Guide for a SuccessfulGuide for a SuccessfulProgram OverseasProgram Overseas

Step One

Ask yourselfWhy do I want to volunteer abroad?Where will I volunteer?Do I know the language? What can I offer to the program? How long will I stay?Do I have the money to pay for the program? Can I fundraise? Do I have enough time? Can I handle cultural shock? Can I adapt to new situations and travel with an open mind?

Ask Yourself IIWill I be responsible with the full time work schedule? Can I be Proactive? Can I implement new projects, or improve the one there is already? Can I handle being homesick? Will I complain more than solve issues? This is a rich experience that not every one can handle, but if you do…it will change the way you see our World and it will make you grow.

Compare Organizations

Is it a 501 Tax Exempt Organization? What are the real fare and fees included?Do they offer customized programs with flexible starting and ending dates?Make a list of what they offer for the price.See how many placements and programs they have, choose if you want a group program or a individual program.Look for reviews on the internet.

Check the following:

Choose the Organization

Call them just to know how is the customer service, friendly and knowledge.Check the website and read the FAQ page and the programs you are interested in.After reading the website, email them with some questions and see how long does it take for them to answer. Also make sure the Organization is a “Green Organization” (that they care for the environment) no use of paper or use of expensive brochures and low energy usage.Check if they are in all the Social Media as Facebook, Youtube, MySpace, Bebo and if they are linked to other organizations.
