Is Halloween For Christians?

2

Kid's Treat or Pagan Trick?

• History tells us the Druids sacrificed people to cast spells and even fought against Caesar.

• They used magic to raise storms, create magical obstacles, and even kill people.

• October 31st was celebrated by the Druids with many human sacrifices and a festival honoring their sun god and Samhain, the lord of the dead.

3

Kid's Treat or Pagan Trick?

• Many of their rituals were performed at Stonehenge in England.

• Today, direct descendants of the Druids gather and perform their rituals at this place.

4

Kid's Treat or Pagan Trick?

• The custom of going house to house was part of the Druid ritual to receive gifts for the God Samhain.

• People gave gifts for fear that the Druids would cast spells on them if they didn’t.

• People would carve a pumpkin with an evil face with a candle lit inside to keep the evil spirits of the Druids away.

5

Some Heroes of Halloween

• Yes Dracula was for real!• He actually lived from

1431 to 1476.• During his six year reign

he massacred 100,000 men, women and children in the most hideous ways.

• He chopped people’s heads off and put them on a poles.

6

Dracula Was For Real!• He devised a plan to

rid his country of the burden of beggars, handicapped, sick and aged.

• He would invite them to a party to his castle and killed them with fire.

• The origin of the house of horror incorporated into Halloween.

7

Witches

• One of the oldest paintings found is of a witch – nude and flying on a broom stick with a pointy hat.

• They are also mentioned throughout the bible.

• Witches are feared most of the year except for Halloween.

8

Halloween Traditions• Black cats are also a symbol of Halloween.

The Celts believed that black cats had once been people.

• Those who practice witchcraft believe that witches can turn in to black cats and vice-versa.

• Since the ancient Celts believed that the spirits of the dead walked abroad during Halloween, they believed that if you wore a costume, then you would fool the dead into thinking you were one of them and they would leave you alone.

9

What’s The Harm of Halloween!• Halloween accentuates

mutilation, murder, blood, guts and gore.

• Yet Halloween is quickly becoming a major influence in businesses and also in the lives of young children.

• Recently a mother found her son’s diary and read that he ran over a kid during Halloween for the devil and planned to do it again.

10

Halloween in America

• Halloween was not celebrated in America until 1900 although popular for centuries through out the world.

• The Pilgrims banned it because of the occultist origins of Halloween.

• Irish immigrants brought it over in 1845 and it gradually gained acceptance.

• It is now a great money-making holiday for businesses.

11

Halloween in America• Many churches have

the children dress up in costumes and celebrate a “Christian” Halloween.

• This is one of the two holidays observed by public schools besides Valentine’s day.

• Their reason? Because it is a non-religious holiday!

12

Halloween in America

• William J. Schnoebelen: a Satanist, explains that children will open up a spiritual doorway that may lead to demonic possession or oppression by going house to house, trick or treating.

What Does The Bible Say? Deuteronomy18:10-12

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

14

What does the Bible Say?Those that practice these rituals have no part in

heaven.Galatians 5:19-21Now the works of the flesh are manifest,

which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

15

What Does the Bible Say?When people turn to the Lord, they had to

leave all these things behind them!Acts 19:18-19And many that believed came, and

confessed, and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

16

What Does the Bible Say?Christians can’t do what the heathen do!1 Corinthians10:20-21But I say, that the things which the

Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

Ephesians 5:11And have no fellowship with the unfruitful

works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

17

What does the Bible Say?Rebelliousness is like witchcraft!1 Samuel 15:23For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,

and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Jeremiah 16:12And ye have done worse than your fathers; for,

behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me:

18

What Does the Bible Say?There is an established connection between

rebellion and witchcraft.Jeremiah 27:8-10And it shall come to pass, that the nation and

kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

19

Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish.
