*Total time using multiple cycles. Note: If your irrigation controller has a pre-programmed % option, simply enter 70% to change your irrigation schedule.

This gauge shows our current water supply situation. Overall, weather conditions are dry and there have been some cut backs to our water supply.

Response level is: Voluntary Conservation.

Conserving water outdoors will help us move the needle to full.

SmarTimer: Install a “smart” irrigation timer/controller that can fully automate landscape watering based on weather and the actual water needs of your plants – and we’ll even help pay for it!

Sprinkler Heads: Install rotating nozzle sprinkler heads which water more slowly and uniformly to prevent over-watering, using 20% less water.

Mulch: Use mulch to minimize water loss, help control weeds, and return nutrients to the soil as it decomposes.

Shade Trees: Choose trees that shade and cool the house during summer, then shed their leaves to allow in sunlight during the winter.

California Friendly Plants: Consider using “California Friendly” plants in your garden to reduce your outdoor water use. These plant species are low water users and easy to maintain. To learn how to transform your turf yard to an attractive low water use landscape visit www.bewaterwise.com.

Artificial Turf: Install artificial turf which feels and looks like real grass, but without all the maintenance and water use. Artificial turf is durable, safe, keeps your lawn looking green and well manicured all year long, and requires no mowing, watering or chemicals.

Lawn Height: Set mower blade at the highest setting, leaving grass blades 3 inches tall if possible. Longer grass blades promote deeper roots to help retain moisture.

Turf/Low Water Usage Grass: Consider using drought tolerant turfgrass varieties such as Zoysia Victoria, Bermuda, and St. Augustine.

Permeable Surface: Installing permeable paving surfaces allows the flow of water through the soil below, preventing numerous environmental contaminants like oil and fertilizer from entering storm drains as water runoff.

Hose Nozzle: Using hose nozzles with automatic shut-off handles eliminates water waste when watering plants or washing your car.
