Project Motivation• According to World Health Organization approximately

10 million people in a year die resulting from cardiovascular complications

• In America every 20 second a heart attack occurs

• 50% die an hour from a heart attack due to not receiving

prompt medical attention

• Every minute a heart attack death occurs in America

Data Acquisition

• Originally an ECG heart monitor was purchased – Unfortunately the product was defective!

• We built an ECG circuit ourselves

Data Processing

• MC will continuously check for one type of abnormality

• Duration of Q wave reaching the baseline is the main criteria to detect heart attack

Data Transmission

• As soon as heart attack is detected:– The Bluetooth Module will initiate a connection to

user’s cell phone

– One line of code is transferred to the cell phone to initiate the phone call to emergency personnel

Test Plan

• In order to test the heart attack signal, we used LabView to generate the signals.

• Signals are fed to MC, from the phone jack of the computer

• A circuit was built to invert the signal before feeding it to MC

• Moreover, DC offset was eliminated by using the circuit

• Immense need for prompt medical assistance for heart attack victims

• Committed to design a reliable and cost effective device to detect and alert medical personnel in a timely manner to save lives

• Future work could include GPS system to locate the patient, adding more functionalities such as wider range of cardiovascular abnormalities and…
