Snow Removal

HP will take care of the streets as well as the common sidewalks. Surfaces will be treated

to avoid accumulation if we have enough notice. You are responsible to remove the

snow on your sidewalk, porch, driveway and/or in front of your garage. The postmaster

will not deliver mail to your home if the snow is not removed and de-iced. When you first

hear about a snowfall, please move your vehicles to your driveway or into your garage.

If you are going to be deployed for over 90 days, The Landings at Hanscom would like to help you with your yard. Bring us a copy of your orders and we will place you on our Deployed Members Listing. In the summer, we will cut your lawn and in the winter, we will shovel your walkway.

Please contact us when you return from your deployment so we can discontinue the service.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION

• The speed limit in all housing areas except Adams and Northbridge Rd is 15 m.p.h. Adams and Northbridge Rd is 10 m.p.h.

• Please watch for children walking to/from school.

• Community and Neighborhood Centers are available to rent to all housing residents. A $100 deposit is required.

Essay Contest: Why I love my spouse. HP is having a 500 word essay contest on

why you love your spouse. All housing residents are eligible to enter. Please

submit all essays to our office by Wednesday, 10 February. Winners will be

notified on Friday, 12 February and a prize will be awarded to the winner.

Maintenance Corner: How to use a garbage disposal

Simple steps on how to use a garbage disposal properly and keep drains from clogging.

1. Turn on cold water. Using cold water is important because it causes the food to harden. Harder food breaks up more easily. It also knocks off the substance that builds up on the blades, keeping the blades sharp. 2. Turn on the garbage disposal. Take care to keep utensils and your hands out of the drain. 3. Feed the disposal a little at a time. Disposals are not designed for large quantities of food. Disposals are designed to grind small pieces of food. So please clear large food particles in the trash can. 4. Let the food clear the disposal– you can hear when it’s clear. 5. Turn the disposal off. 6. Let the water run for 15-30 seconds more to flush the pipe. 7. Turn the water off.

Tips: * Garbage disposals are dangerous. Keep your hands far from moving parts. * Corn husks and other fibrous items, such as celery, lettuce, potato peels, rice and pasta shouldn’t be put into the disposal as they will clog the drain. * For a fresh smell, grind a slice of lemon or orange in the disposal.

HP would like to wish Karen Carbon, our Leasing Manager a fond farewell. Karen and her family will be PCS’ing to Ramstein AFB. Karen has dedicated 4 1/2 years to Hanscom and has been an intricate part of rebuilding this community for our military families. Good luck Carbon family, you will be missed.

The metering installation began on 25 January. HP would like to thank all of our residents for your cooperation during this time.

The base pools next flick-n-float will be on 12 February. They will be showing Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (rated PG). Due to the great response from their last event that HP sponsored, the North Shore Swim Club (youth swim team) would like to offer this event free to The Landings at Hanscom residents. Doors open at 5:15 PM and the movie will begin at 5:45 PM.

Reminder: Trash/ Recycling/ Bulk Item pickup is on Friday, unless it’s a Holiday than it’s on Saturday. It should not be placed out to the curb until the night before pickup and returned by the same evening as pickup.

Hazardous Waste Pickup will now come once a quarter to the Neighborhood Center. The next time they are scheduled to be here is 1 April 10.
