Expressing Love After Noah Robert Yeldell’s birth on October 25, I shared from the pulpit the joy of our new grandson. I also want to put in print my gratitude for how our church loves our children and grandchildren. Of course, they love you. My daughter and son, who live in Ohio, as well as Kristin, have always been grateful for a happy church where their parents are loved and where they have been trained and encouraged in the faith. Now Janet and I have the joy of seeing three granddaughters and one grandson be a part of this sweet fellowship. This is our “inheritance which we leave to our children’s children” (Proverbs 13:22), a Christ-honoring community where “children will have a refuge,” gaining “strong confidence in the fear of the Lord” (Proverbs 14:26). The Heavenly Father expressed His love for His Son, the Lord Jesus, at His baptism in the Jordan River: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). These words were more said about Jesus than to Him. They confirmed that He was in the center of the Father’s will, “fulfilling all righteousness” by being obedient in believer’s baptism. It was the beginning of His earthly ministry. What was said from the Father’s heart of love was neither threatened nor diminished by His humanness. Even though little Noah is just a baby, I am “well pleased” with him. My prayer is that one day he will receive the affirmation from his godly dad and granddad that he is not only loved by us, but will also be a blessing to us by passionately pursuing the Heavenly Father’s will. This is our hope for our three granddaughters as well. I am certainly not a perfect father, nor is Eric a perfect daddy (though he is terrific). I could not ask for finer sons-in-law than Eric Yeldell (married to Kristin) and Scott Stephens (married to Allyson). Fortunately, when we get to Heaven we will not hear “Perfectly done, you good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21) but rather “well done.” Only the heavenly and holy Father is flawless. But we are able to access His “riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Pray for all of us to be the best parents, grandparents, and servants of the Lord that we can be. By being loved we are able to love back. God cannot be more loveable, but He can be better loved. I shared some important principles in last week’s message about how to increase your love for the Lord. 1. Access the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within you (Romans 5:5). 2. Look to the cross and remember Jesus’ love for you (Romans 5:5, 6). 3. Remember how God has answered your prayers (Psalm 116:1). 4. Speak of His love as you witness (Psalm 118:2). 5. Ask Him specifically for love (Psalm 119:41). 6. Trust Him to love through you to others (Psalm 32:10). 7. Choose to love even those who are different (1 Peter 4:8). Churchwide Dr. Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor Missions Ministry “Absent from the Body, Present with the Lord” Beth Johnson passed into glory on October 29. We are praying for her husband, David, and the rest of the family. Living Christmas Trees 2014 “Journey to the Manger” Tickets On Sale Now Get your tickets online by going to fbcn.org/lct. d’Accordo Music FestivalFBA hosted the d’Accordo Music Festival, an inaugural choir festival where middle school choirs from faith-based, private schools in Collier County came together in one accord to make music for His glory. Over 65 students gathered to sing under the direction of guest conductor, Todd Peterson (Choral Director at Barron Collier High School). Mr. Peterson enjoys connecting with students, sharing his faith, and passing along his passion for music. These students took part in a “big choir” experience, improved their vocal and ensemble techniques, shared in fellowship with students from other faith-based schools, and used their voices to share a glimpse of God’s glory through their beautiful sound.

Protected Harbor MinistryProtected Harbor Ministry

Special Emphasis WeekendThe Amazing Power of Prayer

Protected Harbor, a ministry that cares for adults with special needs, has been founded on the basis of prayer. For more than a decade, the board has prayed for God’s support and provision in building the first Protected Harbor home for women. There were challenges, but God made it possible and it’s fully functional! This has been an exciting year as well with many new advances, all of which have resulted from God’s response to dedicated prayer. As we launch our new Prayer Partner Alliance, we hope you will consider joining us in asking God to make a way to build a Protected Harbor men’s home as well. Please check the chair pocket in front of you, or visit our table in the Commons this weekend for more information about our mission and how you can be involved.
