Evolution Never Stops

* TAPPING CENTER is a registered trademark of BROTHER INDUSTRIES, LTD.

As awareness of the global environment increases, the reduction of environmental burdens is required in all forms of production.

Having helped improve the productivity of machining parts and opened up a variety of future possibilities, the Tapping Center will make tremendous progress while meeting the challenges presented in new areas of environmental issues.

Tapping Center’s High productivity is notable when the cycle time for mass production workpiece machining program is compared to that ofthe #40 Machining Center (M/C).

Technologies supporting high productivity

Example of productivity

Tool change time has been greatly reduced to achieve high productivity.

○Workpiece change time: 15 s

○1 day (10 hours) x 85% operating rate

When machining workpiece, the tool change (ATC) time accounts for approximately 20% of the machine operation time (based on surveys by Brother). This means that productivity can be improved by reducing the tool change (ATC) time.

The turning mechanism has been redesigned to greatly reduce the tool change time. The magazine is servomotor driven to achieve smooth turning.

■Tool change time (measured in compliance with JIS standard)

During period of time after the spindle stops, ATC is performed until the spindlereturns to 10,000 min-1 (From the table center position for X/Y axes)

■Cycle time * Data taken by running machining program created by Brother

■Change of farthest tool (Cut-Cut)

Production volume per day

* When the weight is 2 kg or less per tool, high-speed turn mode can be used. The total tool weight must be less than 15 kg for the 14-tool magazine; 23 kg for the 21-tool magazine.

The high acceleration/deceleration spindle motor used enables the spindle to start or stop in short time. Tool change can be completed without stopping the Z-axis.* The data varies depending on the position of the spindle (Z-axis) and program details.

The TC is equipped with a variety of energy-saving functions.

Consumption: Approx. 90% less

Low power consumption is achieved by using a highly efficient motor to drive the spindle and a low-inertia spindle.

Brother established the “Brother Green Label” in compliance with ISO14021 International Standard and JIS Q 14021 Japan Industrial Standard.

The TC-S2D is an environmentally conscious product with lower air consumption and lead free soldered board and non-PVC materials used.

The structure of the spindle covering has been enhanced to reduce air purge. Air blast operations have also been reviewed to optimize the air discharge timing. These improvements have greatly reduced air consumption.

Reduction in machine recovery time

Time taken for recovery in case of failure has been shortened.

The number of emergency stop contacts, door limit switch contacts, and servo relays has been doubled. In addition, the interlock circuit was reviewed to further enhance safety.

Locating the chip shower at the upper section inside the machine enhances the effectiveness of chip removal.

Discharge pressure increased by more than 4 times/ Discharge flow increase by more than 5 times from our conventional method.Stable and powerful cleaning can be achieved with no influence from clogged filter.

Chips slide down smoothly, reducing influence of thermal distortion due to coolant.

Automatically washes the filter, lengthening filter life.

A Z-axis metal slid cover is used, eliminating damage to the cover due to chips. This prevents direct splashing of coolant and reduces the influence of thermal distortion.

A servomotor is used to accelerate or decelerate smoothly when turning. Less backlash occurs and a highly rigid structure is used. Change to mechanical structure has greatly reduced the number of parts.

Chip showerCan be selected from 50L, 100L, or 150L, depending on the purpose. (Photo: 150L chip shower with CTS)

Coolant unitA motor-driven door is used. This has achieves smooth door operation and reduces opening/closing time.

Automatic door (motor-driven)

Manual pulse generatorSimple top cover and column cover are available.

Simple top cover / Column cover

Conventional 25-pin connector can be attached to the side of the control box.

RS-232C 9 pin to 25 pin conversion cableA flexible plastic hose is prepared for washing jigs, allowing jigs of any shape to be washed easily. (Customers shall prepare the pipes inside the machine.)

Jig shower valve unit

LED lights are used. There are no bulbs to burn out, making it completely maintenance free.

Spindle overrideSpindle speed can be changed without changing the program.

Work light with built-in inverter is used, providing longer life.

Work light (1 or 2 lamps)

Multi-face machining is possible by adding one or two axes.

B-axis cord (1 axis, 2 axes)

A touch switch type tool breakage detector is used. This can also be used for automatic tool length measurement when a program is created for this purpose. (NC language only)

Tool breakage detector (touch type)

External light is taken in to make the inside of the machine brighter and improve visibility.
