Program Objectives

OACNS hosts the conference to give Oklahoma CNSs a local place to obtain pharm hours. OACNS

invites any neighboring state’s CNSs as well as any other Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

needing Pharmacology hours.

Following completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Identify disease management and evidenced-based practice to use in care of a wide range of

disease processes such as cardiology, neurology, urology, acute and chronic disease

processes.

• Discuss updates in pharmacology related to management of selected medical & mental health

disorders.

• Describe the role of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in prescribing medications in

acute and chronic conditions.

Speakers: Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Pharmacists and Physicians will be sharing their

expertise with the participants.

Pharmacology Hours: Maximum of 16 pharmacology hours possible per participant. We have applied for approval from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing for 16 Total Pharmacology Hours Level B continuing education category. Nurses wishing to take this course for the purpose of renewal of prescriptive authority recognition are reminded that any pharmacotherapeutic courses for continuing education credit must be relevant to their scope of practice. Contact Hours: INTEGRIS Health is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s commission on accreditation. This activity has been provided through INTEGRIS Health for 13.45 contact hours if all sessions are attended, and up to 1.5 contact hours for attending the 6 poster presentations.

Speaker’s Bios

Diana Webber, DNP, APRN-CNP: Dr. Webber has extensive experience as a Registered Nurse

and, in the last 12 years, as a Family Nurse Practitioner and nursing educator. She has had

clinical advanced practice nursing experience in general pediatrics, women’s health, and adult

primary care. She is fluently bilingual in Spanish; and she has founded and now manages an all-

volunteer staffed, free primary care clinic for uninsured persons in southeast Oklahoma. She

currently works on an occasional basis in a Latino pediatric clinic and serves as a part-time

clinical professor in the OU Family Nurse Practitioner program. One of her passions is to serve

as a volunteer health care provider in international, cross-cultural settings.

Samantha Bellinger, APRN, FNP-c, CNP: Samantha is a nurse practitioner and has been

closely working in pulmonary medicine alongside Dr. Dennis Parker for the last 3 years. She has

evaluated and treated patients across the lifespan with refractory asthma, eosinophilic

pneumonia, severe chronic obstructive lung disease and asthma COPD overlap syndrome, to

name a few. Prior to transitioning to the Advanced Practice nursing role, she was a pediatric

intensive care registered nurse. She has experience in extra corporeal membrane oxygenation

(ECMO), oscillatory and mechanical ventilation, severe refractory asthma care and is adept at

caring for the most critically ill children and adults.

Toni Horton, MSN, APRN-CNS: Toni has been in nursing since 1994. She is a Clinical Nurse

Specialist who specializes in nephrology and diabetes at the VA Medical Center in OKC. She

completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing at the

University of Oklahoma. She holds a national board certification with the American Association

of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) as an Acute Care Clinical Nurse Specialist. She enjoys

traveling around the country with her husband and spending lots of time with her 4-year-old

grandson and her 2 Chihuahuas.

Vonya Nicole Streetz, Pharm D: Vonya received her undergraduate education and Doctor of

Pharmacy degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford,

Oklahoma. She graduated in 2017 and is currently completing a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice

Residency at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. Her practice interests include pediatrics,

emergency medicine and infectious disease. In her free time, Vonya enjoys reading, baking and

being an Iditarod super fan.

Christopher Webber APRN-CNP: Christopher Webber is a Family Nurse Practitioner

employed at Oklahoma Heart Institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He completed a bachelor degree in

nursing from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma in 2009, and he graduated from

University of Oklahoma Health Science Center with a Master’s Degree in Nursing in

2015. After passing the AANP Family Nurse Practitioner certification he began practicing in

primary care until November 2016 when he then began working at the Oklahoma Heart

Institute. His practice environment is 50% clinic and 50% hospital, and he works primarily with

a busy cardiac electrophysiology group.

Kristy Baker, MS, APRN-CNP, ANP: Kristy is an Adult Nurse Practitioner with INTEGRIS

Medical Group. Mrs. Baker received her BSN from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in

1993, an MS as a nurse educator from the University of Oklahoma in 2003, a post-masters

certificate in Chronic Heart Failure from the University of Southern Indiana in 2004 and a post-

master’s certificate as an Adult Nurse Practitioner from St. Louis University in 2005. She is a

2014-2015 fellow of the Duke – Johnson & Johnson Nurse Leadership Program. She leads a

rural primary care practice in Clinton, Oklahoma where she specializes in diabetes and heart

disease. Previously she owned her own practice for 10 years before joining

INTEGRIS. Currently she serves as a board member of the Oklahoma Physician

Research/Resource Network and is involved in several research projects including serving as an

Academic Detailer for Healthy Hearts for Oklahoma and developing telemedicine access for

diabetes care in rural Oklahoma. She recently developed and published a job description

supporting RNs as primary care coordinators in the emerging medical home model as a

fulfillment for her Duke Fellowship and is delighted to have been contacted from organizations

across the United States who plan to implement this project. She makes her home in Arapaho,

Oklahoma with her husband Jeff and they have one daughter, Emily. Kristy enjoys cooking and

gardening in her spare time and is an active member of First Christian Church of Clinton,

Oklahoma.

Madison Murphy, Pharm D: Madison is a Postgraduate Year One Pharmacy Resident at

INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. She received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from

Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy in May of 2017 and became an

Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy licensed pharmacist in July of 2017. She began her

residency at INTEGRIS Baptist in June of 2017 and will conclude her residency year in June of

2018. She plans to continue her education and training through a Postgraduate Year Two

Pharmacy Residency in Oncology.

Candace Becker, APRN-CNS, Rx, BC: Candace Becker is a has been a Clinical Nurse

Specialist since 2002. In that time, most of her experience has been in cardiovascular disease

and heart failure. She has been a member of OACNS since its start, except for 3 years while

living in Wyoming.

Susan George, DNP, APRN-ACNP, CCNS: Susan is an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and

Certified Critical Care CNS. She has been an employee of INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center

since 1992, fulfilling various roles of increasing responsibility. She currently serves as a heart

failure/mechanical circulatory support NP. In 2016, she was published twice in Dimensions of

Critical Care Nursing with articles about reducing surgical site infections and integrating

palliative care in an advanced heart failure program. She is also a Certified Heart Failure Nurse

and has obtained her Cardiac Medicine Certification.

Stephanie Mowdy, APRN-CNS, CWOCN, CDE, CFCN: Stephanie is certified Clinical Nurse

Specialist who received her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the Oklahoma City University

Kramer School of Nursing in 2017. She received her Masters in Nursing as a Clinical Nurse

Specialist and became certified as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in 2008. Stephanie moved to

Oklahoma in 1987 and began practice at Valley View Regional Hospital. She holds

certifications as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, CWOCN (Certified Wound Ostomy and Continence

Nurse), CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator), and CFCN (Certified Foot Care Nurse). After

practicing in for 10 years in critical care, Stephanie began her practice in the field of wound care,

and now practices at Mercy Hospital Ada as and APRN, caring for both inpatients and

outpatients with advanced wound care needs.

Debbi McCullock DNP, MS, APRN-CNP, RN-BC: Debbi is a Family Nurse Practitioner. As

an RN since 1987, and a Family Nurse Practitioner since 2005, her passion has been to care for

the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families. Her work and

professional volunteer experience ranges from providing primary care in a free clinic for the

homeless to end-of-life care in a state of the art facility. Also, disaster care in post-hurricane New

Orleans and post-earthquake Port au Prince, and most recently opioid addicted patients in

Oklahoma City. Her education includes a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University

of Alabama at Birmingham, a Master of Nursing degree from the University of Oklahoma, a

Bachelor of Nursing degree from Southern Nazarene University and a Certificate of Global

Health from Sparkman Center for Global Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Coussens, Caroline APRN-CNS: Caroline was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She

came to Oklahoma to attend Oral Roberts University where she met her husband Brent (of

almost 34 years) and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She earned a Master of

Science degree in nursing as a Clinical Nurse Secialist from the University of Oklahoma. She is

certified by the ANCC in Adult Health. She assumed her entire career would be specialized in

Oncology, but this would not be the case. In the year 2001, she left her career in Oncology to

embark on an incredible adventure – to start a free clinic for the uninsured in one of the neediest

areas in the city of Tulsa. Seventeen years and thousands of patients later, The Tulsa Dream

Center Medical Clinic continues to serve the uninsured adult population of North Tulsa.

Caroline is married, has 3 children and 5 grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with her

growing family.

Stephanie R. Moore, DNP, APRN, ACNS-BC: Stephanie is a Clinical Nurse

Specialist certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She earned a Doctorate of

Nursing Practice from Oklahoma City University, a Master of Science in Nursing degree as an

Acute Care Clinical Nurse Specialist from the University of Oklahoma, and a Bachelor of

Science in Nursing degree from East Central University. Stephanie has a diverse career as a CNS

serving in nursing roles at hospitals in the Oklahoma and Kansas areas and as a faculty member

at the University of Oklahoma. Her service includes membership on committees for Nursing

Leadership, Academic Affairs, learning system management, continued education public service,

and the Kansas State Board of Nursing Practice committee. Currently, she serves as the Director

for the Cancer Survivorship Support Program at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. She is a

member of the Cancer Committee, the Breast Center of Excellence Leadership Board, a board

member for the Oklahoma Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, and a member of the

NACNS Affiliate Committee. Moore is married to her high school sweetheart and they have 2

daughters. She enjoys spending time with her family and going to school activities in her

hometown of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. In addition, she volunteers as a Girl Scout leader in her

community and mentors young women in her church. In her spare time, she loves to knit!

Shiphrah Williams-Evans, PhD, PMHNP, BC, APRN-FNP, BC: Dr. Williams-Evans has

been an Advanced Practice Nurse since 1996. She first practiced as a Family Nurse Practitioner

in a rural health clinic in the Mississippi. She also was instrumental in developing the first FNP

Program in the Mississippi Delta. She became certified as a PMHNP in 2007. She has worked in

inpatient and outpatient areas with the mental health population, including state facilities. She

has recently taken the lead on the need for use of Board Certified PMHNP rather than other NPs

who may want to work in this area in the state of Georgia, but are not specifically trained in the

area of mental health care. She has worked in academia since the 80s and currently works in an

online PMHNP program.

Brandy Burgess, APRN-CNS, RN-MSN: Brandy Burgess has been passionate about health

care her whole life. It started by helping her grandmother take care of her Nanny which

translated into a lifelong love of nursing and gave her the drive to achieve her Advanced Practice

Nursing Degree. She started out as a nursing assistant, then was an LPN, then an RN and now an

ARPN-CNS. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center College of

Nursing in 2016 with her Master's degree as an Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse

Specialist. She is exceptionally proud of the goals she has achieved and the opportunities she

has experienced so far. While the greater part of her career has been in critical care and

pulmonology, which are her greatest passions, she has had the pleasure of working in many areas

including intermediate care facilities, long-term acute care, home health, hospice, case

management, physician offices, and as an educator. After more than 20 years of nursing, she is

still excited to witness the patience, understanding, caring, and empathy that is expressed every

day from those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.

Linda A. Hershey, MD, PhD: Dr. Hershey, Professor of Neurology, OU College of

Medicine

Dr. Hershey grew up in Indiana. After earning the MD and PhD (neurobiology) degrees

at Washington University in St. Louis, she stayed on to complete the Neurology

Residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. She and her husband moved to Rochester, NY

in 1978, where she completed a 2-yr Clinical Pharmacology Fellowship at Strong

Memorial Hospital. This fellowship gave her the skills she needed to become the PI in

many clinical trials in stroke, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. After being the

Chief of Neurology at the Buffalo VA x 24 years, she came to OU Physicians to set up

the Dementia Clinic and was soon appointed the Neurology Program Director x 4 yrs.

Even though Dr. Hershey is now retired from practice, she is still active in collaborating

with several advanced practice nurses at OU, in the OKC community and at the

American Academy of Neurology.

Erin Lucie, DNP, APRN, FNP-C: Erin’s passion is for health promotion and disease

prevention with an emphasis bio-identical hormone replacement therapy and anti-aging

medicine. She is an Oklahoma native, a family nurse practitioner and licensed

cosmetologist with over 15 years’ experience in the aesthetic industry. Erin started her

career in a medical spa in Stillwater, OK where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts from

Oklahoma State University. Erin wanted to focus on furthering her career in wellness and

obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) from The University of Oklahoma

Health Sciences Center, and later her Master’s and Doctorates in Nursing from the

University of South Alabama. Erin was featured weekly on the The Dr. Lucie Radio

show, where she taught listeners all about health with a comprehensive approach to

wellness.
