CONTENTS Combining military knowledge and engineering expertise
In 1945, Joseph Cyril Bamford launched the construction
and agricultural manufacturing company that bears his
initials. Over the years, the company’s pioneering spirit
and reputation for superb build quality has led to huge
success: we now lead the world in backhoe loaders and
telescopic handlers, we manufacture over 300 machines
and we boast some of the finest engineering facilities
across the globe.
During the last few decades, the JCB Defence division
has built on the company’s rich engineering heritage,
using specialist military expertise to create a number
of high-speed (all are capable of up to 80kph) defence
solutions: the JCB High Mobility Engineer Excavator
(HMEE), the JCB High Mobility Rough Terrain Forklift
(HMRTF) telescopic handler and the JCB Military
Fastrac (HMF) general logistics utility vehicle. (For further
information about the high mobility range, see the JCB
Defence High Mobility brochure).
But in addition to these highly specialist military machines,
defence operations throughout the world are also
coming to rely more and more on existing JCB
technology for vital frontline work as well as construction
and reconstruction tasks. With a choice of over 300
commercial engineering and logistics models, it’s easy
to see why.
From backhoe loaders, telescopic handlers, wheeled
loading shovels and excavators, to our compact range of
machines, skid steers, Teletruks and the Groundhog 4x4
utility vehicle, the versatility, reliability and productivity
of JCB machinery is quite simply second to none.

From the 22.5hp (16.8kW) Mini CX with a 2.54m dig
depth to the 100hp (74.2kW) 4CX Super Sitemaster
with a 6m plus dig depth, we’ve got every type of
backhoe loader covered. Whether you need these
machines for the construction of defensive positions,
in support of offensive operations, or for construction/
reconstruction tasks, JCB backhoes provide the superb
build quality and reliability that military operations
demand and when combined with their versatility
will tackle almost any task.
The two smallest models in the JCB range are the
Mini CX and 1CX. The Mini CX is similar in weight
to a mini excavator but its top speed of 10kph is over
three times faster. At just 1.4 metres wide with the
ability to turn on its own axis, the 1CX operates in
virtually any environment. It comes with full side-shift
capability and, with a reach of over 3.38 metres, allows
you to dig and prepare defensive positions with minimal
time needed for repositioning.
The next machines in the JCB backhoe family are the
2CXs; five models offering high performance and

JCB telescopic handlers
Ultimate reliability as standard, sophisticated design
processes, high quality manufacturing and meticulous
testing. All are trademarks of the JCB telescopic handler,
a concept that we pioneered in 1977. It’s no wonder
that we sell more of these incredibly versatile machines
than any other manufacturer.
With capacities of 2 to 2.7 tonnes and lift heights from
4 to 5.6 metres, the JCB 520-40, 524-50 and 527-55
are compact performers perfect for working in confined
spaces such as storage facilities, hangars or ship’s decks.
These machines are fitted with naturally aspirated
engines, producing from 50 to 85hp (37.5 to 63kW).
All the engines drive through a high-ratio and low-ratio
hydrostatic transmission for simple operation and ease
of handling and you’ll find that high engine output,
combined with low overall weight, equals a high
power-to-weight ratio.
Also ideal for small sites or bases, and working inside
containers the compact, rear-engine 526 and 528 are
genuine tool carriers that can get through impressive
workloads. Plus, an optional powershift transmission
and turbocharged engines offer even higher
productivity. And moving on to the side-engine
531-70, 536-60 and 541-70, these machines
offer increased payloads and reach together
with excellent loader performance.
7
Plus, the patented JCB auto steer-mode alignment
system allows tight lock angles for easier turning.
For precision lift and place performance, and unloading
containers, you’ll find the extra reach and payload you
need within the rest of our range, from the 535-95
to our flagship 540-170. All these models, except the
533-105, also boast the optional JCB sway system,
which levels the machine when traversing a gradient
and makes inserting forks into pallets on uneven
ground easier.
Throughout the range our reliable 85, 100 or 125hp
(63, 74.2 or 93kW) JCB Dieselmax engines drive
through a torque converter to the standard JCB 4-speed
transmission, while low centres of gravity and long
wheel bases aid stability when roading at speed.

JCB wheeled loading shovels and excavators
JCB wheeled loaders are designed to work exceptionally
hard. So at the heart of every machine in the range
is impressive power, from either a JCB, Deutz or
Cummins engine. All develop excellent torque at
low engine speeds and offer proven reliability, low
noise and low exhaust emissions.
On our larger wheeled loading shovels (411 upwards),
JCB fully automatic powershift transmissions give you the
necessary tractive effort for working in the toughest
conditions. Plus, the automatic transmission accurately
matches engine speed to application, maintaining
optimum fuel efficiency at all times.
Limited slip differentials are optional across all larger
models for efficient transmission of power to the
non-slipping wheel in arduous conditions. You can also
opt for the JCB smoothride system, which improves
productivity by enabling the machine to work faster
over rough terrain and enhancing operator comfort.
Whether preparing defensive positions, route
preparation and clearing, or more general
construction, humanitarian or reconstruction
tasks, or quarrying or demolition, tasks, every
JCB JS tracked excavator provides the
performance you need to get the
operation completed.
9
For example, the JS330 HRD (high reach) 3-piece
modular demolition dig-end can be replaced with a
standard boom and dipper configuration for increased
versatility and machine utilisation. We offer XD (extra
duty) models for particularly arduous applications.
LR (long reach) models for digging in water. LC (long
carriage) for added stability and a TAB (triple articulated
boom) version for easier transportation, digging closer
to the machine and greater lift capacity.
If you need road speeds of up to 30kph as well as
performance, you need our wheeled excavator models.
There are five machines in the range, all featuring the
same powerful Isuzu engine. Together with the tracked
models, there is no doubt that these are among the
best excavators we have ever built. Powerful and fuel
efficient for high performance and low running costs,
comfortable for excellent productivity,
and reliable, durable and easy to
service for minimum downtime.
They’re very hard to beat.

Compact handling solutions
11
If it’s productive digging power in confined spaces you
need, you can’t beat a JCB mini excavator. Precision
control, unrivalled service access and an exceptional
operator environment, all in a compact package that’s
easy to transport by road, air or sea. Five of the models
in the range also offer true zero tailswing with no
compromise to ease of operation and control.
And finally the diesel powered Groundhog 4x4, a genuine
All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) which can go anywhere
carrying a 500kg load whilst towing the same weight
at the same time. This machine can be adapted to
suit many requirements and is ideal for transporting
equipment and personnel over difficult areas and through
the most demanding conditions. in any operational phase.
The JCB skid steer was the first in the world to offer
the safety and convenience of side access. The smallest
model in the range, with a rated operating capacity of
600kg, is the 160. Its short wheelbase and compact,
narrow, low design give excellent manoeuvrability.
The skid steer 170, 180 and 190 (700kg, 800kg and
900kg operating capacities) feature a longer wheelbase
for increased stability, and the optional Hi-Flow hydraulics
give increased pump flow to power more specialised
attachments. The largest wheeled machine is the 1110.
Fitted with a turbocharged JCB Dieselmax engine (like
the 190), it’s ideal for larger operations.
Three compact tracked loaders complete the line-up;
the 180T, 190T and 1110T. These offer increased
operating capacity and excellent lateral stability, traction
and low ground bearing pressure for the most arduous
applications.
JCB Teletruks are unique counterbalanced forklifts
combining all the advantages of a telescopic boom with
small size, excellent manoeuvrability and superb forwards
visibility, perfect for working inside containers. These
machines bring the carriage rotation, which is common
on larger telescopic handlers to small, counterbalanced
FLTs. So whether you are moving palletised loads or
bulk materials with a bucket, it’s easier, faster and safer
with a Teletruk.
