How to Get Started?
Select a topic or a theme Have an IDEA! What is it you would like
to talk about? Examples: hobbies, sports, famous
person, vacation, friend, special event, animals, etc
Do not use last year’s speech!!! Topics should be appropriate for school
and 4-H!!!

Your speech should have three parts:
→ Introduction
→ Body
→ Conclusion
Keep in Mind:A public speech should
inform, persuade, or entertain the audience. A public speech is not a
demonstration or an illustrated talk.

• Use a short introduction to get the audience’s attention and share your main idea.
• Can use a famous quote, a question or your reason for choosing your topic.

Write your speech on notebook paper and have your teacher approve it

4th – 6th Grades Classroom Level – ribbons awarded for 1st- 3rd places (1st place
speaker moves to school contest)
School Level – medallions awarded for 1st- 3rd (1st place speaker moves to county contest)
County Level – plaques awarded for 1st- 3rd (1st place winners receive full 4-H camp scholarships)
