12 Safe Maintenance Rules

HAZARD ISOLATIONS

April 19, 2023 | 2

To protect the persons who intervene on a facility,

to be sure of the energy absence (electricity, fluids,

chemicals and mechanics)

The incidents linked to an isolation absence are

not numerous but are generally of a strong severity

This is an essential step in both the workplace and

at home

WHY THIS RULE?

RULE DEFINITION

HAZARD ISOLATIONS

When performing a task on a powered or

pressurized system ensure that isolations have

been validated by the exploitation team and

double check all isolations are in place as per the

isolation plan.

Check isolations prior to working on any powered or pressurized systemIsolation protects people and facilities against the consequences

of: electrical, mechanical energy and pressure energy risks

Wear all prescribed PPEPPE is my last layer of protection against electrical risk.

PPE is provided by Dietsmann and must be kept in good

condition.

Perform an absence of power and/or pressuretest prior to starting my task

To be sure of the energy absence:

electricity, fluids, chemicals and mechanics

Ensure that the electrical rescue kit is available in the electrical cabinet

The kit consists of: a pair of insulating gloves, insulating stool,

insulating pole and insulating rug. A safety poster with what to

do in case of electrocution is located on the door

Absence of pressure

Perform works on energized systems without a dedicated Permit to Work

Isolation is integrated in the Permit To Work

Without authorization, I must not intervene.

RESTART THE MACHINERY

When restarting the machinery, here are some steps to follow:

Ensure that nonessential items are removed from equipment

Ensure that equipment components are intact

Check area to ensure that all affected employees are safely

positioned or removed from the area

Notify all affected employees and site supervisor before

reenergizing the equipment

Remove lockout/tagout devices

Reenergize equipment to ensure safe operation
