OPENING PRAYER Rev. Dr. Malcolm Stranathan God the Maker of all creation, we gather here today to celebrate the good news that you are our God and we are your people. We celebrate that in your love you teach us how to show hospitality to strangers. In your compassion you help us learn to be content with what we have and share it ever more freely with others. Through the complexity of the world you created, we are never at a loss for opportunities to follow You, to discover new ways to serve the whole human family, and to act as loving stewards of the rest of your creation. Be present in us at this celebration, we pray, for we gather in the name of our Savior, Jesus. AMEN. written by Peter Bankson & Deborah Sokolove

Michael and Carmen Zoughbi will be with us to talk about the challenges of life in Israel/Palestine and the olive wood carving they do. Michael and Carmen are Palestinian Christians living in Bethlehem. We ask that those whose last names begin with the letters A—G bring an appetizer or salad; last names beginning with H—Q, bring a main course; and last names beginning with R—Z, bring a dessert. There is a clip board with a sign-up sheet out in the Narthex on the table as you come into the Sanctuary. We look forward to seeing you there.

CONTEMPORARY LIVING CLASS Sundays, 9:45am, starting Sept 8 Alex Olson Suite fan: an enthusiastic admirer.

In the Gospels, Jesus never seemed too interested in fans.

Is that how you define your relationship with Him? An "enthusiastic admirer?” Close enough to Jesus to get the benefits but not so close to require sacrifice?

He was looking for followers. Not just any follower though, but a...

COMPLETELY. COMMITTED. FOLLOWER. How would things change if you lived as Jesus lived, and loved the way He loved?

Maybe you’re ready to join the hundreds of people who have stepped across a line and said:

I am not a fan.
