In a swift response not prompted by media inquiries, Seven issued a statement con- firming the serious breach of its social media policy. ‘‘During an out-of-hours social media session Josh behaved in an inappropriate manner that put him in breach of his responsibilities to this program. After a care- ful review of the incident, Fre- mantleMedia Australia, pro- ducers of the program, together with Channel 7 made a joint decision to remove him from the competition. Josh will return home to Perth,’’ Seven said. It leaves Spice Girls’ Mel B with one contender, Jason Owen, with a replacement for Brookes ‘‘to be announced in the coming days’’. This had been Brookes’ second attempt at the compe- tition, having made it to last year’s boot camp stage before being left out of Guy Sebas- tian’s final three under-25 male performers.
