12 Disney Live-Action Remakes Poised for Box Office Magic

Beauty and the Beast
Disney's Beauty and the Beast remake opens March 17, 2017 and has a good chance of being one of next year's biggest films.

Mulan
Disney's live-action update on its 1998 film Mulan is set to hit theaters on November 2, 2018. Look for the film to do huge numbers in China.

The Little Mermaid
A remake of The Little Mermaid is in the works. Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda will write songs for the project, and the film is likely to be a huge hit.

The Lion King
Disney is developing a remake of one of the biggest animated hits of all time, The Lion King. John Favreau, who helmed the company's hugely successful remake of The Jungle Book, is set to direct. The film will use real-world settings and computer-generated characters.

Tim Burton is attached to direct the live-action re-imagining of Disney's 1941 animated classic Dumbo.

Rose Red
Disney is going the unconventional route with its new take on Snow White. The movie will follow Snow White's sister Rose Red as she works with the seven dwarfs to free her sibling from the clutches of a curse.

Director Guy Ritchie is signed on to helm Disney's updated take on Aladdin. A spin-off film built around the Genie character originally voiced by Robin Williams is also in the works.

The Sword and the Stone
Disney is working on a live-action remake of its take on the classic King Arthur story, The Sword and the Stone. The script is being penned by Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman.

Pinocchio
Not much is known about Disney's upcoming Pinocchio remake, but Time Warner is working with Robert Downey Jr. on its own live-action take on the Pinocchio story – so there could be some competition between the two projects.
