DIRE CIRCUMSTANCES
• If You Select The Wrong Serial Port And Attempt To Connect, You May Place The Serial Port Into An Unusable State And The Application Will Not Respond
• Sometimes Even The Stop And Run Buttons Can’t Help You
• You Should Exit The Application - You May Have To Use Windows To Terminate The Application - And Start It Again
• If This Does Not Fix The Problem
• You Will Need To Reset The Serial Ports On Your Computer
• Unfortunately, This Requires You To Cycle Power On Your PC - Make Sure You Shut Down Windows Properly

CONFIGURING LabView
• There Are Two Items You Will Need To Configure– Which Serial Port You Will Be Using To Communicate With The
Zeno
– Your Modem Will Have To Be Configured To Ignore The DTR Signal
• On Most Computers, There Will Be One Serial Port Devoted To The Modem And A Second Serial Port For The Direct Connection
• Depending Upon How You Are Using LabView, You Will Probably Have To Change The Serial Port Setting When You Go Into A Station And Again When You Use LabView From Home
• The Baud Rate, Word Length, Parity, Stop Bits, And Other Communication Parameters Are Fixed And Cannot Be Changed
9 IPS MeteoStarApril 28, 1999
CONFIGURING YOUR MODEM
• There Are Many Different Modems Available
• Most Modems Use A Variation Of A Standard Set Of Commands To Configure The Modem - These Are Known As “AT” Commands
• BUT, You Should Always Refer To The Manual That Came With Your Modem
• The Following Commands Have Been Found To Configure Most Of The Modems TNRCC Uses:
– AT&D0 Set Modem To Ignore DTR Signal
– AT&W0 Store Current Modem Configuration To NVRAM
– AT&Y0 Set Modem To Load Configuration Stored In
NVRAM On Reset Or Power Up

TRADING DATA
• One Of The Neatest Features Of Windows 95 Is The Ability To Easily Move Data Between Programs
• This Is Very Useful To You When Creating Complex Operator Log Entries
• If It Takes You Too Long To Enter Your Operator Log Message From Within LabView, The Program Will Time Out And What You Have Typed Will Be Lost
• It Is Far Easier And Safer To User Another Program Such As Notepad To Create The Log Entry Then Cut And Paste Into The Labview Operator Log Interface
• If You Want, You Could Use Word Perfect And Even Spell Check Your Work - However, Using Word Perfect Is Probably Not A Good Idea Since It May Embed Strange Invisible Characters Into Your Log Entry
22 IPS MeteoStarApril 28, 1999
CUTTING...
1. Start Notepad From The Menu
2. Type Your Long, Complicated Log Entry
3. Use The Mouse To Highlight What You Typed
