ANNOUNCING…Our Captains for 2017!

Eight weeks ago, we began a process of seeking young leaders

in our school to serve in the role of School Captains for 2017.

I had the privilege of being part of those interviews, and the

giftedness of those young people was inspirational. Each one

of the students showed exceptional leadership, a heart to

honour God and a willingness to serve our community.

Following this process, I am pleased to announce that the

School Captains for Torrens Valley Christian School in 2017

are:

Captains for 2017

David Smith

Ashlyn Vice

Vice Captains for 2017

Ben Viljoen

Sarah Adams

I would like to congratulate all those who took part in this

process and acknowledge the fine godly leadership they

exercise within our school. We are blessed to have such

outstanding young leaders in our school with a heart for God

and a passion to serve our community.

Please uphold them in prayer as they undertake their

responsibilities and lead our school in the year ahead.

Julie Prattis. Principal.

PARENTS & FRIENDS

The Parents & Friends recently had its last

committee meeting for the year!

Thank you for all your support this year and also into this

term for our Sunscreen fundraiser and in anticipation of the

upcoming Christmas Stall. We feel very blessed to be part of

such a special and supportive School Community.

However for our service to the school community to continue

in 2017 we need your help and support. Over the Christmas

break please consider how you may be able to support the

school community through the P&F.

We need volunteers to assist with Hot Lunches, Sports day,

Open day, Orientation Day, other special occasions and also

in our general fundraising activities.

We especially need more craft members and two people to

lead the Triple C Craft Group next year. A great opportunity

for fellowship within the school community and to create

lovely gifts for our children for Mother's Day, Father's Day

and Christmas stalls. Discover new craft techniques from

other creative Mums. If you don't think you’re very crafty

that's ok too as we have lots of fun jobs to do, or just take the

opportunity to have a cuppa, cake and a chat! If you are

interested please contact Sarah on mobile: 0414 989 663.

We would really appreciate any time you could offer to assist

us and be part our fun, warm and welcoming P&F. We will

also have Committee members’ roles to fill at our AGM in

March.

Please contact Jude on mobile: 0439 388 747 or by email at

[email protected] if you would like any further

information. We would really appreciate your assistance!!

Jude Osborne (P&F Coordinator)

P&F SUNSCREEN FUNDRAISER

The Sunscreen Fundraiser has finished. A big thank you to

all the families that supported the fundraiser. We raised just

over $200 for the school.

Also thank you to Sue and the ladies in the front office for

their help.

Renee Hoff (P&F Committee)

TRIPLE C CRAFT GROUP

Our final event for the year is the lovely Christmas

stall on Friday, 2 December from 8.15am, please see

flyer for further details.

Triple C will have their Christmas Break up morning on

Monday 5, December at the Picked Duck from 9am, hope to

see you all there.

I would like to thank all our amazing and valuable members

for a lovely year of creating and chatting. We would not be

able to provide the lovely gifts on our stalls for the students

without your help and dedication.

We return Term 1, Week 2 next year on Monday, 13 February

from 9am in Kumangka Kuu – How exciting!

AUSTRALIAN CHURCH WOMEN WRITING

COMPETITION

Earlier this year, the Year 9 girls had the opportunity to enter

a national writing competition organised by the Australian

Church Women whose aim is “to unite Christian women,

across denominational boundaries, to promote peace,

understanding and unity through faith and love in one God,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit”.

The girls were asked to write an essay titled “A Christian

Woman Who Inspires Me”. While not many of our girls took

up the challenge, those who did wrote outstanding essays

and found the experience most rewarding.

After having the winning entry last year, this year Torrens

Valley Christian School has gone one better by taking out the

first two places in this national competition. The winner was

Elisabeth and the runner-up was Jemimah. Both girls wrote

exceptional essays about women that they know personally

who have inspired them in their faith and service to others.

Elisabeth and Jemimah will receive certificates and cheques

for their efforts (hopefully presented in the Year 9

Thanksgiving and Graduation Assembly) and will have their

essays published in a special Australian Church Women

booklet.

Congratulations to both girls on an outstanding

achievement.

SPRING POETRY FESTIVAL

Launch at Pulteney Grammar

There were 714 entries this year from students ranging from

Rec to Year 12. 102 poems were selected for publication in

this year's Spring Poetry Festival Anthology. Each of these

students was recognised and personally called forward to

receive a copy of the anthology.

Congratulations are due to our TVCS Year 11 English

student, Jessica, who had her Optic Poem, Words,

published.

Congratulations are also due to our TVCS Year 12 English

Communications student, Taniesha, who shares

the competition's overall Equal First Prize for her poem, His

Eyes. This is a great honour for a student of our school to

receive.

Thank you to all those teachers from TVCS who encouraged

their students to enter this competition and to the Primary,

Middle School and Senior School teachers who encouraged

students to enter not only their poems, but also their cover

designs.

Bev Dinham (Secondary English Teacher)

PRIMARY (R-6) PLACEMENTS IN 2017

We will shortly be assigning our class placements for 2017 in

order to inform you about our decisions by Primary

Orientation Day, which will be held on Wednesday, 30

November, 2016.

Every year we spend considerable time arranging classes

based on many factors such as children’s relationships,

particular needs, balance between boys and girls in each

class, even class numbers and sibling relationships.

If you believe that your child has special considerations of

which we may not be aware, then we would ask you to

indicate these by emailing Mrs Caroline Duell at Email:

[email protected]. This will ensure that your

child’s special needs are considered for next year.

Our current enrolment projections mean that we will have 11

classes in 2017.

While we work hard to meet the needs of every family and

child at our school there are always limited options available

to student placements. Please understand that we cannot

guarantee to meet all requests.

Please note that this is not an opportunity to nominate a

particular teacher for your child.

If you wish to indicate special considerations please reply by

email by Friday, 11 November.

We are looking forward to a great year in 2017. Thank you for

your support for next year.

UNIFORM SHOP

Summer Uniform Season

November is the beginning of Summer season.

Winter uniform is not permitted from 1 November.

Tracksuit pants are not allowed.

Boys may wear long trousers all year round.

Mix and Match of Uniform styles

Some students mix and match uniforms. Sports uniform and

everyday (dress/trousers) should not be blended together,

(ie. do not wear sports jumper over dress). Girls only wear

white knee high socks or ankle socks with their dress and not

sports socks. Bike shorts are not to be worn in place of sport

uniform shorts.

Special Sized Uniforms

If you require a special sized uniform of a smaller or larger

size, we can have a special make, but need time to be made.

It pays to be ready for next year!

Sport Uniform – New Style

2016 is the last year for style change over. From next year

students must be wearing the new style polo and shorts as

the plain red polo and rugby knit shorts will not be uniform.

Fitting of New Students

We will continue with our online booking system for new

student fittings. If your family has a student starting in the

new year and you have not received a letter, please email us

immediately.

New Year Sales Prior to School Year

At the beginning of 2016, we made arrangements so that

waiting for service was almost non-existent. Our new system

works very well, and invite you to share in our organization.

If you are already aware of your requirements for 2017,

please email an order so that it can be filled and waiting for

you. All lay-by or backorders are to be collected by appoint-

ment so that waiting times will be as little as 5 minutes.

Year Twelve Jackets for 2017

The design for the Year 12 jackets for 2017 is complete and all

information will be emailed to student’s school email ad-

dresses. If you have any questions about the design, cost or

nicknames, please ask your year 11 student or you may email

the uniform shop.

Lost Property

Located in front of the uniform shop, a sorting table is there

for your convenience. It will be emptied at the end of the

year, with contents either to Goodwill or second hand. Please

encourage your student to take only what is theirs.

SACSA NETBALL

The annual SACSA Primary Netball Carnival was held in Week 2 at Golden Grove District Courts. We sent five teams from

TVCS as we had a second Year 6/7 girls team due to the high number of experienced players.

Year 4/5 boys

Serena and Erin coached the Year 4/5 boys, along with Mrs Thorpe. The boys worked well

together and learned a lot throughout the day, as the coaches focused on rotating players

through different positions and teaching them new skills and tactics. They finished in the

lower half of their pool but played well in their crossover final, finishing with a win.

Year 4/5 girls

Student coaches Lauren and Haley were very proud of each and every one of the girls for their

efforts at the carnival. They ended up winning 2 out of 8 games and fought for 7th place in

their crossover final, finishing with a great victory. The girls also had opportunities to play

positions that they hadn't played before, which they (mostly) thought was great. They would

like to say a big thanks to the parents and grandparents who came along and helped with

scoring, with special thanks to Ms Anastasia Kastrappi for helping to supervise this team.

6/7 boys

The boys did extremely well on the day, coming 3rd in their pool and 6th overall. Chloe and

Tegan (student coaches) did have a little trouble sorting out positions and making sure

everybody had an even and fair amount of time on the court, due to the enthusiasm of each of

the boys. However, they soon found a balance and won 3 games out of their 5 games in the

minor round. This saw them face off against Hills in the crossover final for 5th and 6th place.

The boys played well but unfortunately went down in their last game.

Year 6/7 girls

Team 1

Team 1 had a fairly successful carnival, winning their first game against Horizon convincingly,

and consistently demonstrating strong game-play throughout the tournament. Although they

were unable to reach the grand final, the girls enjoyed the day and had improved beyond

words by the final match against Sunrise, which resulted in a win. It wasn't just their superb

netball abilities, but their admirable level of sportsmanship, that coaches Emily and Lauren

were most proud of and impressed by.

Team 2

Throughout the day the Division 2 girls put in their best effort and had a lot of fun. One game,

in particular, was both exciting and frustrating as the team controlled the majority of the play

and had the ball in our attacking half so often, but just couldn’t finish off the goal, and it

ended in a draw. Unfortunately, Tyndale didn't turn up to our quarter final, automatically

giving us a 20-0 win. According to the student coaches (Jessica and Paige) this was probably

the most exciting part of the day!

Thanks to Mrs Thorpe, Ms Weiss, Mrs Beames and Mr Karuga for supervising the teams on

the day.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING STUDENTS ON THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS

Congratulations to Haley and Lauren, our latest state representatives, who recently represented SA in Football. The twins were

selected in the Under 16 Diversity State Championships, after being recruited from the Norwood Football Club. This saw them

compete in a week-long competition in Victoria, against the best Indigenous Footballers from all around the country. Lauren

was named in the best players for SA twice but Haley unfortunately broke her finger during the first game.

She continued to play for the rest of the carnival, but it certainly had an effect on her.

Congratulations to Ben, who has been selected to represent South Australia in the National Youth (Under

17s) Rugby 7s Championship, to be held in Perth in December this year. Ben was selected in the final team of

12 after strong performances for his club and some standout sessions at state training.
