Fiesta...Come, Let Us Celebrate at the Fiesta Table
40TH ANNUAL FIESTA WEEKEND: Our 40th annual parish community Fiesta is in full swing. The final segment of our three-
day Fiesta is this Sunday afternoon from 4pm to 8pm. This 40th annual parish Fiesta is again an opportunity for bringing our entire
parish and school families and surrounding neighborhood together in community. Our Fiesta event creates a very informal and
friendly environment to celebrate friendships and especially the gift of our faith and its call to experience the joy of the Gospel in the
Lord, Jesus. The Fiesta Raffle will be the big highlight of Sunday evening’s segment.
Our deepest gratitude to RJ Saavedra, her family, and all on the core committee of the Fiesta and all who contributed hours of
service in the presentation of this 40th annual Fiesta. Our deepest gratitude to all of you and to all who participated and supported
this year’s Fiesta.
HOLISTIC STEWARDSHIP SEASON IS A-COMING: Holistic Stewardship means that everything we have is a gift, including
the gift of creation around us. This means that everything we have... our time, our talent, and our treasure are God given gi fts. Once
we accept and acknowledge to ourselves that everything we have is a gift entrusted to us by God, then our true response must be one
of giving back in thanksgiving.
During the upcoming weekends of October our parish will be promoting Holistic Stewardship out of the need to be thankful givers.
In preparation for the annual renewal, parishioners are invited to prayerfully reflect on our parish Mission Statement and the
Stewardship Prayer. The parish Mission Statement and Stewardship Prayer are shown here.
Parish Mission Statement As missionary disciples filled with the joy of the Gospel, our parish proclaims an ongoing encounter with Jesus Christ through
Word, community, Sacrament, and loving service.
Stewardship Prayer My parish is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is. It will be friendly, if I am. It will be holy, if I am. Its pews will be
filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work. It will be prayerful, if I pray. It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I
am a generous giver. It will bring others into worship, if I invite and bring them in. It will be a place of loyalty and love, of
fearlessness and faith, of compassion, charity, and mercy, if I, who make it what it is, am filled with these same things. Therefore,
with the help of God, I now dedicate myself to the task of being all the things that I want my parish to be.

FIRST QUARTER ORDINARY INCOME UPDATE: Our stewardship of treasure income for the months of July, August and
September, which are usually the lean and mean times for the budget year, is in 9.1% deficit (-$24,882). The deficit for the same
period last year was 4.1%. Our three months in the parish hall and the successful Three R’s campaign seem to have been
contributing factors towards this first quarter deficit. The Yes, Lord annual renewal has always been helpful in erasing the early
deficit of the budget year.
ANNUAL CATHOLIC MEN’S CONFERENCE: Bishop Weisenburger notes the following — The Diocese of Tucson is hosting
the Annual Catholic Men’s Conference on Saturday, November 3rd from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm with registration starting at 8:00 am. It
will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. This will be an opportunity for ALL men throughout the diocese to come together as
men of faith. All husbands, fathers, grandfathers, single men, sons, grandsons, and nephews are encouraged to attend. My hope as
your (Pastor/priest/deacon/fellow parishioner) is that as many men as possible from the parish will register. Mr. Greg Wasinski and
Mr. Jesse Romero are two nationally sought-after speakers whose presentations will help explore the scriptural and practical
meanings of Iron Sharpens Iron inspiring a spiritual connection to God, family and community. You can register in advance online
at www.tucsonmensconference.org. I hope many of our men will take advantage of this unique opportunity to grow in faith.

Scripture Reflection DID YOU KNOW . . .
Did you know? That when Catholics enter into a
sacramental marriage a ‘marital bond’ is formed
that makes the couple a living image of Christ and
the Church, and urges them to imitate this
relationship in their own lives.
October 7, 2018 - 27th Sunday of Ordinary Time,
Genesis 2:18-24; Hebrews 2:9-11; Mark 10:2-16
God creates a partner for Adam. A woman who is
created from his side and then becomes one with him.
Jesus reaffirms this union when the Pharisees ask Him
about divorce. “God made them male and female… They
are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has
joined together, no human being must separate.”
This led the disciples to ask further questions. Jesus
explained that if a married couple got divorced and then
either person remarried, they were committing adultery.
This is true today, but there are options. A divorced
person can receive Eucharist if they are a Catholic in good
standing and either have not remarried or have received an
annulment. An annulment isn’t a Catholic divorce either. It
proves that the marriage was never actually a covenant
marriage. Does this affect the legitimacy of any child from
the marriage? Absolutely not. If you’re curious and want
more information, please go to this website:
http://www.foryourmarriage.org/divorce/
The disciples were sending away people who were
bringing their children to Jesus for His blessing. Jesus got
upset about that and told the disciples, “let the children
come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God
belongs to such as these.” Jesus embraced and blessed
them.
Its been said when you don’t hear crying in a church,
the Church is dying. We need to let the little children in.
They are the future of our Church and of our faith. We
need to accept God with the faith of a child. Asking
questions is fine. Think about how many questions your
children ask. Also think about looking at the sunset or a
rainbow like your children do and realizing God created
that for us to enjoy and thanking Him for that and our
child-like faith.

Asistí a la escuela OMOS y he
Quiero agradecer a Monseñor

How can we ease the challenge of “saying good bye” to
our loved ones? As part of Respect Life Month, the
Consistent Ethic of Life Committee will present an
information forum about Catholic funeral rites, burials,
cremation, and how to make arrangements for final
resting places for yourself and those you love. Interfaith
issues and other family situations will also be addressed.
Planning in advance can lift the burden of responsibility
from others and bring some peace of mind. Our hope is
that this forum will ease many concerns about navigating
this challenging journey. Open to all. Sponsored by Our
Mother of Sorrows Parish & The Diocese of Tucson
