In December 2017, Dr David Barker, senior lecturer in publishing at the University of Derby visited English
literature and English language students at the college’s Derby Road campus. David gave a presentation on the different kinds of jobs within the publishing industry
and spoke about his experience in the sector.
A Level student Sarah has had a triumphant few years at West Notts. Alongside her studies, Sarah set up the college’s first
equestrian society, which resulted in her winning the college’s first Sports Personality of the Year award. Sarah has since gone on to secure one of 70 places across the UK as part of
Sport England’s ‘This Girl Can’ ambassador training; after being nominated by student experience team leader, Robert Pearce.
A Level students were chosen to work with educational visitors from Finland and
Germany, who were visiting the college as part of a pioneering project designed
to address exam stress and improve performance under pressure. Students had
the opportunity to meet team members and discuss the kind of exam pressures they face – and ways to overcome them.

A Level students can now take an additional maths course to boost their knowledge in
the subject. The one-year course (which carries UCAS

Google visited and took students ‘around the world’
with virtual reality software.
Students braved the cold at the Mansfield Big Snore
to raise money for the homeless.
The college collectively raised money to sponsor a

Students were praised for achieving over 8,000 hours of
voluntary service.
Many of our students visited Europe as part of
the Erasmus+ programme.
West Notts launched a college-wide mental health
campaign, ‘It’s OK to Say’.
Inspiring Author Cath Lloyd visited students to share her
story about life with her transgender father.
The college held a health and well-being week to inspire
learners to make the right choices.
The student experience team held an end-of-year prom to
celebrate students’ hard work and dedication.
Staff and students took part in the college’s annual Santa run.
