Vision

To become a primer military library which excellent at national and international level in providing information resources in the education of science defence and military research

Provide the facilities and services as well as quality information resources and suite with the users need

• To provide collection of reference materials to assist in learning and researching as well as additional reading material

• Try to full fill the user’s needs and process of disseminate the information

• Providing the effective system in the management of the library

OBJECTIVE

• Develop the collection of information about science defence, science technology and medicine and defence health which is comprehensive and global

• Provide the latest information technology infrastructure for the purpose of disseminating information efficiently and effectively

• Provide support to the process of research, teaching and learning

• Provide conducive infrastructure to the learning process in the Library

• Preserving the scholarly repository of the University

• Location– 3 ½ storey library building located between swimming pool and UPNM mousque.

• Scale– 25,000 sq feet (Apprx. accommodate 800 people per time)

• COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT

a. OPEN SHELF COLLECTION This collection consist of book from variety of subject field. These collection can be borrowed by the

user according to their respective qualification.

b. REFERENCE COLLECTION This collection consist of reference book such as encyclopedia, bibliography, statistic, index and any

other collection that appropriate for this collection. All entire collection only can be use within the library and cannot be borroewd.

c. RED SPOT COLLECTION This collection consist of students primary text book and reference book. All entire collection is

develop based on suggestion from lectures and all entire collection can be borrowed for 2 hour only.

d. DICTIONARY COLLECTION This collection consist of dictionary, thesaurus and term in various language and fields.

e. LIMITED ACCESS COLLECTION This collection consist of PSM (Projek Sarjana Muda), thesis, dissertation, past exam paper, journal

and bound serial collection. User are allow to use as reference only and these collection cannot be photocopy.

f. SERIAL / JOURNAL COLLECTION Collection such as journal, magazine, annual report, bulletin and newspaper are provided.

g. TEXT BOOK COLLECTION This collection consist of text book that is used by the University according to the certain subject.

h. MALAYSIANA COLLECTION This collection consist of any item that related to Malaysia. Example encyclopedia, journal and

audio visual. All entire item only can be use within the library.



i. MULTIMEDIA COLLECTION This collection consist of CD-ROM, Video and Audio Cassette, DVD, Kits and Diskette.

j. UNIVERSITIES COLLECTION This collection consist of prospectus, guide book, phamplet and treatise. These entire collection

only can be use within the library and cannot be borrowed.

k. CONFERENCE COLLECTION This collection consist of seminar and conference paper.

PRIMARY SERVICE

REFERENCE & SEARHING INFORMATION SERVICE

This service provide to answer all the user inquiry and assist user to search information need effectively. Reader Advisory Counter is provided in order to assist the library user.

CIRCULATION COUNTER Library provide loan and returning service either by self service or through Circulation Counter Service.

INTER LIBRARY LOAN This service is provide to easiest the process of borrowing book from other library within Malaysia ) international if the book need doesn’t exist in General Tun Ibrahim Library. This service is offered to lecturer and final semester student.

SERVICESOTHER SERVICE

LIAISON OFFICER Act as Liaison Officer between faculty and library in order to support process of learning, teaching and research.

INFORMATION LITERACY CLASS Special programme conduct by the library in order to show the user about the service and facility provide by the library.

ONLINE DATABASE All entire database can be access within the campus by visiting library website http://lib.upnm.edu.my and from https://libproxy.upnm.edu.my for off-campus access.

NEWSPAPER CUTTING SERVICE General Tun Ibrahim Library provide the newpaper cutting service from past previous year starting from year 2009.

WebOPAC (Online Public Access Catalog)

Online catalog system to easiest the searching of information material in the library. It will shows the title and location of material search in the General Tun Ibrahim Library.

WiFi WiFi can be access at library reading area.

DISCUSSION ROOM General Tun Ibrahim Library provide 4 discussion room which can accommodate maximum of 8 user per time.

COMPUTER LABORATORY General Tun Ibrahim Library provide 15 unit of computer for the purpose of Information Literacy Class.

FACILITYOTHER FACILITY

LOCKER AND LUGGAGE RACK General Tun Ibrahim Library provide facility to user keep their personal belonging at the ground floor.

WIRELESS PRINTING / PHOTOCOPY Self service Photostat machine is provided in the library by outsourcing from vendor.

SELF-CHECK General Tun Ibrahim Library provide 2 self check machine for the purpose of borrowing book.

BOOK DROP General Tun Ibrahim Library also provide book drop machine for the purpose to easiest the returning book process.

COZY CORNER / NEWSPAPER READING AREA

There are 2 set of newspaper (Utusan Malaysia, Berita harian, Kosmo, Metro, New Straits Times and The Star) provided in this area.

1. Library user must demonstrate their metrix card while entering the library

2. SILENT is the practice while in the library.

3. While in the library, user are RESTRICTED to:

1. Make any noise, talking and discussing loudly which can interupt other user.

2. Use handphone in the library. Handphone should be put in silent mode or vibrate.

3. Smoking, eating and drinking.

4. Sleep

5. Sketch, torn, stealing and damaging library material.

6. Move the book / material from one level to another / from one colection to another / one shelf to another.

7. Throw rubbish all over the place

8. Booking any seat in the library. (first come first serve)

LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATION

4. Library user should behave decently and wear a proper attire while in the library. (According to the rules and ethic set by UPNM)

5. Personal belogging such as bag, helmet, umbrella, raincoat and etc are NOT ALLOW TO BE BROUGHT INTOLIBRARY. It should be put at the locker at the ground floor provide by the library and. General Tun Ibrahim Library are not responsible with any lost of your personal belogging.

6. Only book, note, foolscape paper, laptop and stationery can be brought into the library.

7. Library deserve to do checking on book, file or any other material before user leave the library building.

8. User SHOULD put the book / library material that has been use on the troley provided. Dont scattered the book / any library material on the table.

9. User who make a copy of library material over the limit allow are fully responsible to the action taken for violation COPYRIGHT ACT 1987 (Akta 332)


10.User are restricted from removing or altering the funiture, tools and equipment in the library.

11. Utilization of ‘Plug Point’ only provided at certain zone set by the library. User are RESTRICTED from utilize any other ‘Plug Point’ set by library.

12.User SHOULD obey all the additional rules and regulation set by the library while using the library service and facility such as Auditorium, Computer Laboratory, Discussion Room, Postgraduate Room and etc.

13.Any information from duty staff will be made using PA System 10 minute before library close. All user need to leave the library during that time.

14.Those academic staff who had study leave or sabatical in oversea SHOULD return all library material borrowed.

15.Academic / non-academic staff who has complete the service / contract / pansion SHOULD return all the library material borrowed.


16.Offficer and library staff deserve to remind and take action if user break the library rules and regulation.

17.Library deserve to prevent / block the user from using the library service and facility if the user break the library or university rules and regulation.

18.As benefit to all, library deserve to change or adding any rules and regulation from time to time without notice.

3. Act as coordinator in the dealing process of acquired reference book suggest by the faculty for the existing courses or for new courses.

4. Encourage the utilization of library among lecturer / researcher / assistant researcher and also the student for the purpose of acquiring new knowledge.

5. To get the list name of new lecturer / researcher / assistant researcher from the faculty to give provide them with Information Literacy Class in order to use the library database.

6. Attend a meeting with faculty.

7. To tighten the relationship and cooperation between library and faculty.

• It’s a special programme conduct by PJTI to all entire staff and student of Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia to educate the users on how to use the service and facility provided in the library.

• The main objectives of this class are:

– To expose the library user on how to use the service, facility and collection in the library

– Understand the method and strategy in information searching effectively– Able to determine and accessing the information from various printed and non-

printed resources besides able to evaluate the material and information sources

Each class took only 1 hour following the appropriate time of user. If necessary, the duration of the class will be extend depends on needs and suitable time.

• Qualification

This programme will be conducted continuously and offered to all entire student and staff of Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia. Class will be handling by the Librarian cum Liaison Officer of Faculty and Assistant Librarian from General Tun Ibrahim Library.
