By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us to deal with climate change". “International Day of Yoga” was organized on 21 st June, 2016 at HC&RI, Venkataramanna- gudem. Dr.B.M.C. Reddy, Vice-Chancellor participated in the celebrations along with the University Offers. Yoga Master Sri. I . Madhava Rao guided the participants in performing different asanas. The Vice-chancellor and University Officers along with the staff and students practiced yoga. Yoga Day was also organized at all the constituent colleges of the University. Events

International Day of Yoga The United Nations has declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga. As said by Sri. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony be-tween man and nature and a holistic approach to health and well-being. Board of management meeting 38th Board of management meeting of Dr YSRHU was held on 27.06.2016 at University Head Quar-ters, Venkataramannagudem. Dr. B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-Chancellor made a presentation on various ac-tivities of the university from inception to till date besides giving the details of different events that took place after 37th Board of management meeting held on 3rd February, 2016. The board dis-cussed about the agenda items. Members of Board of management visited Post Harvest Technology Research Station, Horticultural College & Research Institute, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Horticul-tural Research Station at Venkataramannagudem and got acquainted with the activities.

Annual group meeting of AICRP on Floriculture Dr. B.M.C. Reddy, Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the 25th Annual group meeting of AICRP on Floriculture at CTRI, Raja-mahendravaram on 28.06.2016 jointly organized by the Uni-versity and Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune. Dr. B.M.C. Reddy suggested the scientists to give major thrust to the research on dry flower technology, polyhouse cultiva-tion, viral diseases and growing media for various flower crops. Dr. T. Janakiram insisted upon taking up research on non pesticidal management and pollution control plants. Interface meeting on Phytoplasma diseases Academia and Farmer interface meeting on “Phytoplasma diseases in horticultural crops - Current status and Future challenges” was organized jointly by Dr.YSRHU, Directorate of Floriculture and Indian Nurserymen Association on 29.06.2016 at Anam Kalakendram, Rajamahendravaram. Dr. B.M.C. Reddy, Vice-Chancellor attended the meeting as chief guest and informed that a new Quarantine Centre for identification of Phytoplasma diseases is going to be estab-lished at Rajamahendravaram. Dr.B.Srinivasulu, Registrar, Dr.J. Dilip Babu, Director of Research, Dr. M. Krishna Reddy, Principal Scientist, IIHR, Bengaluru, Dr. K.V. Prasad, Director, Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune and Dr. P.Damodar Reddy, Di-rector, CTRI attended the meeting and shared their views with the delegates. Nurserymen from Kadiyam and farmers attended this meeting. Information brochure on ‘Know about phytoplsma diseases’ and CD on ‘Phytoplasma diseases in horticultural crops—Current status and future chal-lenges’ were also released on this occasion.

Koha library software Dr.B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-Chancellor launched the Koha Software at University Library on 22.06.2016 as part of digitisation. Koha is the library automation software which is designed to manage physical collections of items (books, CDs, videos, ref-erence etc.). This software provides cataloguing, searching, member/patron management, an acquisitions system and cir-culation (issues, returns and reserves).

Education

Mushroom Production First crop of milky mushrooms was harvested at Mushroom unit of Department of Horticultural Plant Pathology, HC&RI, Anantharajupeta on 28.06.2016.

Exposure visits Students of 1st year Diploma, Horticulture Polytechnic, Kalikiri visited processing factory of M/s. Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. at Gangadhara Nellore, M/s. Galla Foods Private Ltd., Putalapattu, Chittoor District and ultra high density planting of mango variety totapuri at Penumur on 25.06.2016. NSS Activities NSS General activities were taken up on 30.06.2016 at Horticulture Polytechnic, Kalikiri. Pruning and basin preparation for ornamental plants and planting of Pongamia saplings in front of the boys hostel were taken up. Vanam kosam manam “Vanam kosam manam” programme was organized by NSS unit of HC&RI, Anantharajupeta by planting of coconuts plants in the campus. Smt. M. Ushadevi garu, Member, Board of management of Dr.YSRHU also participated in this programme on 25.06.2016. Placements Ms. Ch Janani of HC&RI, Venkataramannagudem got selection as Horticultural Officer at Eles-waram, E.Godavari dist. Mr. K. Vardhini Kumari of HC&RI, Venkataramannagudem got selection as Horticultural Officer at Koduru, Y.S.R.Kadapa dist. Ms. Prveena of HC&RI, Venkataramannagudem got selection as Horticultural Supervisor at Capital Region Development Authority, Govt of Andhra Pradesh. Mr. N. Varaprasad, Mr. S. Siva Ramakrishna, Mr. J. Aresh, Mr. B. Ganga Ramakrishna, Mr. U.Vamsi krishna, Mr. J. Srikanth and Mr. M. Surendra Babu of HC&RI, Venkataramannagudem were se-lected for the Agronomist post in M/s. Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd.

Research

Brinjal germplasm Twenty two new accessions of Solanum melongena L. and ten accessions of wild brinjal (Solanum sps.) from IIHR and fifty accessions of tomato from NBPGR were collected by Horticultural Re-search Station, Venkataramannagudem in addition to the existing 113 accessions.

Palmyra Fruit Neera New technology for “ Palmyrah Fruit Neera" which can be promoted as health drink as it is nutritious was developed at Horticultural Research Station, Pandirimamidi which will extend the neera availability through out the year. Disease survey Ms. T. Sowmya, Research Associate (Plant pathology), HRS, Kovvur conducted survey on 24.06.2016 on banana diseases and observed the prevalence of Eumusae leaf spot in the variety Kovvur Bontha at Bobbaralanka, East Godavari District.

Extension Diagnostic visits Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento), HRS, Ambajipeta conducted a diagnostic visit to mango garden in Gudapalli village, East Godavari district along with local farmers on 18.06.2016 and observed the incidence of leaf webber and advised to take up the pruning of dead and diseased branches and fertilizer application coinciding monsoon rains. Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), HCRI, Anantharajupet went to Rayavaram village, T. Sun-dupalli mandal, Y.S.R Dt. on 18.06.2016, visited jamun and guava orchards, noticed fruit drop and stem borer incidence in jamun and severe white fly attack in guava and suggested management practices. Smt.E.Padma, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. A. Snehalatha Rani, Scientist (Plant Pathology), HRS, Ambajipeta carried out a diagnostic field survey in Katrenikona village of East Godavari district along with local farmers on 24.06.2016 and noticed Ganoderma infested palms and drying of leaves due to intense sun scorching and suggested remedial measures to the farmers. Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort), HRS, Ambajipeta conducted survey on coconut based cropping systems being practiced by the farmers of East Godavari district at Ravulapalem, Kothapeta, Malikipuram, Katrenikona and Razole villages on 21.06.2016.

Meetings attended Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK, Pandirimamidi participated in National Orientation work-shop for the Fisheries from 16th to 17th June, 2016 organised by National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad and participated in the discussions related to capacity building programmes for fish farmers, identification of fish farmer needs, strategies for increasing production, introduction and cultivation of new species and various schemes for beneficiaries.

Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head and Sri.V.Govadhan Rao, SMS (Plant Pathology), KVK, Pandirima-midi attended interaction meeting with NGOs and Departmental Officers on Sorghum cultivation in the agency area sponsored by ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad under Tribal Sub Plan. Dr.L.Naram Naidu, Principal Scientist (Hort) & Head, HRS, Lam attended annual review meeting of CSS MIDH programmes sponsored by DASD, Calicut at MPKV, Rahuri on 24th &25th June, 2016.

Yeruvaka Pournami Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK, Pandirimamidi participated in ‘Yeruvaka Pournami’ Programme on 20.06.2016 at D.V.Kota village of Maredumilli mandal organized by Department of Agriculture, East Go-davari district. Smt. Vanthala Rajeswari, MLA, Rampachodavaram, Line department officials and 220 tribal farmers participated in this programme. Sri D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort), HRS, Anantharajupeta and Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort), HC&RI, Anantharajupeta participated in ‘Yeruvaka Pournami’ programme organized by Dept. of Agriculture at Obanapalle, Y.S.R district on 20.06.2016. Training programmes Dr.K.Ravi Kumar, SMA (Hort), KVK, Pandirimamidi attended one day training programme on 27.06.2016 as a resource person on “Canopy management and rejuvenation in mango and cashew” at Koti village of Korukonda mandal organized by Dept. of Horticulture, Rajamahen-dravaram. Technical guidance was given to the farmers on pruning, ba-sin preparation, inter crops, green manure crops, fertilizer application, crop regulation and top working in mango and cashew. Dr.K.Ravi Kumar, SMA (Horti.), KVK, Pandirimamidi participated in Farmer Producer Group’s formation through “Rajavommangi Horticul-ture Producer Company Ltd.” organized by Swarajya Abhyudaya Seva Samithi (SAAS) with the financial support from NABARD on 17.06.2016 at Parimitadaka village of Eleswaram mandal. Technical support on im-proved technologies, transport & marketing of predominant horticul-tural crops was provided to the farmers and motivated them towards growing of commercial cash crops which fetches higher market value. Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy, Scientist (Ento), HRS, Anantharajupeta attended one day Awareness cum Training Program for Fruits & Vegetable Clus-ters on “Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for Primary Producers and Stakeholders of Mango for Exports” at Chittoor on 29.06.2016 as Speaker on the subject “ Entomology, MRL issues and Lab testing in Mangoes” organized by APEDA- CII- FACE. Dr.C.Sarada, Sr. Scientist (Hort), Smt.T.Vijaya Lakshmi, Scientist (Pl.Pathology) and Dr.C.Venkata Ramana, Scientist (Hort), HRS, Lam attended meeting on “ICM in chillies” as recourse persons or-ganized by Department of Horticulture on 18.06.2016 at ZP Hall, Guntur .

Scientists of KVK, V.R.Gudem conducted a training programme in the adopted village Venkataramannagudem on “Use of farm machinery in paddy” and demonstrated use of transplanter in red sandy soils and weed management through chemicals was explained on 22.06.2016 at “Rural Samadhana Kendra” and it was proposed to procure one paddy transplanter by Venkatarama Rythu club for use on hire basis. A training programme on “Production technology of horticultural crops and Plant protection in Horticulture crops” was conducted on 27.06.2016 by Director of Extension at KVK, Venkataramannagudem to 40 farmers from Chittoor and Anantapur districts. A visit to the demonstration units in the university campus was also taken up. A Training programme on “Importance of soil health for crop produc-tion” at Jeelugumilli village was organized by KVK, Venkataramanna-gudem in association with PARD and Seva NGOs and explained about the importance of soil analysis and interpretation of soil test results to tribal farmers followed by distribution of soil health cards on 28.06.2016. Training and demonstration on “Improved pulse production technol-ogy” was conducted on 30.6.2016 at KVK, Venkataramannagudem and 25 farmers from Venkataramannagudem, Telikicharla, Chodavaram and Vellamilli participated to learn about seed treatment, use of bio fertilizers and weedicides in pulse crops i.e redgram and greengram. After the training, seed of improved varieties viz. red gram LRG-41 and BSMR-739 and green gram WGG-42 and LGG-460 was distributed to the farmers under NFSM-Cluster Frontline Demonstrations Programme.

General Visitors Hon’ble Jacob Kwiyasuk, Member of Parliament, Republic of South Sudan visited Horticultural College & Research Institute, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Horticultural Research Station at Venkataramannagudem on 22.06.2016. Later the M. P met with Dr. B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-Chancellor and discussed about possibility of sending some farmers from their country to the University Guest lecture Dr P. D. Kamala Jayanthi, Principal Scientist & ICAR National Fellow, IIHR, Bengaluru visited HC & RI, V.R. Gudem as a member of student advisory committee and delivered a guest lecture on “Ecological Chemistry of In-sect-Plant Interactions” for the benefit of staff and students on 29.06.2016.
