THE BAND

Set in farm country outside the town of Claremore, Indian Territory, in 1906, OKLAHOMA! tells

the story of farm girl Laurey Williams and her courtship by two rival suitors, cowboy Curly McLain

and the sinister and frightening farmhand Jud Fry. A secondary romance concerns cowboy Will

Parker and his flirtatious fiancée, Ado Annie.

OKLAHOMA! is the first musical written by composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar

Hammerstein II. The musical is based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs and

was originally choreographed by Agnes de Mille. The original production, which premiered

on Broadway in 1943, is largely credited with being the first musical to fully integrate its book,

score, and choreography towards advancing the plot.

the roles and expectations of characters so far removed from anything they know or can relate

too, in such a mature musical. However, I am so immensely proud of the work, research and

the care that this cast has taken to achieve these goals and high expectations set from such a

demanding show.”
