Those long, lazy days of sum-mer I envisioned have turned out to be a little less idle than I had anticipated. But in the spirit of being on vacation, I’d like to fo-cus on what I’ve loved about this summer.

Along with the good-byes that saddened us as individuals and as a community, we’ve not only delighted in the birth of grand-children and great-grandchildren, but also celebrated a marriage. There’s a new home settling in at 5202 Las Palmas Norte and both street-sealing and sidewalk re-pairs are scheduled. The lakes are being treated and the golf courses refurbished. We had the only 4th of July parade led in part by an un-expected (and undecorated) gar-bage truck. We’ve had Courtyard parties and dances and barbecues and ice cream socials. We have two new Board members-- Gail

Ventura and Mary White—so the Board is at full strength.

We’ve also been hot and wet. Very wet. The no-umbrella-can-keep-me-dry-in-this-downpour kind of wet. Still, the grass is green, the plants are flourishing, and the Pub has a roof over it.

Things go wrong, of course. But the balance sheet is definitely positive. So let me use this mo-ment to say thank you to a few of the many people who have contributed to summer’s plea-sure: to Linda and Erv Storma for coordinating the parade; to Do-ris Meyer and all the editors and delivery volunteers for the Tower; to Hometown’s maintenance and landscaping crews for making ev-erything look so cared-for; to Jim Marlowe and Julie Rath for the barbecue and the loan of the beau-tiful, new, fire-engine red golf cart for the parade; to all of the HOA

Board members who keep things running without glory or com-plaint; to everyone who gets up at an unearthly hour to prepare for the Tuesday Morning Coffees; to Nick Matarrese for the Courtyard parties; to Kevin and Louise Wil-cox, who are the very best friends anyone could have; and, most of all, to all the people here who ask the questions, find the answers, look after one another, and make this group of streets a community. The list could go on forever, but you get the idea.

My gratitude to the people who make life here special is bound-less because the people who live and love and work and give with-in Del Tura are a rare breed. This alone is enough to make me feel fortunate to be among them.

DEL TURA Stop Senior Hunger Now! Senior Friendship Centers,

Harry Chapin Food Bank and the United Way of Lee, Hendry & Glades Counties have formed a coalition. Their Mission is to Stop Senior Hunger in SW Florida by volunteering and working togeth-er with local businesses, neigh-borhood groups and other people like you.

I read about this in my church newsletter recently. The organiza-tion is trying to educate the public about some frightening statistics the Senior Friendship Centers has provided .

• 1 in 7 seniors do not have enough nutritious food to eat.

• Since 2007 there has been a 34% increase in senior hunger.

• Florida is one of the top 10 states with the highest rate of se-

nior hunger.• Frail elders, slow moving

individuals with muscle weak-ness, exhaustion and low physical activity are at the highest risk of malnutrition.

• Low-income, minorities and those living alone between the ages of 50-64 comprise the larg-est group who are malnourished.

What is different about senior hunger? Ongoing hunger in a se-nior citizen can lead to:

• Poor health and new compli-cations connected to chronic ill-nesses such as diabetes, COPD, heart disease etc.

• Hospital stays caused by falls and / or disorientation due to star-vation and dehydration leading to fractures .

• The need to enter an assisted

living or nursing home situation because they can no longer live alone in their own home.

• Potential loss of life.More and more seniors go

hungry each day in SW Florida. They are hidden in plain sight, in high-rise buildings, gated com-munities and in their homes, in isolation. Del Tura’s food bank goes to the needy in the Sun Coast community where there is also a great need. I would like to start a Senior Friendship Food Bag pro-gram here in Del Tura. If Rates Rise, What Should You Do with Bonds?

Interest rates are at historic lows. But they will rise eventually. If you invest in fixed-income vehicles, such as bonds, what might higher rates mean for you?

As is almost always the case in the investment world, there’s no simple answer. First, it’s important to distinguish between short-term and long-term inter-est rates. The Federal Reserve is determined to keep short-term rates low until unemployment improves, but, in the meantime, longer-term rates may well rise.

Depending on your situation, a rise in long-term rates can present both opportunity and concern. The opportunity: Rising rates can mean greater income if you invest in newly issued bonds. The concern: If you already own longer-term bonds, and rates rise, the value of your bonds will fall. That’s because other investors won’t want to pay full price for your bonds when they can get new ones at higher rates.

Even if the value of your long-term bonds falls, isn’t it worthwhile to hold on to them? After all, as long as your bond doesn’t default — and if the bond is considered “investment grade,” a default is unlikely — you will get a steady source of income and you’ll receive the full value of your bond back at maturity. Aren’t these valuable benefits?

They are indeed — but they may be more relevant for short-term bonds. Longer-term bonds — those of 10-year duration or longer — are more subject to inflation risk than shorter-term bonds. Of course, we’ve experienced low inflation for a number of years, but, over time, even mild inflation can add up. When this happens, and you own a long-term bond whose rate doesn’t change, you could face a potential loss of purchasing power. One of the reasons that long-term bonds pay higher interest rates than short-term bonds is because the issuers of longer-term instruments are rewarding you for taking on this additional inflation risk.

Consequently, simply holding on to long-term bonds — especially very long-term ones, such as those that mature in 30 years — may not be the best strategy. If you review your fixed-income holdings and find that they skew strongly toward longer-term bonds, you may want to consider reducing your exposure in this area. If you did sell some of these bonds, you could use the proceeds to help build a “bond ladder” — which may be one of the best ways to invest in bonds.

To create this ladder, you need to invest in bonds of varying maturities. When market rates are low, you’ll still have your longer-term bonds earning higher interest rates, thereby paying you more income. And when market rates rise, you can reinvest your maturing short-term bonds at the higher rates. You must evaluate whether the bonds held within the bond ladder are consistent with your investment objectives, risk tolerance and financial circumstances.

If you own bonds, you do need to be aware of where interest rates are — and where they may be headed. Nonetheless, as we have seen, you don’t have to be at the mercy of rate movements. By keeping yourself informed and choosing the right strategies, you can benefit from owning bonds and other fixed-income vehicles in all interest-rate environments.

Before investing in bonds, you should understand the risks involved, including credit risk and market risk. Bond investments are subject to interest rate risk such that when interest rates rise, the prices of bonds can decrease, and the investor can lose principal value if the investment is sold prior to maturity.

Have you had an opportu-nity to personally meet and talk to our new Hometown America Community Manager, JIM MAR-LOW? If not, here is a brief pa-per interview of the man who sees himself as an important liaison between Del Tura residents and the owners of our community.

Friendly, enthusiastic and co-operative are traits that can best describe the individual who was appointed by Hometown last April to head the management team at Del Tura. Jim was born in Michigan but considers himself a Florida native as he has lived in Punta Gorda for the past thirty years. He earned a B.S. degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida.

Jim got his career start by be-coming a Sales Director for Inter-national Sailing Supplies. This was a natural position for him as he has been around boats all his life. Later Jim spent eight years as an announcer and DJ for vari-ous radio stations but switched careers to work for the American Land Lease Company running their golf courses. Eventually he became a community manager, then sales manager and finally a regional manager for them. The company was finally sold, howev-er, and with their change of man-agement, Jim was out of a job. He then went on to begin a consulting firm for HOAs and condo associa-tions. He also became a Florida licensed Community Association Manager (CAM). It is no wonder that Hometown America heard of his experience and determination and tapped him to come to work for them as our new manager.

Jim still lives on Charlotte Harbor in Punta Gorda with Kit-ty, his wife of twenty years, and their fifteen year-old son and thir-teen-year-old daughter. He has played golf since boyhood and has helped coach the golf team at Charlotte High School. He is also a member of the Chain Gang for

their varsity football team. Fish-ing from one of his three boats and playing tennis fill up what-ever spare time he can find.

Jim was very excited about coming to Del Tura to work, as he had known about our community for a long time beginning with the segment shown on TV a few years ago when we were featured as a premier retirement community in the southeast. He was aware that we had beautiful grounds and also that the job would provide a challenge to him even though he had had thirteen years’ experience with the American Land Lease Company and had been a regional manager.

Our new manager enjoys work-ing with the members of our HOA Board and views the relationship as one of working for the good of the common goal. He feels he has been on both sides of the table in this association and thus is able to view the problems objectively. He is also willing to talk to any

residents who have problems re-garding their property. If it is at all possible, he would appreci-ate their making an appointment to see him so he can schedule an appropriate amount of time for them. It would also be very help-ful if he could have something in writing beforehand so he can check any background informa-tion needed on their behalf.

Jim is excited about the fu-ture of Del Tura. Sale prices of existing homes are going up and one new home is being installed. He emphasizes that we are all partners working together here. Everyone has a stake in the com-munity. Hometown has an invest-ment to protect and the residents also have an investment they want to protect. By working together these partnership investments are enhanced. If you happen to run into Jim while you’re in the Hometown Office, please intro-duce yourself to him. It will be a mutually rewarding experience.

Meet Our New ManagerDEL TURA

First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the warm welcome and kind wishes since I have come aboard as Del Tura’s Community manager. Del Tura is Florida’s premier manufactured home com-munity and I am very pleased and proud to be part this great com-munity.

As I ride through the communi-ty and speak to the residents, I see and hear a great deal of pride in ownership both in Del Tura itself and their homes. This is evident by the amount of work I see be-ing done. I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t mention that I want you to protect yourself and your neighbors by using Licensed and Insured Contractors and Vendors. The HOA has a vendor list for you to review if you need some work done.

Now let’s talk about the fun stuff! On August 16 we would like to invite everyone to a Drive-In movie....remember those? We will be setting up an outdoor movie screen for you to enjoy a movie under the stars in the comfort of your lawn chair or golf cart. Look for flyers at the clubhouse and throughout the community for more details.

In the coming months you will

see some projects getting started such as the Fitness Room expan-sion, Sidewalk Repairs, Road Work and a new Basketball hoop just to name a few. Please pardon our dust as we complete these and other projects. As the old saying goes; “you can’t make an omelet without breaking some eggs”. So I want to thank you in advance for your patience.

Finally, it’s that time of year again in Florida where we have to keep an eye on severe weather. I hope you were able to attend our Hurricane seminar we sponsored in June. If not, please make sure you have a plan in the event of a storm. I would also like to remind everyone that the Clubhouse and Recreation Rooms are NOT hur-ricane shelters so please do not make them part of your plan as they will be locked.

Once again I would like to thank everyone for everything and I look forward to being part of YOUR community. My ultimate goal is to be your partner in pro-tecting YOUR and OUR invest-ment in the community as well as the betterment of it.

No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars

GREASE: 13x9-inch baking pan

BEAT: 1 1/4 cups peanut butter and butter in large mixing bowl until creamy.Gradually beat in 1 cup powdered sugar. With hands or wooden spoon, work in remaining powdered sugar, graham cracker crumbs and 1/2 cup morsels. Press evenly into prepared pan. smooth top with a spatula.

MELT: Remaining peanut butter and remaining morsels in medium, heavy -duty saucepan over lowest possible heat, stirring constantly, until smooth. Spread over the graham cracker crust in pan. Refrigerate at least one hour or until chocolate is firm; cut into bars. Store in refrigerator.

In this day and age when iden-tity theft and all sorts of scams are possible due to the new “elec-tronic world” we live in, the fol-lowing suggestions make a lot of sense.

Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put Photo ID required.

When you are writing checks to pay on your credit accounts, do not put the complete card number in the “for” line on the check. En-ter only the last four numbers of the account number. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone handling the check as it passes through the processing channels won’t have access to it.

Photocopy both sides of all the documents you carry in your wallet such as credit cards, driver license, Medicare card etc. Place the photocopy in a safe place at home so if your wallet is lost or

stolen you have all the numbers and contact information you need to report the loss and cancel the cards. Cancel the cards immedi-ately and file a report on the loss of the wallet with the police.

In America, the second lead-ing health concern is dementia. Alzheimer type of dementia is the most common type.

Risk Factors:Age, most individuals are 65

years and older. The likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s disease doubles every five years after that age.

Family history is a factor. If you have a parent, brother or sister with Alzheimer’s, you are two to three times more likely to develop the disease. The risk in-creases if more than one family member has the disease.

Medical history also presents a factor. Incidents of vascular disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure are among these factors.

There is no cure for Alzheim-

er’s disease at this time and the goal is to slow the progression of the disease. Medication currently ordered by physicians helps to control the symptoms of depres-sion, confusion, anxiety, restless-ness and other behavioral symp-toms.

The warning signs of Alzheim-er’s are noted below. But, many times it is difficult to tell the dif-ference between normal aging and the first signs of Alzheimer’s.

The Alzheimer’s Association has developed a list of warning signs and urges you to contact your doctor for assistance if you or your loved one experiences one or more of the following signs.

Warning Signs:Memory loss that disrupts

daily life, like forgetting dates or

events, and relying on memory aides.

Challenges in planning or solv-ing problems, such as following a familiar recipe, keeping track and paying bills on time when they were doing this regularly.

Difficulty completing familiar tasks such as remembering the rules of a familiar game or driv-ing to a familiar location.

Confusion with time or place. They may have trouble under-standing something if it is not happening immediately. They may forget where they are or how they got there.

Trouble understanding visual images or difficulty with reading, judging distance or determining colors. Some people may think when they are passing a mirror someone else is in the room.

New problems with words in speaking or writing. Some may have trouble following a conver-sation or stop in the middle of a sentence and be unable to finish their idea, or they may just repeat their story over and over again. They may have trouble finding the right word to use or call things by the wrong name. Like calling a dog a cat.

Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps. An example may be they put their car keys in the refrigerator. This may cause them to think some-one stole their keys. This theme of loss and theft may be repeated.

Decreased or poor judgment in decision making. They may lose attention to keeping themselves clean, wear the same soiled cloth-ing over and over. In some cases

they may give away money to strangers with a “scheme” or pur-chase a large piano when they do not play the instrument.

Withdrawal from work or so-cial activities. They may have trouble keeping up with a famil-iar sports team or work project. You may see them withdraw and not attend church or regular social events they have always attended.

Changes in mood and person-ality. A person can become con-fused and suspicious especially as the day goes on, and as evening approaches. They can become de-pressed, fearful, or very anxious and be unable to tell you why they feel like this.

There are three special ladies I want to mention in this month's column. Two of them are mem-bers, Cathy Wallace, who has moved to Calusa Harbor, and Dot-tie Hurst, who has moved back home, and Betty Morris, a former member who recently passed, was also very special to us. The char-acteristics possessed by each of these special ladies include a great sense of humor, with an ability to create humor, often in relation to their own personal experiences. In other words, being able to laugh at yourself. Additionally, they each demonstrated their sense of humor by appreciating the humor created by others. We were blessed to count these ladies as friends. They leave us with fond memories and will forever remain in our hearts.

Get Your Walking Shoes On and Start to Feel In The PINK!!!! Hi to every one of our friends in Del Tura. Can we do it again? YES, WE CAN!!!

For the past two years, here at Del Tura, we have raised over $20,000.00 for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, in finding a cure for Breast Cancer.

We know it’s early, but please mark these dates in your calendar: September 24, 2013, we will show the raffle baskets at the Tuesday morning coffee; October 1, 8, and 15, we will sell tickets to the raffle of 30 plus lovely baskets, filled with all kinds of goodies; on Oc-tober 15, the tickets for the win-

ners will be drawn. Our second annual bowling tournament at the All Star Lanes will be on Saturday October 12. You don’t have to be a bowler. We had a GREAT time last year and it’ll be a blast this year too...Lots of prizes, baskets and fun!!

Then the MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER WALK will be at the Tanger Out-let Mall in South Fort Myers on Saturday October 19.. We all want a cure for all the cancers, but this is a way to participate and to raise money to help find the cure against Breast Cancer. I was sitting here one day in MayWondering what to do until Summer. I thought I could Reid or maybe just Wright,But sitting alone is a bummer.

Of course the 1st thing I thought of(Surprise) was having something to eat.I’ll start with a Heath or a Clark Bar,Or if it’s called Reese it’s a treat!

But one cannot live on just chocolate,So I made some Coffey to comfort me.Then I realized it was way, way too hot out,So I changed it to Lipton iced tea.

The pantry was Baer I had hardly a thing,Just Fig Newton’s, Graham crackers and Dates.I guess I’ll have to go shopping at Publix.So I headed out Del Tura’s gates.

The highway was bumper to bumper,An old Ford just cut off an Olds.I had to Dodge thru the traffic, a Pinto was stuck,And it took quite a while on the roads.

I gave up and headed to PerkinsThere are Signs right by Hancock Bridge. I’ve got to put food in my stomach,Before I can fill up the fridge.

NOTE: Once I’m done shopping I’ll head home,I’ll unpack and get in the shower.And before you know it I’ll be back with more namesIn the October Tower.

Lee County Library in North Ft. Myers

I was pleasantly surprised at the ease and convenience of using our local library located on old 41 (2001 N. Tamiami Trail, North Ft. Myers). You may join and re-ceive a library card by calling them at 239-533-4320. You can go online to register, reserve a book, and download e-books, music and movies. I had trouble with downloading e-books, so I spoke to the library assistant who gave me written in-structions. The staff at the library is very helpful. Most of the time, I reserve the book I want online. If it is not available at North Ft. Myers, they obtain it from an-other Lee County Library branch and they advise when it is available for pickup. I can then simply go into the library and go to the shelf with my initial and pick up the book. If I need more time to finish the book, I can just phone and get another month. Late fees are only 20 cents a day.

This novel was authored by a Del Tura resident. She has recaptured from the recesses of her mind the de-tails of a time when there was no need to lock your doors or look over your shoulder. The present day media with their focus on the bizarre and maca-bre, would find no fodder here. Young people wallowed in the wonders of nature that God so amply provides in New England.

The book’s read is like stepping back to the time of our forefathers, when life was simple, uncluttered, but so fulfilling. The reverence for the land is reflected with six generations, spanning one hundred seventy years, that enjoyed life on the same fam-ily farm. the bonding of family and friends made for endless fellowship at gatherings. Hostility was not in their

vocabulary.The Connecticut River Valley cra-

dles this quaint rural country town as it looks up to the mountains. Viola’s recall of the many down-home ac-tivities such as barn dances, hayrides and swimming holes provided by the mountain streams touch on but a few of the offerings in this nature’s play-ground. The beauty of the arena at-tracted many artists, among whom was the famed writer, J.D.Salinger. Viola remains friends with his daugh-ter, Peggy. This is Patricia Cornwall’s’ nineteenth novel about Dr. Kay Scarpetta, who is now Chief Medical Examiner of the Cam-bridge Forensic Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

She also has connections to the Department of Defense, and is now married to Benton, an FBI criminal intelligence agent.

She is on a quest to find out what happened to her former employee, Deputy Chief Jack Fielding, who was murdered six months before. She is also a suspect in the murder, but has not been charged.

All action in the book takes place in Savannah, Georgia. Kay travels to Georgia Prison for Women to meet an inmate there, a convicted sex offender and lover of Jack Fielding, and also the mother of a vicious killer.

Against the advice of her husband, she continues on her quest to find out exactly what happened to her former co-worker, Jack, but also to learn more about a string of grisly killing years earlier of a Savannah family, as well as unex-plained deaths of prison inmates and a female prosecutor. This all leads to a trail of conspiracy and potential terrorism on an international scale.

With her tenacity and forensic technology, Kay Scarpetta comes through to solve this enthralling mystery.

On behalf of the Entertainment Committee, we want to send our appreciation and our good wishes to a lady who has given her time and shared her wit, expertise, and friendship with us and all Del Tura residents over the past several years as Chairperson of the Entertainment Committee. Cathy Wallace has worked very hard in attempting to schedule shows and dances that Del Turians would enjoy. Her style and sense of humor made her a delight to work with. As I write this article, Cathy is facing some health is-sues. She is in our prayers and will always be a leading lady to us.

In Cathy’s absence, Helene Glasson, who wears so many hats in Del Tura, is serving as acting chairperson. We are so fortunate to have Helene step forward and take on this responsibility. Helene and the other committee members have many ideas that we will be sharing with you in the upcoming months. The Welcome Committee invites all new residents to a get-together Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Fountain Grill Restaurant (the restaurant in Del Tura). This will be a good way for you to get acquainted with your neighbors, learn about activities offered, discover all of the volunteer opportunities and have questions answered. Appe-tizers and soft drinks will be served. There will be a raffle for gifts donated by Del Tura Venders.

We will attempt to deliver an invitation with all of the important information to each new resident. Fliers will be on all bulletin boards at the pools, in the Clubhouse, and on the tables during Tuesday morning coffee.

Today as I reflect on life I can’t help think of how different the times of our lives were back then. How those very special moments would have played out differently if we had been introduced to the technology of today, specifically the cell phone. Please don’t get me wrong! I realize the advances in this field have been necessary and have an important place in our lives. For example, advances such as Skype and Face Time have allowed us to connect with our loved ones who live far away from us. I’m talking about how those pleasant memories of the past, interrupted by the constant ringing of a cell phone, would have altered our recall or, pos-sibly changed how we felt at the time.

As I think back about what true communication meant before the invention of the cell phone I think about Human Communica-tion as being where two or more people would converse eye to eye, and in that we saw and felt the emotion of another human be-ing. In the flesh- not some elec-tronic tool that relies solely on our verbal sounds! How can we expect to change direction in our world if we don’t encourage face-to-face human interaction? It is out of control and is happening in all age groups. Many people have no regard for others: in cars, in

stores, Dr.’s offices, and in our churches. Does everyone need to know the “intimacies” of anoth-er’s life? Can’t it wait? I won-der what is left to say to someone when you finally see each other face-to-face.

Remember how we use to pass the time sitting in a wait-ing room of a Doctor’s office, or standing in a long line a few years back? We had a choice of keep-ing to ourselves, quietly reading, or conversing with others. When we chose the latter we were often pleasantly surprised by how small our world actually is! Many times we found out that we had many things in common: mutual friends or shared hobbies. Somehow it made our wait time less and left us with a good feeling.

Think back on those most en-joyable moments of your lives. What made them so very spe-cial? We were totally in the moment-no interruptions- enjoy-ing our friends and our families. Whether we were sharing an ice cream cone, or taking a walk on the beach we knew that we were communicating our thoughts and our feelings. You felt it and so did they! Human interaction! No cell phones to put a wedge between those unforgettable times.

As I was going through some of the most pleasant times in my life I thought of a time when my Dad took me out fishing one late afternoon many years ago. I was

so excited! You see being the only girl between two brothers it wasn’t something that happened very often; in fact it was a rare outing. It is definitely a memory that plays out in my mind as if it were yesterday. There we were trawling along the shore line in the dingy, the water was calm and the fish were biting. I felt so special…I had my Dad all to my-self! We talked and Dad shared his fishing stories as I sat and listened to every word. It didn’t matter that all that I caught was an eel. (Dad made me throw it back into the water) The most impor-tant thing was our time together-the human interaction….face to face and heart to heart without the sudden unexpected ring of the cell phone to interrupt this special mo-ment.

So the next time that you plan special moments with a loved one: whether it’s a leisurely walk on the beach, or a pleasant lunch- think about turning that cell phone off. Make those moments truly meaningful! Living life in the moment, socially interacting with others that are there with you within the course of the day requires more than the senses of speech and hearing. True com-munication needs face-to-face interaction in order for it to be truly meaningful. One needs to feel what is being said in order to make it a true heartfelt memory.

Well summer has definitely ar-rived and as I type this, the ther-mometer is reading 90 degrees. The closings for aeration and maintenance continue to alternate the available courses. Our par-ticipating players have shrunk as members’ vacation, visit families and friends or escape the heat. As promised this issue will list clos-est to the pin winners, so without further ado:

5/9: Game was 3 clubs and a putter and there was no closest to the pin winner.

5/16: Game was low putts. Closest to the pin was Susan Maginn.

5/23: Game was putts. Closest to the pin was Pat Clemens.

5/30: Game was odd holes. Closest to the pin was Kay Mar-tin.

6/6: Game was eliminate a hole and there was no closest to the pin winner.

6/13: Game was tee to green. Closest to the pin was Katie Yauch.

6/20: No golf due to Men’s LEGA.

6/27: Game was a scramble.

you read this article. Many of our fellow golfers have gone north and even full-time residents take a break to visit family and friends.

The golf course is in rotation for normal maintenance, plantings and aerating. And nothing is more fun than putting on a new-ly-aerated green!! But, we can also take advantage of this time

to visit courses on the Recipro-cal List. The Pro-Shop has the list and will make your tee times for you. Also, in the Pro-Shop is a list of Ladies Summer Clinics that started June 5th and are ev-

ery Wednesday through the end of July. Speak to Ryan Gilbert for details.

June 1 was the first annual ABCD Memorial Tournament, organized and run by Paul Tag-gart. It was really enjoyable to play in and we appreciate all of Paul’s work. The Tournament was played in memory of those golfers who had passed away in the last two years. The money will go for a Fruit Tree in their memory as well as a plaque listing the names.

Since our last article Joyce Alaqua had a hole in one. It was on 2 North on May 25th. Con-gratulations to Joyce!

We had a LEGA event at Whis-key Creek on May 9th. Paula Lafreniere won first overall. Lynne Miller and Carol Marra tied for third. On June 19th we will have gone to Myerlee, Del Tura on September 13th and Burnt Store November 13th. LEGA events always include lunch and

cash winnings in your own Pro Shop.

Summer is a quiet time but the 18-Hole Women’s Association is playing every Thursday at 8:30. If you are interested in joining please speak to Louise Bowers or leave your name in the Pro Shop and we will contact you.

The big event of the fall is our Invitational. Lynne Miller is in charge and the theme is “Make Time for Golf”. Besides 18 holes of golf it will include breakfast, a luncheon and raffle tickets for the chance to win gift baskets includ-ing products from cities where our golf members have lived.

Everyone have a safe and event-filled summer with lots of time for golf, family and friends. And remember, as Will Rogers so eloquently stated: “Golf is good for the soul. You get so mad at yourself you forget to hate your enemies.”

Our Thursday Bowling League will be meeting again for our 2013-2014 season. It will start mid October at 3:00 p.m. at All Star Lanes. However, we will meet on September 19, the third Thursday of the month, at 3:30 p.m. in the Royal Palm Ballroom of the Club-house to get a final count of returning bowlers. If anyone else wishes to join our league, please come to this meet-ing. For over twenty years, Erich has been a favorite musician throughoutsouthwest Florida in places such as surrounding communities, theShell Factory, Powell’s, Lake Kennedy Senior Center, the CulturalCenter of Charlotte County and our Del Tura Starlight Ballroom.

Ticket sales begin at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 27 in the StarlightBallroom. HOA members only the first day of sales. Remainingtickets will be sold in the Starlight Ballroom starting at 7:30 AM on

September 3 and 10. Tickets will also be available in the HOA officefrom 9-12 noon on Thursdays, September 5 and 12.
