Introduction

The International House of Taipei Foundation is a government-registered, international cultural and education society founded in 1957 and is in full-compliance with related structural, fire, and public-safety codes.

The House is operated as a youth hostel and staffs a 24 hour service desk to assist with guest needs and manage operations such as cleaning, repairs, or other services.

In addition to reserved space for 100 beds, the House has an additional 54 bed spaces to-rent available for outside applicants. The facility regularly receives students from around the world arriving in Taiwan for study and is a convenient space for international exchange students to live and interact with people of different cultures.

◎ Floor space: Approx. 1,305 ping (total area)

◎ Floors: 2 buildings, each with 8 floors (5 above-ground) and 1 elevator

◎ Bed space: 59 dorm room units reserved with 100 beds total to-rent

◎ Common areas: resident canteen, food-prep facilities, laundry room, open area for clothes drying, reading/study room, fitness area, and public telephones

◎ Improvements to the common areas:

1. 1st floor: Introduction of restaurants, convenience stores, a beauty salon, and other businesses

2. Basement: Planned addition of more study rooms, meeting rooms, a canteen, and food-prep

facilities

Amenities/Facilities ◎ Dorm room cleaning: once every 7–10 days

◎ Common-area cleaning: Daily (hallways), other areas once every 7–10 days

◎ Service counter: 24-hour availability for service requests or general assistance/advice

◎ Self-service laundry: Coin-operated washing machines (NT$20), dryers (NT$10), and a clothes

spinner (NT$5); availability: 6 AM to midnight

◎ Clean bedding/linens: If necessary, residents may clean/dry their own sheets, pillow cases, and

blanket covers using the coin-operated machines. They may also exchange them at the service

counter.

Service counter cleaning fees:

Sheets: NT$20 each; pillowcases: NT$10 each; blanket covers: NT$20 each; blankets: NT$40 each.

◎ Dorm-room appliances available for rent: Small refrigerator (NT$400/month), TV (NT$1,000/month;

includes cable fees); if interested, apply at the service counter.

◎ Fax service: Inquire at the service counter to send a fax.

Fees:

Taipei City/New Taipei City: NT$5/page; other counties in Taiwan: NT$15/page; foreign countries

(including China): NT$90/page; receiving faxes (regardless of origin): NT$5/page

Dorm Operations Management and Counseling

◎ Full-time on-site counselor (1 person): Responsible for general affairs/administration, dissemination of dorm policies, student counseling, and handling any emergencies

◎ Student assistant counselors (4 persons): Responsible for assisting the counselor with promoting and organizing various activities to create a warm atmosphere in the hostel

◎ International House management and counseling methods are the same as in campus dorms, including activities promoting learning, peer networking, and security. Residents must comply with related regulations and participate in required meetings and activities.

Transportation from the Int’l House

◎ The Int'l House is located between the Xindian City Hall and Qizhang MTR stations. Take the Green 9 bus for approx. 8–10 minutes.

◎ Each Green 9 bus operates according to an express, rapid, or a local route (based on how many stops each bus makes). All buses pass by the Int’l House and an MRT station (or a 2-minute walk from the MRT to the bus stop).

Int’l House Vicinity

Food: In addition to the restaurants and convenience stores at the Int'l House, there are options nearby such as a Wellcome supermarket (3 min. walking distance) or other food stands and small restaurants. (Take the Green 9 bus for 1–2 stops.)

Atmosphere: The Int'l House is situated in a residential area. Along Zhongxing Rd. is a mixed residential/commercial area. Nearby are Xindian government offices and other schools, all situated in a safe, good neighborhood.

Health: There are medical clinics distributed in the area between the Xindian District Office MRT station and Qizhang MRT station; the nearest hospital is the Cardinal Tien Hospital (15 minutes from the Int'l House).

Amenities: There are numerous other shops around Qizhang MRT station, such as Carrefour (and an accompanying large shopping mall), optometrists, shoe stores, beauty supply stores, clothing stores, and banks.
