1. Q: Does a Neighbourhood Plan need to include any housing or other development? A: No, if Earswick residents do not wish to see any further development then the plan can reflect this. 2. Q: Do we need to include housing or other development to satisfy the City Council planners? A: No, clearly it would make the job much easier for the Council if we were to give up land for development then they would not need to look elsewhere, such as brownfield sites or other more suitable areas with a much better infrastructure. 3. Q: If we agree to a small amount of development in Earswick will this stop the Council or developers from imposing further development on us? A: No, if we were to offer small areas for development there is nothing to stop the Council imposing even more!! 4. Q: If we don't include any development in the Neighbourhood Plan could we be forced to give up parts of the green belt for unwanted development? A: No, there must be exceptional circumstances to build on the green belt and planning applications have already been turned down in Earswick because of this, once the Local Plan is agreed and the currently proposed large site that is to be safeguarded for development is removed, then the green belt will receive further designation and protection. 5. Q: Can the Neighbourhood Plan guarantee what types of properties are built (e.g. bungalows which are less obtrusive and ideal for older residents)? A: No, you may remember that smaller properties were originally planned for the Fosslands development but the developers later changed their plans and built large executive properties, developers prefer houses rather than bungalows as they can build more, due to the footprint of bungalows taking up more land, and obviously make more money. 6. Q: What has happened to the brownfield first proposals we have all heard about? A: Elected representative from the Conservative/Liberal coalition are often reported as saying that they wish to see brownfield site development first, however it is cheaper and easier to develop green belt land and recent moves by the Conservative party to change the rules to allow green belt development are very worrying. 7. Q: What has happened to the draft local plan that included Site SF14 and the proposal for 2,000 new homes? A: Contrary to the information provided at the Neighbourhood Plan Public Meeting, the draft plan has not been discarded, it still includes the large site at Earswick and is a working document that the City Councilors are refining, our aim is still ongoing to press for the safeguarded site at Earswick to be completely removed from the plan.
