You shouldfollow your car manufacturersrecommendations on oil andfilter change intervals whilethe car is under warranty. If

your car is no longer underwarranty, you can extend youroil change and filter intervals

by upgrading to a high qualitysynthetic motor oil and highperformance oil filter. This willreduce the number of oilchanges, saving you time andmoney while reducing theamount of oil purchased anddisposed.

There are a number of qualitysynthetic motor oils availablefrom which to choose. Highperformance synthetic motoroils such as Royal Purple,Mobil1, etc., typically havemuch greater oxidation

stability than conventionalmineral-based motor oils. Mostlubricant manufacturers willgive a recommended numberof miles you can drivebetween oil changes undernormal conditions.

If you elect to upgrade yourmotor oil, you should alsoupgrade your oil filter.Inexpensive filters are typicallymade with the 3,000 mileinterval in mind. These filtersoften use low-quality papermedia for filtration and theydeteriorate rapidly after 3,000

miles.
