with your homeowners and/or lifeinsurance which can result in even more savings. Additionally, some insurance companies offer a lower rate for married couples,so talk to your insurance agent to find out if this applies to yourpolicy.

Have you protected the things that make your house ahome?

Are you planning to move into a newhome after the honeymoon? Whether or notyour living situation changes, make sureyour home and belongings are protected.

Your strategy: Consider what new pieceswill be added to your abode. If you purchasenew furniture, art pieces or any other newbelongings, its a good idea to make surethose items are covered in case of theft, fire,or natural disaster.

Youll also want to make sure your homeinsurance covers 100 percent of the cost to rebuild your homeif needed. Do your research, says Smith. Some insurancecompanies cap their coverage at a certain amount. That meansyou could find yourself substantially underinsured, even if youthought you were paying for so-called replacement cost insur-

ance. What do you need to do before plunging into a remodeling

project?Even if youre not purchasing a new home, two people in a

house means you need more space, so you may be adding onto your existing home. This can mean workers doing potentiallydangerous jobs in the home.

Your strategy: When you hire a contractor, request a certificateof insurance to confirm their liability and workers compensationcoverages. Review the certificate and your homeowners policy.

    10 June 2013 Wedding Guide

(BPT) - New brides aretransforming something oldinto something new. Thatsaccording to the latest bridal

tabletop trends. While in recent years brides

have been registering for ca-sual dinnerware, lately indus-try experts are seeing bridesreturning to fine china. Salesindicate theyre opting for por-celain and bone china, whichare more durable than stone-ware because these mediumsare less likely to chip.

White patterns continue tobe strong bridal sellers, rang-ing in shades from pure white

to ecru, with gold trim makinga resurgence among millennialbrides.

But in an emerging trend, observers are finding vintageis vogue.

Brides are embracing heir-loom patterns for a number ofreasons, says Keith Winkler, product marketing managerat Replacements, Ltd. First

of all, theres a strong, emo-tional connection to those in-herited pieces because it tiesthem to family and tradition.

At the same time, vintage ishuge throughout the fashionindustry, and thats impact-ing dinnerware trends. Bridesare hanging onto Grandmaschina, but theyre also lookingto give family treasures a morecontemporary spin.

John Griffith oversees thevisual merchandising team atReplacements, known as theworlds largest retailer of oldand new china, crystal, sil-ver and collectibles. He often

hears from brides needing helptransforming family treasures. It doesnt matter whether

inherited dinnerware is de-cades old, patterns are timelessthrough the magic of mixingand matching, says Griffith.I suggest using your heirloompattern as a starting point, then mixing in various colors, shapes and even other medi-

ums such as glass or acrylics.By creating a sort of retroremix, you can dress up yoursentimental favorite for formalentertaining, or just as easilydress down your tableware fora casual evening with friends.

For example, Griffith saysmixing in square salad plateswith round shaped dinnerwarecreates art deco flair. Mix-ing different colored plates orglass can open up an entire

new color palette.Hes adamant; dont be

afraid to be bold and try some-thing new.

I recently had a customercome in with an heirloomgoblet she wanted to match,he says. We didnt have anypieces in her pattern, so I in-stead zeroed in on a design el-ement with the goblet, in thiscase the stem style on the glass.

I added in four additional crys-tal patterns, all with a similarstem design. By matching thatparticular design element, wecreated a really elegant, con-temporary look.

Griffith leads design semi-nars on creating trendy tablesat the companys retail store. Many of his insights appearon Replacements YouTubechannel and Facebookpage atwww.facebook.com/Replace-

    ments.One challenge brides of-

ten encounter with heirloompieces lies in the fact familymembers sometimes forget thename of the pattern. Griffithsuggests taking advantage ofReplacements free patternidentification service. Addi-tional information is availableon the companys website,www.replacements.com.

ily members could struggle without the right level of protection.Your strategy: Make sure your spouse is protected if one in-

come is lost. Universal life insurance provides insurance for yourentire life and builds a cash value. Term life insurance providesaffordable coverage for a set number of years. Some websites, including erieinsurance.com, offer online calculators to help youdetermine how much insurance you need. As you begin to builda nest egg, you have more assets to protect. A personal umbrellapolicy provides extra protection for you and your family againstlawsuits arising from personal injury or property damage claims.

While its important to plan for rain on your wedding day andto make sure everyone has a place card, its even more importantto plan for what comes after the moment you say I do. Makingthe proper insurance and financial arrangements will be a load

off your mind if something should arise.

    Knot (Continued from page 7)

Trend (Continued from page 8)the shoes make their feet hurt,Holmes says. But shoes thathurt your feet can cause long-term problems, and make ex-isting ones even worse. Sorefeet can put a damper on your

wedding, reception and evenhoneymoon. The APMA offers some

advice for choosing the mostcomfortable options in somepopular wedding styles:

Pumps - A classic weddingshoe, bridal pumps come in awide variety of styles, colorsand heights. When choosinga pump, be aware that pointyshoes place pressure on thetoes and can aggravate prob-lems like hammertoes and bun-ions. Choose pumps with deep,

wide toe boxes that give youplenty of room to wiggle yourtoes. Keep in mind lower heelsare better, especially if youllbe in your wedding shoes forseveral hours.

Ballet flats - Flirty, feminineand fun, ballet flats can feelmore comfortable than heels. But very flat shoes can actuallybe harmful to your arch andheel. Opt for a flat that has abit of a heel, a thicker sole, andplenty of cushioning and sup-

port. Avoid flats that bend inhalf or easily twist.Kitten heels - When it

comes to good looks and foot-friendly design, kitten heels arethe cats meow. Typically lowerthan one inch, kitten heels add

a touch of height without plac-ing undue pressure on the ballof the foot that higher heels cancause. They also tend to be abit wider than the average heel, making them more stable and

comfortable.Platforms and wedges -Towering platforms and wedg-es provide height, style andendless options. But wearingthese higher styles requiresbrides to take extra caution.Platforms and wedges maycompromise your balance andstability, and very high shoescan lead to ankle rolls andfalls. Look for lower platformsand wedges that feature secureankle straps. Cork bottomsprovide some shock absorption

and traction.Peep toes - Popular among

brides who want to show offtheir pretty pedicures, peeptoes range from towering heelsto functional flats. Regardlessof heel height, peep toes maycause your toes to slip forwardor overlap, or may even pushnail edges into the skin to forman ingrown toenail. Avoid peeptoes that are too tight, and besure they are free of seams nearthe toe area, as seams place

further pressure on toes.Sling backs - Showing aflirty flash of heel, sling backsare dynamic and sexy - perfectfor walking down the aisle andkicking up your heels during thereception. Look for a sling back

with a lower heel that will bemore comfortable for extendedwearing. Straps should be snugbut not too tight to avoid chaf-ing on the back of the heel. Tooloose straps may cause the shoe

to slip off your foot, so a properstrap fit is important.Whatever style you choose,

some advice is universal:* Very high heels place pres-

sure on your feet, shifting yourentire body weight. If you planto wear your heels throughoutthe entire ceremony and re-ception - likely more than twohours - consider choosing aheel of no more than two inch-es. Or, save the very high heelsfor the ceremony and switch toa lower, more comfortable heel

for afterward.* Brightly colored or pat-

terned wedding shoes are invogue now, and while colordoesnt affect comfort thematerial might. Materials thatprovide stability and stretchmay be better for your feet.

Avoid plastic, vinyl and othermaterials that dont allow feetto breathe.

    * Shoes should have a flexi-ble sole that allows toes to bendnaturally when you walk and a

rigid, cushioned heel counterto keep the foot in place insidethe shoe.

    * Inserts are a great way tohelp cushion heels, arches andthe balls of your feet. Its easy tofind inserts that work with virtu-ally any style of wedding shoe.

    * When shopping for yourwedding shoes, keep in mindthat - like any shoe - theyshould be comfortable imme-diately. Never buy uncomfort-able shoes thinking that youllbreak them in. And shop for

your bridal shoes at the endof the day. Not only do mostweddings take place later inthe day, your feet swell to theirlargest in the evening. Buy-ing your wedding shoes at thattime of day will ensure you getthe best fit.

Want to know some of thetop bridal trends of 2013?From color to cake, brides to-day are thinking outside thebox. Here are some top trendsto consider:

Color: When it comes tocolors theres no need to becoy - top trends of 2013 arebright and bold. From rubyreds, rich blues, vivid violetsand sunshine yellows, splash-

es of color liven up your decorand create a memorable atmo-sphere. Its easy to seamlesslyincorporate a fun color withoutgoing over the top when yourent - consider renting run-ners, centerpieces and evenstemware in the color of yourchoice.

Dessert: While traditionalbrides may prefer a multilay-ered wedding cake, many oth-ers are taking a fun approachto desserts. Do you and your

    honey love apple pie? Place

homemade apple pies on eachtable. Have your first date atan ice cream parlor? Set up anice cream bar with a varietyof toppings for guests to cre-ate their own sundae. You canrent all the extras to create anauthentic ice cream shop at-mosphere.

Go virtual: Its unlikelythat every guest you invitewill be able to attend, so nowtechnology is bringing peo-ple closer together no matterwhere they reside. Coupleswith guests who live far awayor family who arent able toattend are now sharing theirspecial day by live-streamingthe ceremony and reception.Guests can then attend thewedding virtually.

Bouquets: Flowers arebeautiful, but creative bridesare taking a fresh look at tra-ditional bouquets. Adorn yourblooms with gems or feathersfor a stunning accent as you

walk down the aisle. Or, skipflowers altogether and cre-ate a family heirloom - gathervintage brooches from friendsand family and make a spar-kling jewelry bouquet withsupplies from your local craftstore.

Whatever trends you decideto incorporate into your bigday, renting your dream wed-ding supplies rather than buy-ing is a wise decision. Youllget the latest trends at an af-

    fordable price.

    Money and marriage:

Tips to achieve financial happiness(BPT) - Fights over finances are a com-

monly known cause of stress and divorce, anda new survey indicates that while the averagecouple fights over money five times a year,

they discuss finances reasonably fewer thantwo times a month. Every couple knows thereare some topics you just dont bring up - hismothers dreadful cooking, your uncles badmanners. Money, however, should never beamong those subjects you dont discuss - es-pecially if youre planning your wedding.

In todays economy, its rare that a coupleenters matrimony debt-free, notes CarrieBraxdale, managing director of investor ser-vices for TD Ameritrade, Inc. (TD Ameri-trade), a broker-dealer subsidiary of TDAmeritrade Holding Corporation. Yet manynewly engaged couples may be as hesitant - oreven more so - to discuss finances as couples

who have been together for years. They canget a jump-start on a lifetime of wedded bliss, however, if they take time to talk frankly aboutfinances before they walk down the aisle.

The survey conducted by TD AmeritradeHolding Corporation and LearnVest, foundthat couples today face three top concernswhen it comes to their finances: Not havingenough money to retire (27 percent), not hav-ing enough money to live as they wish (25percent), and not having enough money to

even live comfortably (24 percent).Trust over money also emerged as a big

issue. Forty percent of respondents do notcompletely trust their partner to manage their

combined finances. Just over one in five (21percent) admit they sometimes hide theirspending from their partner. Thirty-eight per-cent say they are either unaware or only par-tially aware of their mates debts. Perhaps theyfeel that ignorance is bliss.

Braxdale offers some advice to coupleslooking to take control of their finances andlearn to talk effectively about money:

    * Be open about debt before you say Ido. Keeping secrets about how much youeach owe on student loans, credit cards orauto loans is no way to start off a marriage. While talking about money might not be themost romantic conversation you ever have

with your intended, its one of the most im-portant.

    * Check your credit scores. Youll bothkeep your own score after youre married, butpurchases you make as a couple afterward -like a house or car - can be affected by bothyour scores. Check your scores at least once ayear; doing so can help you catch and correcterrors or fraud, and help you better manageyour credit and overall finances.

    * More people are marrying later in life, so

one or both partners may enter the union witha 401(k), IRA or other investment accounts. Its important to discuss long-term retirementsavings goals, and understand how you both

plan to manage these accounts. Websites likeTD Ameritrades Life 2.0 and RetirementPlanning can help by offering access to freeresources like retirement calculators and port-folio planners. Youll also find information onmaking financial decisions that can help youmeet your financial goals, whether youre juststarting out in your life together, growing yourfamily or approaching your retirement years.

    * Get to know each others saving andspending habits. One partner may be frugaland the other more of a spender, but argu-ments dont have to be inevitable. Youll needto discuss your habits and work together tofind spending and saving solutions that work

best for both of you, and for your shared fi-nancial goals.

    * Build a budget that incorporates savingsgoals, income and expenses. Discuss whethercombined or separate bank accounts make themost sense for you, and be sure your financialgoals are in sync.

Open discussions about money, credit, retirement savings and financial health are animportant step toward a healthy relationship,Braxdale says.
