Art in TA11

This year we have learnt to incorporate a variety of mediums, styles and techniques to create a myriad of art pieces.

Some of the techniques included charcoal sketches, pattern creation, crayon and edicol dye resist, blending soft pastels and using acrylic paint in block printing. We also carved apples and air dried them to create shrunken heads.

Come and see our art work later in the term on Open Night.

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Edu-dance

This program is off to a great start with all of our students participating fully and enthusiastically. The program is partially funded (50%) by the school’s P&C, and I thank and commend this important group for this and all of the other valuable contributions that they make to our school. We’re so fortunate to be supported by such a dedicated and commitment parental/community group to support us in achieving our goals.

My availability

I know that often parents and caregivers pop in hoping to see me to discuss issues pertaining to their child/children or the school as a whole. In the vast majority of instances this is not possible as my schedule is full. Please see either Mrs Jardine or Mrs Adams in the office should you like a meeting with me and they will arrange a time for us to meet. The office staff will also ask you the nature of the meeting so that I can be informed of the issue before the meeting. This ensures that a solution is more likely in the short term and that we’re all on the same page.

Cross Country

We were so lucky last Wednesday to have a break in the weather and enjoy a sunny day at the Interschool Cross Country Carnival at McDonald Reserve. Congratulations to Sophie Meadon and Isahra Russell who won their races and to all of the competitors who gave it their all. In my eyes, anyone who went as hard as they could and finished the race was a winner. This was the case for all of our students and I congratulate and commend them for all of their efforts.

NAPLAN

These results will be out soon and it’s actually a time of the year that I dread. The whole publishing, comparing of schools, criticisms by people who wouldn’t have a clue and politicising leaves me cold. NAPLAN is a point in time snapshot of where students’ sit in a tiny slither of the curriculum.

For what it’s worth so many months after the assessments, we’ll analyse the school’s data and try and make some use of the results in our forward planning.

NAPLAN ON LINE

This week we were a trial school for the NAPLAN on line testing. I was happy for our students to be in the test group as come 2019 when all tests are on-line, many of our students will have already been through the process.

School Board

The Board meets on Wednesday 16 August. Should you have any issues that you’d like raised at the Board level please contact any Board member well prior to the meeting. The Board consists of Mrs Debra Gendle, Ms Chantelle Martin, Ms Tia Tutti, Mr Jason How, Mrs Tracy Lamb, Ms Storm Motohata, Mr Verne Jones, Mrs Elaine Hill, Ms Julia Bishop, Ms Rulan Whitefoot and myself.

AFL

We're so excited that our girls AFL team has been selected to play in the curtain raiser between Fremantle and Richmond on Sunday 20 August 2017. For anyone attending the game, it will be worth getting there early to see us play as we really are an impressive team. The girls tackle hard, kick long and are ferocious in their attack on the ball. Supporting the team will be Coach Williams, Runner Kemp and Water Boy Knox.

Library News

Mrs Howell is still working on the gradual changeover of the

old library books with another 20 full bags of books donated

to the GSI. To replace these there is a continual stream of

new books being added such as: Anglo-Saxon Boy, Indian

Folktales and History Mysteries. The library is loved by so

many students and these new books will add to their joy.

On Thursday 3 August we had our Term 3 free dress day to raise funds for

the CARE Australia foundation. We raised an amazing $491.00 so thank

you to all the boys and girls for dressing up and donating to this charity.

Also on Monday 1 August some Yr 5 and Yr 6 girls went to Charles Riley Reserve to play AFL.

Unfortunately the games were cancelled due to wet weather, but the girls met and trained with some

Eagles players and had great fun. Thank you to Mrs Williams for training the girls and taking the team to

the event.

Charlotte

So far this term we have been attending Edu Dance and everyone loves it! It is a fun programme where

each class learns dance routines in preparation for a big end of term concert. Thank you to the instructors

for teaching us cool dance moves!

Once again thank you to all the parents/caregivers who have registered on the Qkr payment app. We

are finding this payment system is working very well.

Please note if you attempt to log into Qkr with the incorrect password three times in a row you will be

locked out of your account for 30 minutes. Therefore, if you are unsure of your password, we suggest

requesting a new one by clicking on “Forgot password”. A new password will be emailed to you and you

will be able to log in immediately.

If you have attempted to log in and received a message from Qkr that your account is not recognised,

this may be an error with your original registration, meaning that your email address or mobile phone

number was incorrectly entered when you registered for Qkr. If this happens you will need to contact the

support centre on 1800 689 562 as they will need to verify your account. A change has been made to

the registration process to now request the user enter their email address and mobile phone number

twice to reduce the likelihood of these details being entered incorrectly.

Another issue being reported to Qkr is to do with an inability for some users to complete permission slips

on Qkr This seems to be due to android users using an out dated version of the app, and to overcome

this users need to ensure they upgrade their version of Qkr.

Please also check your activity on Qkr to ensure that you are not paying for an item twice. If you need

assistance with this please see the front office.

SCHOOL PHOTO DAY IS COMING! Dear Parents,

Our school photo day is coming! Approximately two weeks prior to the photo day every student will receive a Kapture Photography order envelope to bring home. The recommended method of ordering your photos is online through Kapture’s website as your payment is secure and can be easily verified at any time. Alternatively you can pay by cash and return the provided envelope to the school on the photography day.

You have the remainder of the current year to order, 5 days after photography a late fee will apply. Please check the website.

You also have the option to order a sibling photo package online, however please be aware there may be a limited number of sibling orders that can be placed due to time constraints on photo day. We suggest you place your online sibling order the moment you receive your personalised envelopes.

Kapture offer a money back guarantee for any parent who is not fully satisfied with their photo package. Should you have any queries before or after photo day, please direct them to the Kapture office on 9240 1714 or email [email protected].

All students will be photographed individually on photo day for school administration records AS WELL as included in their class group photo available for purchase to all families. Should there be any reason why your child should

NOT be included in the photo shoot –please contact the school office.

Refer to our website for your sibling closing date. Late requests cannot be granted.

The P&C held a meeting last night, it was lovely to see some new parents in attendance. Thank you to everyone who braved the cold rainy weather last night.

Parking around the school has been a major issue this year. Please ensure that anyone who drives your child to or from school is fully aware of our parking policy (this includes Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles, etc). This has gone out in an email to every Class Rep, and should have been forwarded to every parent. As parents, it is your responsibility to ensure that you do the right thing at all times. The Rangers have been notified of the issues around our school. They have been doing patrols in marked and unmarked vehicles (with number plate recognition technology) and will issue infringements. There is only so much the school and the P&C can do. It is up to every driver to ensure the safety of our students, which is our number one priority.

The P&C voted to cover the costs for the remaining incursions to the school. The P&C will pay for each and every student to attend the upcoming Book Week play as well as the Life Ed van in Term 4. Therefore, there will be no expense to parents and no child will miss out. We appreciate your support in all our fundraising efforts and hope to continue using the funds raised to pay for all of our incursions in the future.

The P&C will be organising Subway lunch for the Faction Carnival Friday 8 September. This will be a pre-ordered lunch, with order forms to go home closer to the date.

The Year 6's will be holding a sausage sizzle as well.

Our annual Father's Day Stall is coming up on Thursday 31 August. Order forms are going home today. Please ensure the order forms are returned be the due date. Late orders may not be accommodated if there are not enough gifts.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 13 September at 7pm in the Staff room.

We are very fortunate at South Padbury PS to have wonderful Traffic Wardens nearby making sure that our students cross the road safely. If you use the crossing on Warburton Ave or Gibson Ave remember to say a big hello and thank the Traffic Wardens for the fantastic job they do.
