Basis
EN 13830 : 2003-09 Curtain walling – Product standard
Minimum requirements for per-formance characteristics as per ift -Certification Scheme for Curtain Walling (QM329)
ift -Product Passport 100 27203/1-0.6 dated 30 July 2012
Instructions for use
The ift product passport dem-onstrates the general perform-ance of the designated product family – determined on the ba-sis of testing, calculation or as-sessment.
The values / classes indicated refer both to the specific ob-jects described in the individual evidence and the scope of ap-plication defined by the ift product passport.
Implementation of the per-formance characteristics is subject to national technical regulations.
This product passport forms the basis for issuing the ift Certificate of Conformity which documents conformity of the end products and of factory production control by regular third party control of the manu-facturer by the ift Rosenheim.
Notes on publication
The ift -Guidance Sheet “Con-ditions and Guidance for the Use of ift Test Documents" applies.

4 Performance characteristics according to the prod uct standard
Depending on the intended use and on the national requirements for curtain walling, initial type testing will be required for the characteristics listed in the product standard EN 13830, Clause 4 that may consist of testing, calculation or assessment. The following summarizes the relevant evidence of the product family for all performance charac-teristics according to Clause 4 of the product standard. Superscripts are explained in para-graph 6. 4.1 Resistance to wind load (see EN 13830, Clause 4.1)
When tested according to EN 12179, curtain walling shall meet the performance requirements when exposed to positive and negative pressures as set out by EN 13116. The wind loads used for testing are based on Eurocode 1 EN 1991-1-4. Maximum frontal deflection of the curtain wall's framing members exposed to the design load shall not exceed L/200 or 15 mm, whichever is the less.

4.2 Dead load (self-weight) (see EN 13830, Clause 4.2)
The curtain walling shall sustain its self-weight plus any attachments (e.g. solar shading devices, service balconies, etc.) incorporated into it by original design. The loads shall be transferred safely to the building structure via the fixings intended for that purpose. Dead load (self-weights) shall be determined in accordance with EN 1991-1-1. Evidence of rigidity is provided by structural evidence (certificate) or by type-specific structural certifi-cate. Maximum deflection of any main horizontal framing caused by vertical loads shall not exceed L/500 or 3 mm, whichever is the less. This characteristic shall be demonstrated for the purpose-designed system. 4.3 Impact resistance (see EN 13830, Clause 4.3)
Impact resistance of mullions, sills, transoms, panels and mullion/transom intersections shall be determined in accordance with EN 12600, Section 5. The results shall be classified as per EN 14019. Glass products shall be in conformity to EN 12600. The referenced evidence and ex-pert statements do not apply to safety barrier glazing systems. Here the provisions laid down in the TRAV (Technische Regeln für die Verwendung von absturzsichernden Verglasungen - "Technical rules for the use of safety barrier glazing systems") are applicable.

6 Special instructions for use
The special instructions for use listed in the following are rules for the implementation of the dif-ferent performance characteristics specified by the standard. They are based on the normative provisions and the experience of the ift Rosenheim. As set out by the product standard the manufacturer is responsible for ensuring conformity to the declared characteristics. The overview given in this product passport is based on the evidence provided. No legal claim can be derived from this. Super-scripts
(1) The characteristics identified (classifications) apply to curtain walling ranging from a vertical position to 15° from the vertical (interna lly and externally), onto the building face.
(2) Mullion and transom connectors shall be classified separately on the basis of struc-tural or empirical concepts.
(3) The structural properties of thermal-break profiles shall be taken into account. (4) Maximum frontal deflection of the curtain wailing’s framing members shall not exceed
l/200 and/or 15 mm. (5) Insert units (windows and doors) require classification of performance according to
EN 14351-1. (6) Infill panels shall be dimensioned according to the relevant regulations; in Germany
the following standards and regulations apply in particular • DIN 1055-4, Design Loads of Buildings, live loads, wind loads of vibration-
resistant buildings. • Technical rules for glazing systems with linear support. • Technical rules for safety barrier glazing systems
(7) Durability of the performance characteristics of the curtain walling was not verified. It shall be ensured for the specified service life of the product by using appropriate state of the art materials and finishes.
(8) Connection of the curtain wall to the building structure shall ensure durable load transmission. Design of the connection to the building structure shall be airtight. Absence of condensation shall be ensured based on the national provisions.
(9) Additional requirements may arise referring to: • Burglar resistance • Bullet resistance, • Flanking sound insulation, • Explosion/blast resistance • Bullet resistance • etc.
(10) The referenced national technical approval applies only to the use of T-cleats. The loadbearing capacity and the characteristics in terms of building physics and fire resistance of the facade construction as such are not subject of the referenced na-tional technical approval.
