Healthy Food Plates

If you remember, one of your tasks was to make a plate of healthy food in an artistic way and some of the results you sent in were restaurant quality. Do any of you recognise this cheeky character that James made? Yes – it’s Luigi!

Also, look out for Ellie who has been planning lots of healthy menus for Mrs Faulkner to get her off all the chocolate she has been eating – AS IF!!!!!!

All that yummy fruit looks really tasty!

Aunty Sandra’s Sadly, we all missed our end of year treat – our school trip to Aunt Sandra’s Sweet Factory in Belfast, but so many of you set up your own confectionaries at home and baked some really delectable fayre.

What do you think of Olivia’s honeycomb? Doesn’t it look really professional?

Sophie baked a cake with Nutella sprinkles and giant strawberries – I’d show you a picture but I ate it all!!!! Only joking … Sophie ate it!

Look at Charlie’s chocolate baking – these look like speciality truffles.

To My Amazing P5 Class 2020 We did it! Here you all are at the end of what has been a fantastic year and I can hardly believe the amount of quality work that you have all been sending in. Not only are you Lockdown Geniuses, but your parents are now honorary teachers who should all be receiving rewards! So before we look at all the wonderful photos you’ve been sending in, give your home-school teacher a big hug and say thank you!

Word Millionaires!

Let’s say a huge congratulations to our new millionaires this week:

Daniel Allen! Sarah Shepherd and James Martin!

Did you know that the number of words we have read as a P5 class this year is ….

17,165,815

That’s over 17 million!

Also congratulations to Olivia Bennett who believe it or not has become a DOUBLE MILLIONAIRE! Yes – she hit her 2,000,000 words this week!

Everyone in P5 have been awesome readers and your constant targets have blown my socks off! Just as well I don’t need them in this hot weather. A.R. targets are now completed for the year.

Izzy’s lemon drizzle cake looks perfect for the staff room but I’m pretty sure she’s polished this all off too. It looks so delish!

Kayleigh and her twin have been baking truffle oreos and donuts. I offered to taste test them for her but she wasn’t so keen. I wonder why?

William and his brother both decided to take the savoury route and made pizzas. Now, which slice

shall I have?

And finally, Ellie made this gorgeous looking fudge. I have to ask Ellie – is that rectangle my piece?

If so, where is your piece of fudge?

This looks just like the fudge that I used to make – far too tempting!

Lockdown Mindfulness

We all know how important it is to make time to be mindful of how we are feeling inside of ourselves. Even over the summer holidays it is going to be vital to take time out to relax and do something you enjoy. I love to

build lego as you all know and I also love to crochet, paint, play my violin and watch the birds in my garden.

So here are some of the mindfulness activities that you have been doing over the last couple of weeks:

Daniel loves to read in bed and relax with some “me” time in the quiet warmth of his cosy quilt.

Don’t you just LOVE that hairstyle!

Olivia has been doing something that I used to do when I was her age – weaving. This is so clever – she’s made a coaster!

Evelyn and her sister have been watching the birds in her garden when something very exciting happened. A robin flew down with her new baby who had just fledged and Evelyn was able to watch her feed the baby robin. This is a bit like my boys feeding me my

chocolate of an evening lol!

Keep an eye out for all those baby birds out there. They’re usually quite big and fluffy and very noisy! We have baby goldfinches, chaffinches and baby great tits. We also had a siskin for the first time ever this week!

Bethany, as you may remember, welcomed her new baby brother into her family at the start of lockdown. She loves spending time with baby Toby and looking after him. Isn’t she a fabulous big sister?

Ellie has been working on her art skills again over the last couple of weeks. This time, she made her own salt dough and designed this intricate wreath. She even added colours to make the designs stand out.

Now, Sarah has the right idea here – she’s just relaxing and enjoying a minute’s peace and quiet before hitting

the books for extra numeracy practise on angles. You’re just right Sarah!

Try some mindfulness breathing and hop onto GoNoodle to find some relaxing exercises to do.

If Sarah can find time to kick back with two younger sisters in the house, then we all can do the same.

Emma has found lots of new skills to work on during lockdown. We all know how she loves art, well she’s expanded her skills into gardening and kite flying!

Did you know that kite festivals are a huge part of different cultures in Australia, Japan, Guatemala and India?

William S. has been learning to ride his bike with no hands! What happened to your hands William? Did someone steal them?

I know what Daniel is going to be doing this summer too – it begins with a “nin” and ends with a “do” and has a

10 in the middle!

Kayleigh has been baking again! Her house is turning into a bakery!

Look at this amazing cake she made for her brother’s birthday.

The “6” is the number of slices she’s

donating to the “Feed Mrs Faulkner” fund!

Persuasive Letters

I have to say a huge thank you to all of you who sent me your persuasive letters that you wrote for literacy.

I wish I could post up your finished letters here, they are so good and very persuasive. A special mention to Daniel whose letter blew me away. Also to Charlie – your letter was packed full of powerful persuasive language and to James who worked his socks off getting his finished to a very high standard.

I even received a letter from someone very famous! A health expert extraordinaire and Doctor to the stars …… Dr Pippa McCullough! Her advice was unarguably persuasive.

A very special mention also to Izzy who even had advice from the World Health Organization! And to William S. who typed his letter up in glorious techicolour!

As a result of reading all of these I phoned Mrs McCourt and booked my school dinners for all of next year. I also wrote a very persuasive letter to Mr Spratt with my recommendations for a new menu:

• Chilli and Chocolate Con Carne.

• Fish fingers and Chocolate Chips.

• Mexican tacos with chocolate shells.

I’m waiting to hear his reply!

Outstanding Work!

As usual, you have all been working really hard at the different tasks I have sent you. I just had to share some of these pieces which were just excellent ….

Emma has been putting her artistic skills to the test yet again and drawn this fabulous copy of a crisp packet.

Her shading and graphics are really effective aren’t they?

Do you fancy taking some of my art classes for me

next year Emma?

Lexi has been working tirelessly on her numeracy – especially her times tables and her angles.

Seriously? Trigonometry? Lexie this is high school level maths! Wow!

Joel has been really busy making an Egyptian sarcophagus – look at this!

He also made a fabulous tri-fold leaflet for next year’s P5. Thanks for that Joel – although you may have forgotten to mention that I like chocolate!

Here is Pippa’s art which she completed exactly as per my instructions. Isn’t it fabulous! Well done Pippa.

Advertising and Temptation!

I asked you all to design your own chocolate bar ready to advertise for sales. I’m hoping you’ve been working on your TV adverts! While I can’t always see these, as your videos are often too big to send via email, some of you have been sending me your posters.

These posters do come with a warning though …

WARNING: If you read these, you will want to buy them. Chocolate bars are BAD for your health and

should be donated to the “FEED MRS FAULKNER FUND”. She will dispose of them safely!

Kayleigh’s ice-cream will make you SCREAM for more!

Olivia’s Space Bar is so tempting that I’m inclined to take off into space to see if I can find one of those chocolate covered treats!

Watch out! Ellie’s Crunchy McCaramel is making my tummy rumble – or was that thunder?

I think you have to agree that these new inventions are just full of creative thinking, dramatic phrases and tasty ideas.

Well done to everyone – even if you didn’t send your idea in – I know you’ve all worked very hard.

Here’s one from Charlie which has just arrived in my in-box. He has made a fabulous advert which is airing on a TV near you! Can I have your autograph Charlie?

These are Sarah’s Chiky Chummy Chewies – she made a fantastic advert using her sister as an Oscar winning actress. Now isn’t that slave labour?

More Achievements and News Just In!

This is an amazing cause for celebration for Isaac – he has just received an official Blue Peter Badge!

I can’t tell you how jealous I am of this!

Certificates

I hope you all know just how much I have loved having you all as my P5 class this year. We may not have been able to do all of the exciting treats that I had planned for you this summer term but I couldn’t have you missing out on your end of year certificates.

I wanted to celebrate with each and every one of you, what makes you so special and unique to our little family. So you are all receiving a certificate along with this letter which I hope I remembered to attach to your email! These are specific to you and every one is different. I’ve looked for the quality that has set you

apart from everyone else in P5, whether it is the most helpful person, the one with the kindest heart, someone who makes you smile or your creative thinking when it comes to asking me awkward questions!!!! Please print it out and keep it because this comes with my love and my utmost appreciation for the young person you are.

Diamond Awards!

You were all working so hard to earn stars this year and I know that all stopped when we entered into lockdown, but some of you earned your Silver Awards and never received them. If you were owed a silver award you will find it in your report which should arrive with you in early July.

As you know, there are the elusive Diamond Awards which are rewarded to those who collected the most number of stars for the year.

I’d like to announce that there are three winners this year. Well done to Daniel, Sarah and Brooke who are receiving the Diamond Awards for 2020! Your certificates are in your reports which will be arriving with you next week!

Help!

This is where Mrs Faulkner needs YOUR HELP!

If you took home your art folder or your mindfulness journal at the start of lockdown, would you mind returning it to school when you come back in August/September please? I really need these art folders particularly as they are costly to replace.

Also if you took home your reading novel: The Switch, James and the Giant Peach, The Twits, There’s A Boy In The Girl’s Bathroom, PLEASE, please, please can you return this to me when you come back to school. I am missing quite a number of these and I need them for next year. I would be ever so grateful if they were returned. It’s my fault they weren’t collected in before school closed and I’d be forever in your debt.

Thank you!

Finally …

I want to say a very special goodbye to someone in our class who is moving schools.

William, we are going to miss you so much!

Thank you for being such a great friend to others, always keeping me amused with your jokes and making everyone around you smile.

We wish you every success in your new school and I just know that you will make friends really quickly.

Work hard and come back and visit us sometime soon.

Have an amazing summer everyone.

Stay safe,

Look after everyone in your family,

See you all in September!

Oh ……..

And remember, whatever happens …….

Mrs Faulkner still loves you and that makes everything okay!

My final goodbye photo is on the last page – a special thank you to Sarah for my gorgeous socks!
