Anti Poverty Day 2012 Within the top 28 economic cities of the world, Hong Kong has the highest Ginny Coefficient (0.53), making Hong Kong the leading city of disparity between the rich and the poor with an estimate of 1.26 million people in the latter population.. One in every six Hong Kong citizens are battling poverty. As the issue prevails, the underprivileged will become increasingly in need of support.

350 thousand children live below the poverty threshold. Children who grow up in insufficient situations are prone to encountering more obstacles and social complications. This will affect their development and how they identify with the society and result in inter- generational poverty. Whether it'd be the elder who scavenge for recyclable cans, the newly immigrant mother who is expecting, a child who lives in a family stricken with poverty, the employee who is hardly making enough to get by, the homeless man, or the people who need the service of a food bank..they are all fighting to live. s. Anti Poverty Day United Nations has recognized October 17 as International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, a day for raising awareness to the issue and minimizing the population who live in the poor. HKCNP invite your community to save a day in October and participate in 10.10.10 Anti-poverty Day. Together we will use 10 minutes in October to commemorate and realize the needs of the underprivileged and donate $10 (or any other amount) to support our organization targeted to tackle this issue. Whole Congregation Our beloved Lord, we are gathered here for those who are in need. On this day we pray for anti- poverty. Prayer We pray for your kindness and for those who are fighting hunger and on the edge of life, especially helpless and poor children, underprivileged expecting mothers, scavenging elders, new immigrants, homeless individuals, food bank operators. We are all working towards for a better future. Everyday they strive for life. May your mercy look after us, heal us and comfort us. Response Lord, we pray for your guidance. Prayer May your love guide the leaders of our society and let them work under a government that serve you and those in need. They will take notice of the unjust and make right the wrong. Under these testing times, we pray that those in power will quickly recognize the need for change. Help them remember that Millennium Development Goals they made can be employed now and can cut the number in poverty in half making 2015 a better time for the generation and generations to come.
