Writing dialogue in prose

Direct speech refers to the written version of the exact words that a person or character speaks out loud.

‘'I wasn’t gonna stay no place where I

couldn’t get nowhere or make something

of myself…'’

Using direct speech in your imaginative writing can help to add realism to the piece, as it allows you to give a character’s point of view in their own words.
