RECAP OF RECAP OF FISH ‘N CHIPSFISH ‘N CHIPS The Florida Marlins Community Foundation (FMCF) hosted its 3rd Annual Fish ‘N Chips Casino Party presented by Fox Sports Florida at The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club. The event raised $45,000 to benefit the Florida Marlins Community Foundation’s Cornerstones for Kids programs and the Sun Sentinel Children’s Fund. Event co-chairs Fredi Gonzalez, Hanley

Ramirez and Jeff Conine were joined by coaches, players and an elite group of community leaders, celebrities and socialites for an evening of fun and stakes at the Craps, Blackjack, Roulette and Poker tables. A lush rose petal filled table with floating candle lights and orange rose pillars with baseballs seated on top, along with the tropical sounds of island music, Billy the Marlin and the Mermaids greeted guests as they entered the resort. The evening featured an array of hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants, cocktails, music, a silent auction filled with exciting items and a Tiffany & Co. “Mystery Box” wall.

Guests entered the The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club while gazing at a waterfall setting.

FMCF CONTINUES TO FUND GRANTS FORFMCF CONTINUES TO FUND GRANTS FOR EDUCATIONEDUCATION, , THE ARTS THE ARTS AND AND YOUTH BASEBALLYOUTH BASEBALL

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DOTHANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO

The last date to submit a 2009 grant application is October 31 and must be accompanied with proper documentation representing your non-profit organization. Visit cornerstones4kids.com for information or email [email protected] for more details. Examples of some of organi-zations who received grants included: educational tutoring assistance programs, enhancement of museum exhibitions and a youth baseball league for children with disabilities.

During the recent homestand from August 25-September 3, the FMCF contributed a total of $31,500 to the American Red Cross, Joe Dimaggio’s Children Hospital, Florida State League, United Cerebral Palsy and St. Thomas University. These donations are built upon long-term partnerships between the FMCF and the various local organizations. The photograph to the left was taken on August 30 during a pre-game check presentation. Nancy Olson, FMCF Executive Director, Fredi Gonzalez, Marlins Manager, and scholarship recipients from the Florida State League enjoyed the special occasion.

“It is because of the funds received from your grant program that we were able to help so many children have a great field trip experience here at the Resource Depot. Over the 8 week period we hosted 20 Field trips serving over 550 chil-dren from summer camps through-out the Palm Beach area...We thank you for this great program and for supporting our efforts at the Re-source depot of educating children about our environment and teach-ing: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.” Carolyn Vickey, Executive Director, Resource Depot

“Thank you so much for the FMCF’s wonderful support of The Roxy Theatre Group! We had a very success-ful summer with the reprise presentation of our musical production "West Side Story," our summer camp show and various other activities. Our 10-week performing arts summer camp, featured 306 campers ages 5-17...Additionally, our organization implemented an academic class to our most recent summer camp pro-gram to great success!”Susanne Pinedo, Communications Director, The Roxy Theatre Group, Miami.

“Thank You very much on behalf of the North Miami Little League. The All-Star team was the Florida District 8 Champions.”

As we wrap up the 2009 regular season, we cannot help but reflect on another great year of giving back to the South Florida community. We simply could not do it without our donors and volunteers. The Foundation has been pleasantly surprised in what we all know is a difficult economy. However, our fans and sponsors have not let us down. The Fox Sports Florida Fantasy Auction brought in over $30,000 more than in 2008. Of course, those extra innings and a Marlins win helped! Then there were the employees at the South Florida Jiffy Lube Stores who presented us a check for over $31,000! Fish ‘N Chips moved to a new venue. Our co-chairs, Fredi Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez and Jeff Conine, plus a fabulous host committee helped us more than quadruple our net from 2008! We cannot forget our volunteers. Yvonne Ortiz who works at Mount Sinai during the week is at every Sunday game giving out prizes at the wheel. Paulette Tucker is our champion when it comes to selling Super Saturday Raffle tickets. Steve Eckstein won’t leave the pool at Friday Nights Are Fun until the last grab bag is sold. When you put all of this together, you have a group of fans, sponsors and volunteers who enjoy Marlins baseball and helping us help the community! Thanks South Florida!

On September 8, donors Kevin Runner, Judie Gibson and Mark and Bryan Sette visited Citi Field in New

York by winning a Fantasy Auction experience. They enjoyed an unforgettable time with the Marlins including watching batting practice.
