St. David’s L ibrary is

Reopening Through the efforts of St. Theresa’s Guild, the St. David’s Library is being reopened. The bookshelves are in place, but we need to stock them - with your help. Do you have books that are taking up room at your house that need a home? We need them. Do you have books that you used for a bible study some time ago? We need them too. We need books on religious topics, but we need much more: History, Classic literature, Biography, Self-help books, Parenting books, Sermons, Art, Poetry, and appropriate children’s books. We don’t need that box of romance novels that you have stashed for the next garage sale, home decorating books, mystery novels, or cookbooks. We have 60 feet of shelving in the reception area outside the church offices that is our start. Donations may be placed on the designated empty shelves to be sorted, marked, and classified. Gifts and memorials will be properly recorded and denoted. If you want a receipt for your donation, one may be provided, but we are not qualified to be appraisers, so you have to establish the value. Please provide us with the necessary information. Books that we cannot use will be returned (if requested), or will be donated to The Friends of the Library for their book sale. Questions: Please contact Mary Lou Cutter (770-475-8176) or Don Nahser (770-475-9684).

PENTECOST HELPERS

The balloon crew on Pentecost: Bruce Thomas, Dave Wallace, Chris Burpo, Bill Sleeper, Dan Leach, Scott Munson. Dave Wallace and Bruce got started a few minutes before 4 a.m., and were joined shortly by the others. They filled 500 red balloons with helium, displayed them in bunches of 25 and 50, and were out of there before 5:30! Look for photos in the next newsletter! The people speaking the Pentecost lesson in alternate languages: Bruce Thomas (German), Jesse Freeman (Italian), Bennie King (Italian), Beth King (French), Martha Hays Weiss (French), Sue Farner (French), Lauren Jones (Spanish), and Margie Sleeper (Spanish). Of course, Rev. Anne Elizabeth read the lesson -- Acts 2:1-21 -- from the Gospel platform in English! Anyone wanting to join in next year, especially to expand the number of languages involved in this "Holy Cacophony," is welcome and encouraged to let Bruce Thomas know!

VERGER CONFERENCE HELD AT ST . DAVID’S

The Annual Business Meeting of the Mark Emory Graham Chapter, Diocese of Atlanta, Vergers’ Guild of the Episcopal Church was held in Jeffords Fellowship Hall on Saturday, June 6. This chapter in the Diocese of Atlanta was chartered soon after the 1989 National Chapter meeting. With over 140 members, the Chapter is now one of the Guild’s largest and most active, providing support to parishes not only in the Diocese of Atlanta, but also throughout Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Alabama. The Guild’s presence is seen yearly at the Diocesan Convention in November, the Ministry Fair at the Cathedral in March, and at other Diocesan services. The Right Rev. J. Neil Alexander, Bishop of the Diocese of Atlanta, spoke to the group and led their Eucharist. Lunch was catered for the group and served in Jeffords Fellowship Hall.
