3 MODES OF COMMUNICATION:● Interpretive: The student can understand written and spoken
language from a variety of sources.(30% of overall grade)
● Interpersonal: The student can spontaneously express him/her self through oral and written communication in a variety of everyday situations.

Opportunities for scholarships and community involvement
ILLINOIS STATE SEAL OF BILITERACY AWARD: This is a national movement to recognize students for proficiency in English as well as another language. We are among nine states in the country that recognize this achievement as law. In Illinois, the language proficiency level required in both English and another language is Intermediate High. This means that someone is able to converse with ease and confidence when dealing with the routine tasks and simple social situations requiring an exchange of basic information. Students will be prepared in each level at VVSD and encouraged to take this exam their senior year to receive this honor.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) CREDIT: Although specific AP language courses are not yet offered at VVSD, students who continue on in a language will be eligible to take the AP exam in the future. This has many benefits, as many universities grant free credits for certain scores or will exempt students from language requirements. The course curriculum structure and topics are designed to prepare students for this exam and we strongly encourage students who continue on to the upper levels to take the exam during their final year of language to receive credit.

HERITAGE SPANISH I TOPICS/THEMES!● Semestre 1: Unidad 1: Identidad: ¿Quién soy yo? ¿Cuál es mi identidad cultural?:
Reflexionarán sobre sus experiencias con la cultura latina y americana para poder hablar sobre qué forma sus
identidades.● Unidad 2: Familias y Comunidad: ¿Cuál es el papel de tradiciones en mi vida?: Los
estudiantes examinarán el papel de la tradición en sus vidas. Compararán las culturas y tradiciones del mundo hispano.
● Semestre 2: Unidad 3: La Juventud y La Niñez: ¿Qué significa crecer como Latino? Los estudiantes contarán sobre su
niñez. Analizarán lo que ha influido el desarrollo de su identidad.● Unidad 4: Desafíos Globales: La Inmigración: Los estudiantes reflexionarán sobre
las causas de la inmigración. Describirán el proceso de asimilación.

3 MODOS DE COMUNICACIÓN:- Interpretativa (Leer/Escuchar): Hablantes de nivel principiante
pueden identificar palabras y frases claves, detalles y la idea principal en un audio o texto. (30%)
- Interpersonal (Hablar): A hablantes de nivel principiante se les dicen los pericos. Esto quiere decir que son muy buenos para repetir frases y preguntas para comunicar. (30%)
- Presentacional (Hablar/Escribir): Hablantes de nivel principiante hacen presentaciones sobre temas que conocen bien usando frases que practican mucho, en la escritura al igual que en el discurso. (30%)

¿QUÉ OPORTUNIDADES FUTURAS CON IDIOMAS HAY DISPONIBLES EN VVSD?ILLINOIS STATE SEAL OF BILITERACY AWARD: Este es un movimiento nacional para reconocer a los estudiantes con competencia en inglés además de otro idioma. En Illinois, estamos entre veintiuno estados en el país que reconoce este logro como ley. En el estado, el nivel de competencia requerido del idioma en inglés y otro idioma es intermedio alto. Esto significa que alguien puede conversar con facilidad y confianza cuando se envuelve en situaciones sociales y de rutina requiriendo un intercambio de información básica. Los estudiantes estarán preparados en cada nivel de VVSD y serán alentados a tomar esta prueba en su último año en la preparatoria para recibir este honor. CREDITO DE NIVEL AVANZADO (AP): Todos los cursos de nivel cuatro son cursos AP en VVSD, Estamos orgullosos de ofrecer AP Español, AP Español para hispanohablantes, y AP Francés. El hacerlo tiene muchos beneficios ya que existen muchas universidades que conceden créditos gratis por ciertas notas en el examen o exentarán a los estudiantes de los requisitos del lenguaje. Al inicio de los cursos de nivel uno, los temas y la estructura de este plan de estudios son diseñados para preparar a los estudiantes para este examen. Todos los estudiantes que toman los cursos AP tomarán el examen durante su año de lenguaje final para recibir el crédito.
