Is compliance risk? The definition of risk is “effect of uncertainty on objectives”
In effect, managing risk means to manage uncertain outcomes in the pursuit of objectives
If compliance is comparable to objectives and a desirable outcome, then we can argue that to manage compliance we are in effect managing the uncertainty of outcomes in the pursuit to become compliant
Compliance is therefore not risk at all, it is the outcome of risk management
Is compliance risk?
10 SEMSinar™ Series, Part 4, Element 2 & 3- Safety and Environmental Information/ Hazard Analysis
Compliance is an obligation, requirement and agreement Compliance is also a responsibility Management ultimately takes accountability for compliance Compliance therefore is comparable to managers’ objectives Objectives have measurable outcomes
It can be argued then that compliance is not only a desired outcome, but also a measurable one

BSEE and others provide you notes (Safety Alerts) for your sheet of music (Management System) The safety alert is one of the tools BSEE uses to inform the offshore oil and gas industry of the circumstances surrounding an incident or a near miss.
The alert contains recommendations for the safety of Outer Continental Shelf, they include:
• operational areas • negative pressure testing procedures• location of equipment on the rig• configuration and alignment of subsea blowout preventer stacks
