Your ‘best’ is the best
Week 3 was a week of testing students’ knowledge and skills. Senior students sat their Half Yearly exams. All students did their best, applying themselves to the exams. Now their teachers will be able to give them quality and effective feedback to help the learning process, consolidating and building on their knowledge. Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sat the NAPLAN, that ‘Monster under the bed’. All gave it their best. Whilst the NAPLAN has been a source of great contention over the years, it is helpful to teachers, parents and carers to see how children are progressing. It is a tool, and not the only tool, for gauging what students do know independently and how we can support their development.
NAPLAN and the HSC: Minimum Standard From 2020, all Year 12 students in NSW must reach the minimum standard of numeracy and literacy to receive an HSC. This means students undertaking Year 9 in 2017 will be the first students expected to meet the minimum standard. The tests will first be available to stu-dents in Year 10 towards the end of Term 1, 2018. Introducing a new minimum standard for students to be eligible for the HSC will provide par-ents, further education and training providers, business, and employers with an assurance that students have the everyday literacy and numeracy skills required for life after school. The online literacy and numeracy tests will be available for students to sit up to twice a year in Years 10, 11 and 12 and for up to five years after starting the HSC if required. Remember it is the minimum standard. Please do not stress as it is an achievable goal for our students; and teachers and staff are here to support them.

Congratulations to Abbey, Allie, Bella, Brooke, Chloe and Kaitlin who were successful and selected in this squad.
The 28 girls selected were given another opportunity to impress the selectors in a ‘Possibles V Probables’ game. Our girls continued to play well in this final game. This is the second consecutive year Abbey and Bella have been selected in the Western Riverina squad and the first time for Brooke and Kaitlin.

In an hour and a half, students photographed each other and edited themselves using Photoshop.
They were able to turn three shots into one. We think it looks very effective!!

OPEN GIRLS SOCCER REPORT
The RAP Open girls’ soccer team played some great soccer last week when they competed against Narrandera High and Wade High School in the CHS knockout competition. The first game was against Narrandera. RAP took up the ball straight away and within minutes were taking their first shots at goal. An aggressive front line made up of Charlotte, Adela and Heather (ACS) saw a fast paced game with many shots. Unfortunately, we were equally matched with speed by the Narrandera side and they were more successful at putting the ball in the back of the net. The RAP defence led by Natassia and Kendal worked hard throughout the game, but some fancy footwork and a bit of speed saw Narrandera score three goals in the first half. Following a coach’s talk at half time, the team went back out to the field with a little more confidence managing to hold Narrandera out for most of the second half, with Narrandera forwards dropping just one shot for the entire half seeing Hillston defeated 4-0. Well done to everyone, especially to Jade Neal who worked tirelessly in goals. Our second match was against first round winners Wade H.S. who were a well-oiled team, demonstrating slick passing and excellent ball moving skills. The RAP girls despite this stepped up to the challenge, they held their positions well, demonstrated some great passing skills and communicated well on the field. Unfortunately, the Wade team had some very strong forward players who put up some great shots despite the fantastic effort put in by the RAP midfielders and back line who never stopped trying throughout the entire match. Well done to all the players, you worked really hard in both the games, with the game score not reflecting the true tale of the match, 7-0 WHS. Congratulations to the opens team on a great effort! Northern Jets Weekly Report -Round 1
Under 11’s Report
The boys were keen to begin the 2017 season with Noah Harper voted in as Captain and Darcy Gaynor voted in as Vice Captain. This set the scene for a great contest against the Barellan outfit, which is probably the local derby of the league. With great determination the boys played some fantastic football under good playing conditions. They were dominating from the very beginning with all new players showing plenty of skill. The boys landed 5 goals in the first quarter, 6 goals in the second, and 7 goals in the third. The final quarter was pressure football, with Barellan able to reduce the Jets to only 2 goals for the quarter. Alex Rees played extremely well at Centre half back with many coun-ter attacks and brother Sebastian Rees was terrific on the forward line, attacking many forward presses. Noah Harper was brilliant for four quarters, and kicked 6 goals to win the Elders Towel. Jo Quade had a superb game and set up many goals at Centre Half Forward to win the GBS Fuel Dis-tribution $10 Award. Oliver Petrie set up and kicked goals accurately to win the Jet socks, sponsord by Ardlethan Pharmacy. Max Collis, Lachlan Buerckner, Cooper Edis, and Jimmy O’Hare all played their part by kicking goals. We would like to give special thanks to our new players for their commitment to our team in playing with our club. We now look forward to our next game against Temora. Final score Jets 21-6-132 def Barellan 0.
Under 13’s Report
The boys had a great win against the undermanned Barellan side, thanks to all the boys who went across and played a quarter with Barellan, especially Darcy Gaynor and Noah Harper who played the whole game. The award winners were Oliver French, who won the Landmark Towel , and played a great game in the ruck and up forward kicking a goal. The $10 Ariah Park Hardware Award went to Jack Hawthorne who kicked 2 goals and played well at Centre Half Forward. Jack Speirs attacked the ball up forward all game and kicked a goal to the win the Mirrool Hotel socks. We had 13 different goal kickers which shows it was a team game. Well Done boys. Final Score Jets 18-20-128 def Barellan 0-1-1
Northern Jets Weekly Report- Round 2
JETS vs Temora @ Ariah Park
Under 11’s
The boys recorded our second win of the year with a gutsy win over Temora. The team showed great skill and sports-manship in a great display of under 11’s football. Our best players were again hard to separate with Jack Golder win-ning the GBS Fuel Distribution $10 award. Jayden Strick-land had a great game with many attacking processions through the centre to win the Ardlethan Pharmacy Jet socks. And the main Northern Jet Elders Towel award went
to Harry Roscarel who played extremely well and marked
all day and never stopped trying in the backline. New players in Alister Brown, Tom Writer and Will Fairman were inspiration in their attack on the football and their relent-less tackling. Oliver Petrie tried hard at fullback as did Brock Strickland and Angus Pursehouse who were extreme-ly busy repelling many attacking raids. Noah Harper was extremely impressive in the forward line kicking all our 6 goals. Special praise must go to every player who gave their all right up to the final siren. We now look forward to our next game. Final Score 06-04-40 def Temora 01-06-12
Under 13’s
The boys were beaten by a better side on the day, they tried hard all day with Jack Hawthorne running hard ? the half back line, having another good day. Riley Judd was getting lots of kicks around the ground to win the Landmark towel. Nate Doyle ran hard all game in the backline getting plenty of kicks to win the $10 Ariah Park Hardware Award. New player and teammate Josh Cameron ran all day in the backline, also with plenty of kicks, giving 100% to win the Mirrool Hotel Socks.. We had 2 goal kickers with 1 goal each, Charlie McCormack and Noah Harper. Better luck next week. Final Score Temora 05-13-43 def Jets 02-00-02
Under 15’s
Friday night in Ariah Park was the scene for the Northern Jets Under 15s football team to tackle Temora in their first hit out of the season. In cool conditions the game got off to a scrappy start with neither side able to gain the ascendancy with the scores being 3 to 2 at quarter time in favour of the Jets. The 2nd quarter saw the game open up more with the Jets able to kick 2 goals to take a handy 13 point lead into half time. The 3rd quarter however proved to be the Jets downfall with the home side dropping off slightly in their pressure around the ball allow-ing Temora to kick 4 unanswered goals and all but seal vic-tory. To the Jets credit they rallied in the last quarter and fought the game out to the end eventually going down 6-10-46 to 3-3-21. Rowan Duncan booted 2 goals for the Jets and Riley Walker 1. Best Players were Blair McLean who played a great game and won the Bulldogs Excavator Hire towel. Nick Fairman who never stopped trying for the whole match and won the $10 Jason Bryce Spreading Award. Brodie Semmler also had a cracking game and won the socks, sponsored by the Ardlethan/Ariah Park Super-market. Others to play well for the Jets were Josh Roscarel, Brodie Jones, Ben Grinter and Jimmy Griffin. The under 15s have the bye this week.

Northern Jets Weekly Report- Round 3 JETS vs GGGM @ Ariah Park 06-05-17 Under 11’s The boys were beaten on the day, but our boys had a red hot dip. We never gave up and attacked the ball all day. Max Collis had a great game on the ball to win the Elders Towel. Tommy Writer tried hard all day at full back and took some great marks and kicks to win the $10 award. The Ardlethan Pharmacy socks went to the first year player Alister Brown collected a lot of Marks and kicks, well done Alister. Darcy Gaynor, Noah Harper and Alex Rees also had great games on the ball to be included in the best players. Goal kickers included Darcy Gaynor 2 goals Noah Harper 1 goal and Cooper Edis 1 goal . Final Score GGGM 08-08-56 def Jets 04-03-27 Under 13’s With our coach and six of the team away, we started with 14 players. With the help of our 4 Under 11’s, Noah Har-per, Alex Rees, Lachlan Buerckner, Darcy Gaynor, who all played great football, we were competitive for most of the game. We moved the ball exceptionally well in the 2nd quar-ter with great teamwork and commitment. . The award winners for this week were Taylor Heath, who played excel-lent all day, went home with the Landmark Towel Award. Wilson Gaynor in defence had his work cutout, but played well to receive the $10 Ariah Park Hardware Award, and Alex Harper had the best game I’ve seen him play in de-fence, to receive the Mirrool Hotel socks. Great effort boys, keep training and keep improving. Final Score: GGGM 15-08-98 def Jets 2-3-15 Under 15’s Under 15’s Bye
Round 2 Netball Report Jets v Temora
Under 11’s Teal This week northern Jets under 11's teal played against Temora at Ariah Park on Friday night. While three girls played their debut games this week, the group is starting to work well together. It was great to see the girls who were rostered off this week on the sideline cheering the team on. We saw promise for the future in the second quarter when good defence and attack from the front saw the Jets out score Temora for the quarter. This week Elsie Furphy won the Delta towel award, Olivia Mills won the Ariah Park Bowling Club $10 award and Jennifer Webb won the Beckon Hotel $5 canteen award. All the girls are improving each week. The final score was temora 13 jets 5
Under 11’s White
'This week the girls played Temora at Ariah Park on Friday night. The Under 11’s had a fabulous game to beat Temora 16-5. All the girls played very well, each contributing something special to the game. They moved the ball well down the court, played with determination and gelled as a team. The defenders did ex-tremely well against tall opposition. The Beckom Hotel $5 Canteen Award went to Gabrielle Fairman, The Delta towel went to Alice Doyle and the $10 Bowling Club Award went to Jo Bray.'
Under 13’s Not knowing what to expect, the girls went out hard in the first quarter, and to their delight, secured 17 goals to 0, and continued to dominate throughout the game, increasing the margin comfortably each quarter. It was a great team effort by all of the girls, and a good opportunity for some of them to try new positions out of their comfort zone. The Jets ended up winning 55-1, and with two convincing wins now, will have to stay focused and prepare themselves for some tough games ahead. Our award winners for this week were, Best on court Bowling club award went to Izzy Gaynor, who played out of her usual position, but proved that you can make an impact anywhere on the court if you try your hardest. The Beckon Hotel canteen award went to our little pocket rocket Maddy Cassidy, who really found her place on the court in WA, and piled up the possession tally. Well done Maddy, was so good to see you shine. The Delta towel award went to another pocket rocket, Bella Fairman, who shot goals beautifully, and with confidence, which showed on the scoreboard. After a big day with school netball trials, both Brooke Denyer and Bella Fairman continued to play so well, and show just why they got selected in the PSSA team to now trial at Wagga Wagga for hopefully a spot in the Riverina netball side.
Under 15s The under 15 Northern Jets netballers enjoyed a rare game under lights when we welcomed near neighbours Temora to Ariah Park on Friday night. The entire game was played in the right spirit & good sportsmanship was displayed by all members of both teams. It was a very tight, even contest with only 1 goal separating the teams at three quarter time, Temora put on a strong finish in the last quarter and the Jets girls went down 23-30. Abbey Doyle had a great game with accurate shooting & strong rebounding to take out the $10 Ariah Park Bowling Award. Lily Walker showed her versatility playing both ends of the court switching between Goal Attack & Goal Defence to win the $5 Beckom Hotel Canteen Award. Olivia Harper played her usual consistent game causing lots of turnovers through the centre court to take home the Delta Towel Award.
Round 3 Netball Report
Under 11’s Teal Jets Teal under 11’s played two games this Saturday against Ganmain under 11’s Cubs and then Lions. In the first game against the Cubs, Teal were well matched in size and age while in the second game the Ganmain Lions had a height advantage. In both games the girls continued to show im-provement – this was especially evident in the second game where they had to work very hard to stay in the game against the taller, more skilled Lions. The second game was a real challenge for the girls and it was fabulous to see them doing everything that was asked of them. The focus and continued run the girls showed in both games was great to watch! In the first game Josie Heath moved well around the

court, getting front position and scoring 3 goals, she was awarded the Delta towel. Sophie Dart played a great game at centre and goal defence getting out in front and moving quickly into position, she was award the $10 Bowling Club award. Bronte Ingram ran well on the wing to get out in front and won the $5 Beckom Hotel canteen award. The final score was Cubs 12 Jets Teal 3. Against the Lions Maya Prentice did a great job at goal keeper and in defence winning the Delta towel award. Isobel Herden worked hard in defence on the wing and in the goal winning the $5 Beckom Hotel canteen award. And Lucy Edis continued to run as centre and goal attack winning the $10 Bowling Club award. The final score was Lions 37 Jets Teal 1.
Under 11’s White
Under 11's played two games on Saturday, against the two Ganmain Under 11s sides. We played Ganmain Blue Lions girls first and were defeated 5-31. The Girls ran well, working hard for four quarters and played their best against a well drilled Ganmain side. In the second game we played the Ganmain Cubs side, beating them 13 – 2. The Best on Court for the Ariah Park Bowling Club Award (first game) was given to Tully Gaynor who played a great defensive game and in the second game, Bethany Webb, received this award also for her defensive game. The Beckom Hotel $5 Canteen Award went to Alice Doyle, another con-sistent effort in defence and Sophie Maxwell, playing well at both ends of the court, respectively. Gabrielle Fairman re-ceived the Delta Towel for a consistent game and Kate O’Dwyer in the second game.
Under 13's The under 13's girls made a strong start to their third round match against Ganmain. The girls demonstrated great team-work, confidently moving the ball down to the goal circle where shooters Mae Lucas and Paige Brown put away 9 goals for the first quarter. This set the tone for the remainder of the game, with good consistent court play and accurate shooting throughout the match. The girls are to be congratu-lated this week on their encouragement and support of all team members. The award winners this week were Paige Brown ($10 bowling club award), Mae Lucas ($5 canteen award) and Hayley Writer (Landmark towel). Under 15’s Unsure of what to expect from a usually strong Ganmain team, the Under 15’s took the court full of positivity and en-thusiasm. The first quarter was fast paced with both sides going goal for goal until the Jets were able to hold a two goal lead at the end of the quarter. The Under 15’ continued their dominance over a tiring Ganmain side and extended their lead at half time to 19 – 11. A lull in the third quarter saw scoring opportunities limited as Ganmain capitalised on a change to their defence which placed more pressure on our attacking players. The Jets defenders maintained their inten-sity and also kept Ganmain’s opportunities to a minimum and conceded only 4 goals in the third quarter and holding a strong lead of 25 - 15. With the warmer weather now affecting both teams, the Jets were able to hold strong in
both attack and defence in the last quarter and gave a stellar performance which was their best quarter of the game. They were able to capitalise on every attacking play while holding Ganmain to an almost goal-less quarter until they scored in the dying seconds of the game. All players gave 100% effort to the game and maintained their composure and positivity in the face of an unrelenting Ganmain defence. Each team member made outstanding contributions in their game and the final score was 37 – 16. Georgie Quade was the player’s player and won the Ariah Park Bowling Club award for her exceptional defence in GK, Lily Walker won the coveted Delta Towel for her grace under pressure in GA and Abbey Doyle won the Beckom Hotel award for her fabulous shooting in GS – only missing one shot for the game. Thanks must also go to Amanda Prentice for umpiring the game.
