2014 APPROVED PARADE LIST

Greetings Nobles and Ladies – THE CIRCUS IS COMING!The time has come to begin preparing for

the Midian Shrine Circus to be held at Hartman Arena on February 13, 14, & 15, 2015.

MidianShrineCircus.com is up and run-ning and our Facebook page of https://www.

facebook.com/MidianShrineCircus is active as we ramp-up to the 2015 Circus. If you have a Facebook account, please go to https://www.facebook.

com/MidianShrineCircus and LIKE that page and SHARE it as well as any posts that show up there. In today’s society, here are literally MILLIONS of Facebook users and this is a way we can reach them!

Our 2015 Circus Acts will be brought to us once again by Hamid Circus, Inc. I have spoken to Noble Jim Hamid (did you know he was a Shriner too?) and he is currently in final negotiations to round out a fantastic slate of performers for our Circus. At this time, we know we’ll have a new Elephant and Tiger act and, potentially, a high-wire trapeze act of the highest quality! Johnny Rocket is also scheduled to return this year with new, exciting routines! Johnny is a perennial crowd favorite and always takes time to stop and sign autographs and pose for photos with our Circus patrons.

The launch meeting for the Circus was held on September 29th in the Mecca Room where we discussed the TEAM concept of selling Circus for 2015 and the Sales Goals for the upcoming year.

A major change for this year is that we need ALL Unit and Club Heads as well as the Circus Chairman attending the Circus Meetings to be actively involved in selling Circus. Also, please note that ALL Circus Nobility meetings are open to ALL members of the nobility! Come join us!

At this time, Lady Lesa Ogden is currently gathering names of volunteers for Cotton Candy Creation. If any ladies (OR NOBLES) can help with this, she would be happy to get you signed up for volunteering for this important work for the Circus. Our Ladies do an AWESOME job of creating the Cotton Candy – one of our largest revenue points each year for the Circus.

Your Unit and Club Heads and Circus Chairmen have the advertising lists in-hand at this point and should be actively pursuing Circus Advertising Sales including Program Ads and Banner Sales. This year we have some very attractive Corporate Advertising Packages as well. Circus Tickets and Advertising CONTINUES to be a major potential revenue stream for your Unit or Club. Some units and clubs make several thousand dollars each year by selling Circus tickets and advertising. I encourage you to not miss the opportunity to make some big commission bucks for your unit or club!

Ms. Dawn Richards, our Circus Office Leader, will be able to assist you in checking out tickets for units, clubs, and unaffiliated nobles and receiving your advertising and ticket sales revenues. Tracy Dahl, Midian’s Operations Coordinator, will help you at Midian’s front desk as well.

Nobles, I would like to personally ask you to please speak with the voice and words of a Noble when dealing with these fine ladies who do so much to help us. Sometimes it gets very stressful in getting vouchers checked out and tickets exchanged. We all must remember to be patient and work TOGETHER AS A TEAM to have a successful Circus.

Our new Assistant Circus Chairman is Noble Dan Cookson, who will be working closely with Circus Chairman Noble Jeremy Woodson for the next two years to transition into the Circus Chairman Position. Everyone who knows Noble Dan, knows that he is a Noble who gets things done and works well with others. Noble Jeremy and Noble Dan will do a GREAT job for Midian as this planned leadership transition begins to take place.

Our Novelties Chairman for 2015 is Noble Mickey West. Ill. Sir John Auch, pp, will return this year as a Circus Advisor for Novelties and Procurement. Lower Floor Operations Chairman Noble Greg Stobart and Upper Floor Operations Chairman Noble Steve Julian will be working with Front Door Operations Chairman Noble Jay Danler to keep everything flowing smoothly regarding crowd control and movement into and through the building. Ill. Sir Ed Day will continue his valuable leadership as we negotiate the final contracts and work through any remaining ticketing issues. Treasurer Noble Bob Bulman will continue his great work with heading up the Accounting and Reconciliation for the Circus and Noble Pierce will be heading up the world-famous Circus break room. Chief Rabban Wayne Wells will be involved in general operations and facilitating a successful Circus for Midian in 2015 while I will head up Advertising and Promotion and assist Noble Wayne with general operations.

Please remember, Midian’s Circus funds the majority of our budget for the following year. It is vitally important that each Noble take responsibility for assisting with fundraising for the circus to keep our building and operations solvent. With each and every Noble’s help working together as a TEAM, we can make this work for Midian!

If you ever have any questions about Circus, or what you can do to help, please ask! No matter what, we ALWAYS have positions to fill to help out at Circus! We need YOU!

Finally, Upcoming meeting dates are as follows: 2014: October 27, November 24, December 29 and 2015: January 26 and February 9. All meetings will be held in the Mecca Room at 7pm. We will furnish beverages for all those in attendance. If there is a change of any kind in the meeting date, location, or time, we will notify all Unit and Club heads. You can check Facebook for informational updates as well.

As a fellow Noble, I ask you to please make time in your schedule to attend these important meetings that determine the financial course for Midian in the future and to please commit to selling some circus vouchers and some advertising. Every little bit each Noble and Lady can do helps our budget!

Wishing You All the Best in 2015 Circus Sales,Bart Ogden, 2014 Midian Shrine Assistant Rabban

As an incentive to grow membership and to reward those Nobles who helped we are offering rewards for your effort. For each member that you Top Line either as a new Noble or as a restoration, you will receive $25 off your 2015 dues. For the second, another $25 off, and for a third, your dues will be paid in their entirety of 2015.

We are at a critical moment for Midian. Unless we as a team work to find new Nobles and restore former Nobles, our membership number is in danger of falling to less than 2000. We need to draw a line in the sand and not let this happen as we fear that if do break this barrier it will only accelerate the decline. Let’s all work together and not let this happen!!

75 members in this process. We need every Noble’s help in making

up these losses. The State of Kansas has one of the lowest percentages of Masons who are Shriners at 35 %. Many states have 75% of their Masons who are Shriners. Most of you know a Mason who is not a Shriner. We need you to ask those people to join our great fraternity. Perhaps you know the son or grandson of a deceased Noble who is not a member. Many of them have fond memories of our fraternity from their youth, yet no one has asked them to join. We need to find these men.

To support your efforts to gain new members we are offering a special member-ship package for Fall Ceremonial. A $199 investment by the new Noble will pay his initiation fee, the balance of his 2014 dues, his 2015 dues, an embroidered fez, and a ticket to the Ladies Fall Ceremonial Luncheon for his lady.

Many of you know or even perhaps were a top liner of a Noble who dropped his membership because of his job, a family conflict or some other legitimate reason other

Midian Shriners Car Show & Swap Meet

Midian Shriners Car Show & Swap Meet, held Sunday, September 14th at Midian Shrine Center. We really worked hard on the “First Annual Midian Shriners Car Show & Swap Meet” at Midian. Several spent many hours dropping our flyers at the various car shows throughout and surrounding areas of Wichita all summer long. We dropped off flyers at the many auto parts store, upholstery shops, glass replacement shops and just about anything that had to fixing a car received a pad of our flyers for advertisement!

It was said that if we registered 75 cars we would be very happy; as it turned out we registered 93 cars for the first car show at Midian Shrine. We also registered 4 swap meet spaces. The weather could not have been better! The weather at the beginning of the show was in the hi 50’s and was in the high 70’s at the close of the show, very little wind but just enough breeze to make the day comfortable! We had two food vendors on site serving some great food items throughout the day too.

The car show had eight fantastic drawing prizes with a value from $79.99 to $1,600.00! Many thanks to the businesses that donated such great drawing prizes for the car show. WE gave away over 55 door prizes through the car show as well and the first 100 cars to register received a “goodie bag” with lots of useful items from pens to scratch pads to seat-belt key chains and lots of valuable information from the state as well. Thanks to those businesses that donated these items as well.

Thanks further to the Aids that were assigned to the car show to set up and to tear down and bring everything back inside the building after the show too! Thanks to the Nobles and their ladies that help in many other positions in the car show from the registration, sales of drawing tickets, t-shirts, silent auction and the computerization of the registration process! Thanks ALL!!!

The one car show entry that stole the show was Gabby and her trainer!! She is a little monkey, literally, a monkey!! The owner and she were really great with the crowd and she, Gabby actually sough donations for our Plane of Mercy in exchange for allowing her photo to be taken with them. Little Ham indeed!

Thanks again for the help, the people that worked hard on the flyer distribution and the ones that had to arrive at the show at 7:00 am too! Thanks!!

Although we do not have the date set in stone for 2015, we are strongly looking at September again. Great weather, not HOT and not Cold either, just right!

Please check page 15 for just a few photos of the many great show cars that entered. Check the Midian Shriners Car Show & Swap Meet out on our Facebook page for the complete photo album!

The Dodge Ci ty Shr ine held their September meeting on Wednesday the 10th at Casey’s Cowtown Club in Dodge City.

I will have to say that for this being September, and the change in the weather and how things are going out in Western Kansas, this was a good turnout. It was a truly good group who came out. The food was great – and the comradeship of fellow Brothers is always a joy to have.

The Dodge City Shrine Circus for 2015 will be held on Saturday, 07th February with 3 performances and Sunday, 08th February with 3 performances which will be at the Dodge City Civic Center. So please put this on your Calendar and mark it for 2015.

The DC Shrine Club will hold their

October - meeting at the Central Station Bar and Grill -

207 East Wyatt Earp, Dodge City, KS 67801. Phone: (620) 225-1176

The meeting for October will be on the 8th which is a Wednesday and at

6:30 pm for social hour and dinner served at 7:00 pm.

People speak of the fear of the blank canvas as though it is a temporary hesita-tion, a trembling moment of self-doubt. For me it was more like being abducted from my bed by a clown, thrust into a circus arena with a wicker chair, and told to tame a pissed-off lion in front of an expectant crowd.

“May All Your Days Be Circus Days.” Have a truly blessed and wonderful month. Good night America wherever you are.

What was that thing with good vibrations any way? Thank you Noble Richard Wentworth for some perfectly smoked pork. Thanks also to Noble J. R. Greenlee and Lady Lori for all the other accoutrements and getting the meal out. Thanks to Lady Beverly and Noble Rocky McWilliams for overall organization. And so many more thanks, Lady Phyllis Brewer tickets and money, all our auction donors, all the providers and workers. Some were unplanned, like Lady Kathie and Noble Bruce Rose who worked the dice toss game. So many other people I know, but though unnamed, we do thank you.

Lady Helen McVay spent some time in the hospital letting the doctors practice their needle-work. Our wishes for a speedy

recovery. If you are planning to send

next years dues in early, remember that next year they will be ten dollars rather than the five that they have

been for as long as I can remember. Twelve post cards per year times thirty-four cents for postage; add card stock and ink and you can see that proceeds from circus sales and fund-raisers have been used to contribute to the information flow.

Halloween is just down the road, signaling time for elections and of course, a Christmas party. So if you want to take on a position in BCSC, let one of the officers know or be present at the October meeting to throw your hat into the ring. Otherwise, plan to party on. The Christmas party is planned for December 13 th once again at Flint Hills Services in El Dorado. Our next meeting is at the Stearman Bar and Grill at the Benton Airport in Benton. See you all there.

What a great group of Nobles and Ladies we had make the trip to CSSA in Tulsa. I’m sure everyone has heard by now, the 3-Wheelers brought home a First Place for Competitive Drill! We had 14 bikes in competition and even though we unloaded in the rain, and pretty much looked like drowned rats, the rain stopped just in time for our competition. Even our friendly rivals, the India Broncos said we looked good and they were compet-ing for second place. Some try to set new speed records in the obstacle course and some take their time and enjoy the scenery along the way. Congratulations to Noble “Fergie” Ferguson for winning this year’s coveted Driving Miss Daisy Award. Two of our Nobles were also recognized for their valiant efforts at the Keystone Kops “roll and chug” event. Nobles Steve Richard and Kelly Wright were awarded a second place at the post CSSA Party. We have a lot of momentum coming off our first “First Place” in several years and are already talking about Denver in ‘15. This month’s picture is the winning team at Tulsa. Thanks to Noble Leroy Moreland and Lady Joyce for all of your leadership this year. The bar has definitely been raised!

The 3-Wheelers also did our duties at Midian’s Car Show at the Temple. All the cars got parked without incident and it was a beautiful day for a car show. The organizer and Emcee for the event was our very own Noble Dave Pate PP and everyone stepped up and helped wherever needed. Maybe we should have put one of the bikes in the show? We could have had another trophy for our case!

With all of the great things that have happened this month, we did have quite a scare with two of our Nobles. Noble Bruce

Detwiler and Noble Paul Hendrickson were involved in

a very serious head-on collision near Towanda. Both were transported to St. Francis hospital in Wichita in serious

condition, and at the time I am writing this Bruce still in the hospital and Paul is getting ready to go home. Noble Bruce is pretty broken up, but his spirits are good. He is looking at a long road to recovery with several broken bones. Both of these Nobles are very lucky that it was not much worse! Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they work through the healing process.

The Black Camel has also been with us. We lost Lady Corky Barg this month after a long illness. Noble Dave Barg and Lady Corky were very active in the Shrine Club over the years and Lady Corky will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Noble Dave and his family.

Work is underway on the Haunted House. This is always a fun time to be a Mason and Shriner as everyone comes together for fun and fellowship, not to mention scaring those that dare to go through the old meat locker door. We will be working on freshening it up on Sunday afternoons and will be open for business on Saturdays, October 18 and 25 also Thursday October 30 and of course Halloween night the 31st. This has become a tradition for the Eureka community as well as a good fund raiser for both the 3-Wheelers and Fidelity Lodge. We need everyone to help out and make this possible!

I’m running out of space, so better wrap it up. Next month we will have Fall Ceremonial and Cattlemen’s Day, which fall on separate Saturdays this year. See you at the Haunted House!

WOW! Did the summer pass in a hurry! At our first meeting in September, we started making plans for the hog roast, October 18. We voted to have camels milk at 4pm and eat at 5pm so the ones that don’t like to drive at night will have clear sailing headed home. Be aware this is a new time. We will have live music before we eat by the Rhythm Masters and after we eat if anyone cares to dance. We are looking forward to a fun filled evening. Bring your lawn chairs as before and enjoy the bon fire and smores.

Breaking news – we were in Tulsa for

CSSA and if you need to know a short cut from Tulsa

to Wichita, Scotty Clark has a way to show you that goes through Oklahoma City!!

We would like to say get well to Bobby Herrman who had an operation on his shoulder and is recouperating . Hope to see him in full swing before long. Till then, stay healthy and see you Sumner County Shrine Club members at the barn clean up at 5pm on October 14.

Pick up a flyer at the front desk at the Shrine for information about the hog roast.

Oriental Band “OUT OF TOWN”Reporter

I start out with bad news this month. The black camel visited Lady Shirley Hale, wife of veteran OB member Noble Alan Hale. Let’s all keep the family in our thoughts and prayers.

On a lighter note Lady Janet Holmes, wife of veteran Noble Larry Holmes is still recovering from the car accident she had in Tulsa but of this writing she is resting at home.

On the way to Tulsa for CSSA, the famous OB Horse’s A award was presented to Noble Topher Zenishek for his famous sleeping on the sidewalk before the CSSA parade last year in Branson. I wonder? Was he just asleep? I wonder will the OB member who was napping on the floor before fantasy competition this year in Tulsa be the recipient next year?

There seems to be three OB members who attend CSSA stag and roomed together who have the most trouble staying awake for all the festivities. The two I talked about above and another who will remain unnamed at the present. They are held in high esteem

by some of us older members wishing we could keep up with their

late night shenanigans!Noble John “Hose” Kasenberg the

chief aide around this place is going in today for surgery to repair a couple of

disks in his back. Hopefully by the time you read this he will be back in the saddle!

CSSA competition in Tulsa was a clean sweep again for Midian OB. It is unfortunate that the number of bands has declined and competition in the size classes is just about a thing of the past! Midian did manage to take the best overall band trophy again this year that any band can win.

The OB’s Meet and Eat get-together for September will be the 30th at Stroud’s, if the get their fire damage fixed by then. One thing the OB does come together for is eating!

CSSA hospitality room is getting out of hand. This year in Tulsa the three stag guys mentioned above were united in” Unholy Matrimony” and given away at the ceremony by their mothers?

Antique Autos members Bob Francis and Randy Edwards were invited to show their cars in the ring of million dollars cars in Century II during BlackTop Nationals this year held August 22nd -24th.

Nobles Wayne Orr, Jerry Elscott, Joe Matthews, Alan Orr, Gary Gelvin, Grant Richecky and Randy Edwards took their cars to C.S.S.A. in Tulsa this year and returned with some trophies for the display case. Congratulations to all who participated. Noble Robert Giesen invited

Noble Fred Booher to ride in his 1916 Detroit Electric Car in

the C.S.S.A. parade. Fred thoroughly enjoyed the ride and chance to converse with his longtime friend. Nobles Kent

Butz and Ray Richecky also made the trip to Tulsa.

Antique Autos will hold their next monthly meeting at Monterrey Mexican Grill on October 6th located at 5905 W. Kellogg Drive. Please bring your Lady and join us. Social at 6:30 p.m. and Dinner at 7:00 p.m. Guests are welcome!

Ambassadors JOHN W. STEWARTMild Mannered Reporter

What a delightful change of pace. In September we gathered at the Double Tree by Hilton (Wichita Air Port) where the food was only exceeded by the good fellowship and fun. Our hosts were Noble Ambassador Larry Kohlman and Lady Sherry Burnett. Now here are some downtown folks who really get around. A good time was had by all. Thank You.

Now th i s i s “ the way” Sh r ine Ambassadors and their ladies should operate. Our Director General Noble Ambassador Al Bass and Lady Retta organized an outing that some hesitated about at first. Remember, if you snooze you lose. This was the case at Walnut. Thirteen are still talking about the fun they had. Included were Noble Ambassador “Gene” Lygrisse, P.O. and Lady Betty, noble Ambassador Les Hostetler, P.O. and Lady Wanda, Noble Ambassador Glenn Holmes and Lady Carol, Noble Ambassador Larry Kohlman and Lady Sherry Burnett, Noble Ambassador Al Bass and Lady Retta, Lady Jan Kelty, Lady Wilma Edwards and Wilma’s friend Rosalie. All reported that it was a “blast”.

This desk just received word that Veteran Ambassador Noble Gene Hutto is in Wesley Hospital following an attack of Parkinsonism and an irregular heart beat. Let’s keep Joann and Gene in our Prayers.

Noble Ambassador Andy Roberts did have his surgery (confirmed) and he is now

home and doing well. He is active in therapy and I’m sure he’ll

be back to full speed soon. Speaking of Therapy….Lady Shirley Stewart is finally out of her “Boot”. Her new

hangout is P-T Plus. She has returned to driving and if anyone sees her, would you please let this reporter know what she is up to. Rewards are based on the seriousness of the news.

If anyone is down or expecting medi-cal attention please call this reporter so everyone else can know and share in what’s going on. (316) 655-0798 and P.O. Box 56, Augusta, KS 67010 is also available.

We didn’t see any Ambassadors at C.S.S.A. and we were looking. One Fez with Ambassador on it was spotted, but it was across the banquet hall. I couldn’t decide if the Noble was a Unit member or an alumnae of one of our Children’s Hospitals. As you know, all former patients of any Shrine Hospital who are active Shrine members are entitled to wear Ambassador on their fez.

The Midian Car Show and Swap Meet was a big success thanks to the efforts of Noble Dave Pate, P.O. and Lady Pat. Our Noble Ambassador Kenny Loffland was the winner of a big trophy. He entered with Lady Billie’s 67’ Chevrolet Camaro. We’re counting on Kenny and Billie hosting our October outing to Yoder for the dinner there that has become a tradition. See you then.

Million Dollar BandIn September, the Polkatz

were gearing up for al l the OktoberFests that require the groups combined talents. At the Topics deadline the oom-pah group had six gigs scheduled with more probable during the month of October.

Looking back at the end of August, at some of our band members’ participation in CSSA, we had a great time. For us it was a gathering of the Central States Shrine Band Association. Six of the Temples were represented in the combined band: Abou Ben Adhem in Springfield, MO whose four delegates included band director, Ron Walker and CSSBA President-Elect, Josh Ritter; Al Kaly in Pueblo, CO represented by CSSBA Secretary, Jay Fink; El Jebel in Denver, CO whose four representatives include newly elected CSSBA President, Mike Trevethan; Kaaba of Davenport. IO had one musician; Midian whose seven players included the twice Past-President of CSSBA, Duane Draving and current

Representative, Rick Milhon; and Tangier in Omaha, NE with

four musicians, including CSSBA Representative, Paul Mason.

Midian Nobles attending were: Duane Draving , c lar inet ; John

Fetherston, flute and piccolo; Jim Malia, bassoon; John Matrow, trombone; Rick Milhon, clarinet; and Finace Taylor, trombone and band wagon puller. Taylor pulled the Million Dollar Band’s Band Wagon to Tulsa. The CSSBA band on the Midian band wagon, representing six temples, happened to get placed right in front of Midian Potentate, Illustrious Sir, Ed Day. Imperial Sir, Jeffrey Sowder, remarked on that as the band wagon re-entered the fairgrounds. We didn’t choose the placement. The Parade Marshal did.

From Wednesday evening through the parade on Saturday, the CSSBA band had two rehearsals, five concerts and the parade. We were ready to go home. Two days later it was back to rehearsals.

Electraglide EliteAs you read this, the final

numbers should be in for Midian Shrine Kids Run…another great suc-cess story for the Electraglide Elite. Math has never been this Reporter’s strong suit, but all indications are that we’ll have another nice check for Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. Captain Steve and Lady Sue send along thank you messages to all and certainly deserve the same from all of us! Treasurer Mark is gathering all the data so that we can get our P & L report together and everybody’s anxious to hear that final number. So many people to thank and you know who you are! We have some t-shirts left over so any help or ideas you can muster on this will be welcome too.

There were a few of us that had a chance to catch some of the antique bikes in the Cannonball Run up at Junction City the same weekend of MSKR. The pic with this article shows Captain Steve and just one of over 100 competitors that stopped at City Cycle HD for a day of rest and repairs. They took over the basement there at the Harley Store for everything from tire changes to complete engine rebuilds and had to be ready to go the next morning at 8:00 AM! There wasn’t much English being spoken there with teams from Italy, Spain, South Africa, Germany, Japan, Netherlands and on and on. Imagine

chauffeuring a 1917 Guzzi exposed pushrods and gear train,

slinging oil and corruption everywhere from Daytona, Florida to Seattle, Washington (about as close as you can

get to 4,000 miles) in two weeks! It takes two saddles…one for the rider and one for his pair of…well you know. Hey…EE could do this you know. SHC might even sponsor just for the visibility. Squint and you’ll be able to see it, Deano standing up in the seat like Indian Larry, on a pre-war twin with a semi-tractor-trailer load of parts following along behind moping up the oil. It’s history in the making I’m tellin’ ya’!

OK, back to the serious stuff – If you weren’t there, EE welcomed a new Member at the September Meeting. Noble Bob Miller joined us. Several Members know and have ridden with Bob and live to tell about it. Bob was created a Noble in 1972 and rides a Tri-Glide. His name is now placed among the Royal Family of (and truly gifted) Members of Electraglide Elite. Never has he received more light! Welcome Brother! Captain Steve calls on us all to look for more good men that we can share this experience with.

So for now will close with a few requests, attend meetings, parade when you can, ride safe and save your empties…it’s going to rain money!

I’m sure there will be numerous stories told around

Arab PatrolWell, CSSA is over but not

without some good results. To start off, Brian West was a last minute addition to make up the foursome from Midian that included Foster Smith, Larry Tomes and myself in the CSSA Golf Tournament that was held at Mohawk Park - Woodbine Course on Thursday morning. On the par 3, 165 yard, 17th hole, Brian let loose with a line drive hit that bounded its way along the left side of the fairway only to bounce right a couple of times and roll up to the green and into the cup. Although pictures were taken and posted on Facebook, Brian does not have any proof that he made the hole in one….he does not have the BALL. He lost it on the next hole. Soooo, does it still count as a hole in one? And the debate rages on. What amazes me is that this is the second hole in one that I have witnessed this year. What are the odds for that? The hole in one must have been an omen of more good things to come as the Patrol not only took first in the Drill Competition but also took first overall to win the traveling trophy. The luck ran out as we finished second in parade but all in all a very productive weekend. Again special thanks to Larry Tomes and Lady Michelle

for hauling all the stuff for the Hospitality Room. Also thanks to

Jay Danler, Greg Barley, and Steve Travis for manning the Hospitality Room. Many thanks go to the Patrol

Ladies for making the snacks that resulted in very little, if any, that was brought back to Wichita. And special thanks to the not only the patrolmen that participated in the competition but also those of you that came out to practice and filled in the empty slots for those not able to make practice. I also want to thank those that attended the Post-CSSA party. The Patrol had a very good turnout with Larry Tomes, Jay Danler, Steve Travis, Past Captain Dick Simpson, Ron Fisher, Joel Westbrook, Mark McClain, Greg Barley, and I with our Ladies. Patrolman Brian West missed the parade Saturday as Amber’s grandmother was admitted to the hospital. Unfortunately, she passed away shortly after that. Thoughts, prayers and condolences from the Patrol to the family. Upcoming Patrol events include Arkalalah Parade in Arkansas City (10/25), Halloween Party (10/25), Fall Ceremonial (11/8) and the Patrol Christmas Party (12/13). Until next time, Keep In Step!

Keystone Kops “MOON”Reporter

We’re back. Yes, your favorite Keystone Kops are back. We barely made it out of Tulsa after all the fun we had down there. I know you have heard me repeat the phrase “Party on Dude” and I will tell you that had to be our theme down there. Starting with our CSSAKK meeting and riding back from it in the OB bus, then onto the hospitality rooms, we got a real kick start to a weekend full of laughs. There was the Chief’s banquet on Friday night where Woody got his Gold Whistle and a toast that followed a delicious meal he and Lady Tina had picked out. Next up was a great bus trip into downtown Tulsa for our awards banquet after having a cham-pagne toast in our hospitality room. While there we picked up all the red solo cups we could carry and headed back to our hotel to celebrate another year of being the CSSAKK Top Kops!! To complete our journey the Elk and Greenwood County Shriners stopped by (actually Jim Cross leaped into our midst over the pool area wall) with their Ladies and out of nowhere Elk County started dropping “car bombs” on us in our hospitality room. Those things can make you mighty foggy come Sunday morning as one of our members took a” short cut” through Oklahoma City to get back to Wichita! All of this going on around all the competitions made for an awesome weekend for us Koppers! But not to forget, us Koppers held our now annual “roll and chug” contest Saturday night. Once again the Kops, Isaac McCann & Gabe Keplar, took home the first place trophy! Way to go Koppers! There was a little groaning from the OB about that outcome but were overruled by the judges. A pair of roll and chuggers from Greenwood County came in as runner up to the Kop first place performance. Next year we’ll be in the Colorado Mountains, so the

rolling part should be at a much faster pace. I can’t wait. I would

like to thank all our Ladies for helping us get all of this done and back home again. They made signs, sewed jackets,

made food, sold t-shirts, and tucked us all in bed at night so we could make all the competitions. It was a three day recovery period for this ole guy, but I really love it! Oh, for you Elk County Ladies, I have measured all the Kopettes and they are not all under five foot five! Ha, ha! The rest of the stories from CSSA will stay in Tulsa. You just have to be there to see and be involved with them all. The pictures I have posted in the Topics are of “Mr. Wiggly” who we used in our skit. Unfortunately in the second picture he found out third place in the skit was just not acceptable to us Kop!

I must let you know about our upcoming Kop Birthday Party Celebrations. Scotty, Doc Jon and Moon all turn seventy five this month so we will be a celebrating how good we look for 75 on October 10th. It will be held in the usual location as those before, so see any Kop for a ticket or you can buy your way in at the door. The last one was a really good one, so don’t miss out on this one. See you all there. Oh, I know Bob Dukes has a birthday the same day I do, but he doesn’t really look that good, so he will just be celebrating with his monkey, all alone.

I Wonder?? Is this true Turf, monkey see, monkey do?? I Wonder?? Next year “blue solo cups?” I Wonder?? How do you get to Wichita from Tulsa via Oklahoma City?? I Wonder?? Does this finally explain the boat hitch incident (unhooked) going to Table Rock from years back?? I Wonder?? Will the Motor Patrol recover from their huge monetary loss from their hospitality room?? I Wonder??

Directors Staff MIKE WARDReporter

Directors Staff Socia l Reminder: the Annual Hot Dog Feed has been rescheduled one day later, the New Date is Sunday, October 19th, 2014. It will be held at the same place as last year near 53rd and Woodlawn. Hot Dogs, Pop, Chili, and a fire for roasting will be provided, plan on bringing a side, table service, and a lawn chair. We will send out the exact address as the event approaches.

It is almost upon us! Ceremonial is fast approaching. We need all hands on deck to continue to give the new nobles an experience they will never forget. If you are a Directors Staff member and need something to do for Ceremonial, contact one of the officers or the Ceremonial Director and there is surely

something that can be ar-ranged. We can always use all the help we can get so we

continue at the level of excellence Midian is known for. However, don’t forget the most important part of Ceremonial; Membership, Membership, Membership.

It is also time to start thinking about SDA (Shrine Directors Association). The 2015 SDA Convention will be hosted by Alee Shrine Center in Savannah, Georgia, April 15-17, 2015. Don’t miss out on this annual Shrine Directors event/competition that is a shocking, exhilarating good time. Get a hold of Fred Smith, Midian’s Ceremonial Director, for more information if you are interested in attending.

Midian Classics CLIFF PREMER Reporter

The Classics had a great time in Tulsa at CSSA. Nobles Cliff Premer, Jim Groff, Gary Harris, Bob Fox, Bob Giesen, John Stewart, Bob Griffith, Gene Alexander and their ladies were in attendance. Out of this group we had six who competed in the Show Car competition where we won a 2nd place trophy in the Antique Car division and a 3rd place trophy in the Sports Car division. While in Tulsa we headed to Spudders Restaurant on Thursday evening where we took in some of the oil drilling history while eating some tasty steaks and having a great time hanging out with each other.

Many of the Classics have been busy attending some local car shows and taking home some personal trophies. In August at Blacktop Nationals we had three of Midian Classics best in attendance. Noble Bob Giesen had his Detroit Electric front and center in the Million Dollar Car Show area. Bob had a video going showing the restoration process and some interesting tidbits about his unique electric car. While Bob was inside staying nice and cool, Nobles Jim Groff and John Stewart were outside basking (or maybe that was baking) in the sun. John had his Nash on display and Jim had his 31 Ford Vicky out making its public début . Jim’s Vicky drove away with a Best in Class trophy and $100.

In September several of the Classics were in attendance at the

Midian Shriners Car Show and Swap Meet. Nobles Cliff Premer, Jim Groff, Terry Schrant, Bob Fox and John

Stewart had their cars polished up and looking good. There were about 90 cars in the show with everything from really nice daily drivers to absolutely gorgeous show cars. At the end of the day the Classics picked up their share of the hardware. Terry’s 39 Chevy won Best Midian Shrine Vehicle, Jim’s 31 Ford won Potentate’s Choice and Cliff’s 69 Firebird won Top 25. Thanks to all who showed up to support the car show and the Shriners Hospitals.

Happy birthday wishes to Noble Jim Groff, and Lady Kay Premer. One of the two will be hitting a major mile stone but I’d probably better not say what that is. Just think black balloons and a half century and you’ll get the picture. Happy Anniversary to Noble Bob Fox and Lady Donna and to Noble Terry Schrant and Lady Pam.

Are you interested in Classic Cars? Come join the fun with the Midian Classics. We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in the Pyramid Room at 7:00 PM. If you’re interested in finding out more about the Classics, contact Noble Bob Giesen at 316-721-4178, or stop by during one of our meetings.

One of our Chipper’s, Brian West played in the CSSA Golf Tournament and made a hole in one.

By the time you read this we will have had our end of the year party . The Chippers would like to thank Doc and Teresa for host-ing the party. See you at the meeting.

YoshiWelcome back from CSSA.

Our group hopes that everyone that ventured south had a great time and returned with new trophies. A high note for Yoshi is that we did well and finished third in the routine competition. After a rough start we managed to pull it together and make it look like we knew what we were doing. Congratulations to the first and second place finishers in our competition who have set the standards high.

A higher note for our group was that we retained the Traveling Trophy for the fifth year in a row. Noble Brian Chestnut narrowly won the fastest man on four go-kart wheels again by besting Noble Daryl James of Yoshi. The rest of us just finished but had fun doing it. I think we all are going to practice hard for next year so that the trophy will remain with Midian.

Next year CSSA will be in Golden, Colorado. That will be a

destination to not miss so start planning to attend. It will also be a week earlier and not fall on Labor Day weekend so

that might help with scheduling. The Coors Brewery is in Golden so tours aplenty, although you can only do one a day. Again, plan accordingly.

Yoshi has decided to have our Christmas party a bit earlier this year. We will have it at Paula’s Bar and Grill located on K42 and Maize Road. The date is Friday, November 21 so Yoshi members mark you calendars. There are a few folks we haven’t seen much of this year. Come on out for drinks and dinner and say hello. Hope to see you there!

Parade season is in full stage with parades practically on every Saturday. Come on out and race with us!

Mini-CyclesCentral States has come and

gone. Our competition has finally found a way to beat us. And it looks like Midan has a new motorized unit in either Tulsa or Mexico with 3 of our cycles. And 4 nobles on one mini bike will get you first place in the field competition and the obstacle course. We still managed to have a good time in spite of all the problems. Our 2nd annual go cart races were a success also. Captain Jimmy Decker has been crowned the Turtle of the

unit again (NobleTroy Ayers and Noble Scott Ayers both beat

him). A rematch is being schedule at 81 Speedway next month. Dueling trucks at 50 paces. Question, where is

the air cleaning unit? Another question, why does Captain Jimmy need a pickle and protein? And just in case anyone is worried about the Mini Cycles, we will be back at full strength by Conway Springs parade. Look out Noble Jack Solter! See you in the funny papers.

Golden VIPS TOM TROUTMAN Reporter

The Golden VIPs held their September meeting on the 12th at 12:00pm, in the Kansas Masonic Home with 26 members and guests present.

The meeting was called to Order by President David Pate, PP.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, Glen Holmes gave the Invocation and Blessing for the meal.

The Head Table led the way to a great buffet lunch of garden salad, pasta casserole, chicken, creamed spinach, mixed veggies, dinner rolls, and lemon cake, with coffee, tea, and ice water.

After lunch, our President introduced our guest speaker, Mr. John D. Morrison, a retired computer programmer, who has become a serious photographer in Wichita. He specializes in scenic pictures, most of which are produced in a panoramic format. He uses a digital SLR camera, and explained the process of turning regular photos into beautiful, panoramic works of art.

Most of his work is done early in the morning, or late in the evening, showing the

different landscapes of Kansas. The works include subjects you

don’t normally associate with art. A country road, and old barn, a telephone pole, and court houses are just a few

examples of routine views, turned into beautiful works of art.

It was a very informative and interesting presentation, and afterwards, John was presented with a Golden VIP coffee mug in appreciation for a great program.

The Treasurers report was “Good shape”.Andy Roberts has recently undergone

rotator cuff surgery, and Sharon Geist had back surgery, and is recovering well.

Carol Smith has a birthday on the 20th, Happy Birthday!!!

Carol and Ron Smith celebrated their wedding anniversary on September 3rd. Congratulations!!!

The President, David Pate, asked the membership to consider volunteering for offices for next year. There being no further business, the meeting was closed at 1:10pm, following the benediction.

Midian Cleanup Day

No one would have imagined the amount of junk that had accumulated in the forty plus years the building has been open. We managed to fill four 8’ x12’ disposable dumpsters with everything from letters from the 1970’s, unused circus tickets from the 80’s and 90’s, to bags of trash. That’s right, we found actual bags of trash in the storage areas.

By getting rid of lots of unneeded and unwanted items, we actually have room to store all the tables and chairs the Mecca room in the designated storage room!!!

A BIG THANKS TO ALL THE NOBLES who helped accomplish this much needed on September 5th.

Arami Court JAN HIEBERTReporter

It’s been a busy and lucrative sum-mer for the Ladies of Arami Court. We have participated in parades in Kechi, Halstead, and Mulvane. At Kechi, our float won 2nd place and $25. At Halstead, we won 1st place in the adult division AND the overall Grand Prize, both carried nice cash prizes. At Mulvane, we placed 2nd in the Clubs and Organizations category, another $40. Up next is the parade in Conway Springs on Sep. 27. See you there!

Four more ladies have joined our ranks. On Aug. 23 we held initiation ceremonies and are pleased to welcome Ladies Katie Bobbitt, Lesa Ogden, Pat Sheets and Shannon Young. Ladies, we are glad to have you with us. The next ceremonial will be in Jan.. If you’re interested in joining this active, growing group of women, please contact any Lady of our Court for more information.

The Grand High Priestess, Lady Bea Hillman, has come and gone. We held a carry-in dinner, a stated meeting, had a dinner in her honor and she inspected 18 Recorder and Treasurer books all in the span of about 40 hours. We were her 35th Court to visit. She thoroughly enjoyed her time with us.

Mark Sep. 13 on your calendar for a steak feed jointly presented by Arami’s Kandyland Klowns and Midian’s Krazy Klowns. Tickets

are $15 per person. Good food and good fun!Arami’s Bloomin’ Buddies will be

preparing a traditional breakfast at Lake Afton on Sat., Sep. 20 for the Midian

Nomads. You can’t beat all you get for just $5 per person. These monthly breakfasts are a fundraiser.

Want a yummy, inexpensive dinner? Stop by North Star Lodge on Thu., Oct. 2 for a dinner of hamburger sliders (2), baked beans, potato salad and corn-on-the-cob. All for $5 per person. Dinner will be from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. Open to EVERYONE!

We are coming down to the final planning and execution stages of the 51st Mid-States Unit Meet which will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel, Oct. 24-26. No frills, no fuss, no formal gowns, no high heels. In fact the first of two fun nights is a pajama and movie party. Arami Ladies, get your registrations made now for a relaxing weekend. This one is just for FUN!

Arami Ladies, if you ordered one of our red and/or blue shirts from Lady Terri Wells, PHP, please make arrangements to get your shirt from her as soon as possible. I imagine she’s tired of carrying them around!

Until next month, we “Graceful Swans” are gliding along the surface of the water while below we paddle furiously.
