Applications are invited from suitable candidates for the following posts tenable in the National

Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, (NIIST) Thiruvananthapuram, a Premier research

Institute under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). The Institute has been engaged in

R&D programmes in board areas of Chemical and Biosciences, Advanced Materials, Computational

Modelling & Simulation and Process Science and Engineering and other areas. NIIST is looking for bright

and highly dedicated candidates for the following positions:-

1. POST NAME : Medical Officer, Gr.III(4) – 1 (UR) in the Pay scale of PB-3,

Rs.15600-39100 with Grade Pay Rs.5400+25% Non-practicing allowance on Basic

Pay.

Qualifications of Medical Officer, Gr.III(4) : M.B.B.S Degree from a recognized University.

Work Experience: Should have minimum of 6 years experience after completing

Housemanship/internship out of which a minimum of 2-3 years experience in an established

Hospital/Health Centre/Dispensary, attached to Institutions/Public Sector Units. The candidate

should be possessing of permanent Registration number.

Job requirement:- Examining patients, prescribing medicines, attending to emergencies during

the office hours, beyond the office hours and on holidays in an outpatient setup.

Desirable: Knowledge of local language(Malayalam) is preferred

Age limit not exceeding : 35 years as on 14.09.2010

2. POST NAME: Staff Nurse(Female), Gr.II(1)-1 (UR) in the Pay scale of PB-1,

Rs.5200-20200 with Grade Pay Rs.1900.

Qualification of Staff Nurse, Gr.II(1): SSC/10th

standard with science subjects with 55% marks

plus Diploma in Nursing and midwifery of three years full time duration OR Bachelors degree of 3

year duration in nursing from recognized university/institution. The candidate must be registered

with the respective Nursing Councils.

Desirable Qualifications: Work experience as Staff Nurse in a registered Hospital/Nursing Home,

Knowledge of handling Medical Equipments and Computer Awareness.

Job requirement: The incumbent of the position is required to render assistance to the Medical

Officer of the Health Centre of the institute in rendering medical/nursing care and attention to the

staff of the institute and their families including Council Pensioners, besides attending to functions

such as administering injections, intravenous fluids, dressing, testing, ECG etc. as per the

directions of the Medical Officer.

Age limit not exceeding : 28 years as on 14.09.2010.

AGE LIMIT AND RELAXATIONS:

1. The date for determining the upper age limit, qualifications and or experience shall be the

closing date prescribed for receipt of application form ie 14.09.2010

2. Upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years in the case of SC/ST and by 3 years in the case of

OBC candidates for the posts which are reserved for the respective categories, Relaxation of

upper age limit for Persons With Disabilities, Ex-servicemen and meritorious sportspersons

will be applicable as per GOI rules. The SC/ST/OBC candidates who apply against

unreserved vacancies will not be eligible for age relaxation.

3. Relaxation in the upper age limit of 5 years applicable for persons who had ordinarily been

domiciled in the Kashmir Division of the state of Jammu & Kashmir during the period

1.1.1980 to 31.12.1989 subject to production of a certificate from the District Magistrate in the

Kashmir Division within whose jurisdiction he/ she had ordinarily resided OR from any other

authority designated in this behalf by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir to the effect that

he/she had ordinarily been domiciled in the Kashmir Division of the state of Jammu &

Kashmir during the period from 1.1.1980 to 31.12.1989.

4. Relaxation in age, qualification and /or experience may be permitted if sufficient number of

candidates possessing the requisite qualification and /or experience are not likely to be

available to fill up the posts.

General Conditions:

1. Only Indian Nationals need apply. (a) The posts carry usual allowances as admissible to Central Government employees

as made applicable to CSIR employees of the same pay and status stationed at Trivandrum.

(b) The post is pensionable based on defined contribution under the New Pension Scheme which has been in vogue with effect from 01.01.2004.

2. The applications have to be submitted on prescribed proforma which can be downloaded

from www.niist.res.in or obtained on request by sending self-addressed stamped envelope from the Administrative, NIIST, Industrial Estate. P.O, Pappanamcode, Trivandrum.

3. In addition to the emoluments indicated above, benefits such as New Pension Scheme of

GOI, Leave Travel Concession, Reimbursement of medical expenses are available as per rules.

4. Application for each post should be submitted separately indicating clearly the advt. no.

and name of the post, post no. on the top of the envelope containing application.

5. Incomplete applications as well as those without the prescribed fee will be summarily

rejected.

6. Applications from the candidates working the Govt. Department,, Public Sector undertaking will be considered only if forwarded through proper channel and with a clear certificate that the applicant will be relieved within one month of receipt of appointment order. However, advance copy of the application may be submitted before the closing date and No Objection Certificate may be submitted at the time of interview. Applications routed through proper channel should reach this Institute at the earliest.

7. Mere fulfilling of minimum prescribed qualifications and experience will not vest any right

in a candidates for being called for interview. The Institute reserves the right to call for interview only those candidates who on its opinion are likely to be suitable and will not entertain any correspondence in this regard.

8. Relaxation in age limit, qualification and experience in case of exceptionally meritorious

candidates( both departmental and outsiders) may be allowed with the prior approval of the competent authority.

9. The period of experience in a discipline/are of work where ever prescribed shall be

counted with effect from the date of acquiring the prescribed minimum educational qualification for that Group/Grade.

10. Candidates may opt answering in Hindi at the time of Interview.

11. Applications received after the due date and applications that are incomplete are liable to be rejected.

12. The Director, NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram, reserves the right not to fill up any/all the

posts, if he so desires. The number of vacancies indicated above are provisional and may vary at the time of actual Selection.
