Information: A. Possible Public Comment

Tamika Mayfield, 57 High Street, spoke about using epi-pens in schools and noted they do not always save lives.

Sue Kuczenski, 107 Dunn Avenue spoke about the High School Cheerleading Coach, who has canceled numerous practices, often a no show andis is not teaching the girls.

Shay Kuczenski, Student, noted that she is a Senior and the Cheerleading Coach did not show up for Senior Night.

Caitlyn Whitley, Student shared that the Cheerleading Coach was quick to pick Captains without getting to know the girls.

Kristen Mabrouk, Naugatuck Youth Services spoke about the Coalition Meeting and Girls on the Run which will start up in the Spring, with CoachTraining on January 24, 2018.

Laurie Jackson, 204 Margaret Circle noted that the Cheerleaders lacked enthusiasm and needed Board of Education intervention to help with anew Coach. Ms. Jackson also congratulated the Board Members on their election.

10. Student ReportStudent Representatives Ben Wierzbicki and Raymond Lucarelli shared that Mr. Zeigler, Naugatuck High School’s personal “Dream Director,” haslaunched an after school club, The Dream Team, for students interested in promoting diversity within our high school. The Naugatuck BoysSoccer team won the NVL Championship game against Watertown last Thursday on November 2nd. The game was won in overtime with a 3 - 1lead to take home the title for the fifth year in a row.

13. Superintendent's Report

Action, Information: A. Naugatuck Youth LeadersNaugatuck High School in collaboration with Naugatuck Youth Services will participate in The Great Kindness Challenge January 22-26, 2018.The plan is focus on grades K-12 and to make it a fun competition. The students also presented a proposal for a graduation walk, where the2018 high school graduates would spend 2 days in June in their graduation robes touring the district schools and parading the hallways whilethe students watch. The purpose is to be roll models and encourage more students to have academic excellence and strive to graduate. BoardChair Dorothy Neth-Kunin noted she is excited to have the other students see the graduates walk.

Motion to approve the Great Kindness Challenge in the Naugatuck Public Schools from January 22-26, 2018 and endorse the Senior GraduationWalk that has already been approved by the Superintendent.

Information: C. Strategic Plan Priority 3Business Manager Bernice Rizk presented The Strategic Plan Priority 3 to Refine, Construct and Operationalize Systems that Support our Schoolsas they Work to Ensure Every Student Becomes the Vision of the Graduate. Ms. Rizk detailed actions to accomplish the strategy noting peoplewho contact the Business Office will be treated in a professional manner, the staff will provide superior customer service, there will be a cultureof professionalism and mutual respect. The Business Office will be timely in closing purchase orders, improve communication with schools andvalidate purchase orders in a timely manner. Monthly detailed reconciliation of Town and BOE ledgers will be done and a collaborativeenvironment will be created.

Information Technology Director Alan Merly presented Strategy 3.3 to Design technology systems and develope NPS IT Processes to enableevery community member to access and utilize information that is timely and meaningful to their role in developing every student into theVision Of the Graduate. Mr. Merly explained the actions to accomplish Strategy 3.3 noting every Teacher understands the function and canmaximize the utilization of classroom technology, every student is empowered to leverage technology while engaging in learning experiences asthey become the Vision of the Graduate, the IT Department will collaborate with building leaders to build the capacity of classroom teachers touse technology as an instructional tool and the IT Director will provide ongoing professional development to the IT Department so they cansupport building leaders.
