1. SELECTING YOUR PROJECTThe first step is to decide what topic your project is going to be about. Make sure you pick something that is of interest to you as you will be more likely to enjoy the project and will be more motivated to do a good job!

Choose a broad topic area and then try to narrow it down a little by listing a few ideas.

For example, from the ideas on p.3 you might choose ARTS & MUSIC and then break that down to a specific type of music or even a specific artist.

1.1 STATE YOUR PROJECTThis is where you tell us what you have decided your project is going to be about. Try and think of a title that describes exactly what you are going to do! Tell us what your overall intention for your project is, and what it will cover.

For example, you might choose to focus your project on Stormzy and specifically his headline performance at Glastonbury, so your title might be “Stormzy Headlines Glastonbury” and your description will give a little bit of detail on what you are going to do and why you have chosen this subject for your project.

For example, I am going to research Stormzy and his music because I am interested in rap & grime music, especially British artists. I also want to know more about why his performance at Glastonbury in 2019 was considered to be so significant and learn more about the stories behind the headlines.

My project title is:

A description of my chosen project:

Page 7: 1. SELECTING YOUR PROJECT - princes-trust.org.uk  · Web viewDon’t forget to tick things off on your Task List as you complete them as this helps you to stay focussed and it shows

1.2 OUTLINE THE AIMS OF THE PROJECTThis is where you tell us what your overall intentions are for your project. They are the reasons why you are doing the research and tell us what you hope to achieve by completing your project.

For example, your title is “Stormzy Headlines Glastonbury” and one of your aims is: To explain why Stormzy’s Glastonbury performance was such a historic and iconic show. Try and outline at least 3 aims for your project.

The aims of my project are:

1.

2.

3.

4.

1.3 EXPLAIN THE PERSONAL LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR YOUR PROJECT

Page 8: 1. SELECTING YOUR PROJECT - princes-trust.org.uk  · Web viewDon’t forget to tick things off on your Task List as you complete them as this helps you to stay focussed and it shows

This is where you tell us what you want to achieve by completing your project. It will be based on what skills or knowledge you hope to develop and tells us what you, personally, hope to achieve by completing your project.

Explain why you want to achieve these particular objectives.

For example, you might want to focus on a specific skill, like using the internet to research a topic or developing your ICT & Presentation skills, because you’re interested in a career in ICT or tech. You might focus on learning something new and improving your knowledge about your topic. Or you might focus on broader theme, like, developing your confidence to improve your employability skills. Try and explain at least 3 personal learning objectives.

My personal learning objectives are:

1.

2.

3.

4.

2. PLANNING YOUR PROJECTNow that you have decided on your title, aims & personal learning objectives you can start to work out your plan! This stage of your project is important as it starts to break down your project into individual tasks and helps you to structure your activities to make sure everything gets done. This is a key part of this unit as you will start to develop your project management skills.

Think about all the ideas that you have had so far and what you will need to do to make sure you meet your aims.

For example, you will probably need to do some internet research, you might want to print some information out, you might need to download a video clip and then you will need to decide how you are going to present

the information.

2.1 IDENTIFY THE TASKS NEEDED TO COMPLETE YOUR PROJECTMy Task List

Task

e.g. Internet research

Page 10: 1. SELECTING YOUR PROJECT - princes-trust.org.uk  · Web viewDon’t forget to tick things off on your Task List as you complete them as this helps you to stay focussed and it shows

2.2/2.3 STATE THE RESOURCES NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT AND EXPLAIN WHY THE RESOURCE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE PROJECTAre there any resources that you need in order to complete your project? Create a list below of what you will need and explain why each resource is required.

Resource

Resource Needed

e.g. Internet access e.g. I need internet access to carry out research on a particular topic.

Page 11: 1. SELECTING YOUR PROJECT - princes-trust.org.uk  · Web viewDon’t forget to tick things off on your Task List as you complete them as this helps you to stay focussed and it shows

2.4 PRODUCE A DETAILED PLAN FOR THE PROJECT STATING WHEN EACH TASK WILL BE STARTED AND COMPLETEDFill in the table below, creating a timeline for your project. Try and provide as much detail of what’s involved in each task and try also to prioritise your tasks so that you follow a logical order to complete your project.

You could try doing some internet research into Project Management tools that are commonly used to plan projects, one example is a Gantt Chart and if you choose to use something like this you could submit that as additional evidence as well as the table below. Remember the key thing here is to produce a ‘detailed plan’ so make sure you break down tasks into individual elements.

For example, you cannot put together a Powerpoint presentation first as you will need to complete your research and plan how you want to structure your presentation. You may need to download pictures and/or video clips to insert into your presentation and this has to be done before you start to put your presentation together.

3. CARRYING OUT YOUR PROJECTNow that you have listed all of the tasks that you need to complete to carry out your project it is time for ACTION!

Don’t forget to tick things off on your Task List as you complete them as this helps you to stay focussed and it shows you your progress as you work through things step-by-step.

Use this space to insert photos, a witness statement or other evidence to show you completing your project. You can include other types of evidence, for example, a Powerpoint Presentation, a Poster or video clip and some of your research will also be useful additional, supporting evidence.

4. REVIEWING YOUR PROJECT4.1 PRESENT THE PROJECT TO AN AUDIENCE USING AN APPROPRIATE FORMAT

Now that you have completed your project you need to present it to an

audience and review it. This presentation can be quite brief and in whatever format you choose. It should explain & describe the project and the process involved in completing it. Outline what your aims and personal learning objectives were as well as the topic and subject that you researched.

Your next steps after this are to review your project so reflecting on what you’ve done when you are planning and presenting your project will be helpful in the final stage of the project.

Use this space to insert photos, a witness statement or other evidence to show you presenting your project. You can include other types of evidence, for example, a copy of your slides or handouts from your Powerpoint Presentation, a video recording or recording of an online presentation, for example using Microsoft Teams to present your project to a virtual audience online. Some of your research will also be useful additional, supporting evidence.

4.3 REVIEW WHETHER YOUR PROJECT MET THE AIMS

Page 19: 1. SELECTING YOUR PROJECT - princes-trust.org.uk  · Web viewDon’t forget to tick things off on your Task List as you complete them as this helps you to stay focussed and it shows

Take a look at your original project aims and personal objectives. Did your project meet these? How? What did you learn?

For example, one of your project aims might have been to learn more about Glastonbury festival, and you may have met that aim by researching the history of the festival. You may have completed this research on the internet, therefore if one of your personal learning objectives was to improve your IT skills, you’ve met it!

Examples of how my project met my aims are:

4.4 EVALUATE YOUR OWN LEARNING AND PERFORMANCE ON THE

PROJECTThis is where you reflect on the skills that you have used and developed to complete your project. What have you learned? What went well? How could you improve? Did you meet all your personal learning objectives?

My evaluation:
