Installing CCleaner on your Student ComputerTechnology Elevated

1. Go to https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner.

2. Choose the Download option highlighted in red in the screenshot below. This will give you the free, unpaid version of CCleaner.

3. On the download page, choose to download CCleaner from the Piriform.com portal, as shown in the screenshot below.

4. You will see a confirmation on the following page that says “Your download should automatically start within a few seconds.” If using Google Chrome, you will see the download start in the bottom left corner. If prompted to accept the download, select Yes or Agree.

5. Once the download is complete, click on it to launch the installation.

6. The Piriform CCleaner Installation Wizard will initiate and should look like the dialog box below.

7. Choose the desired language and then click Next.

8. Select the desired options for Installation. Creating a desktop icon will make it more convenient when opening the program, but it is not required. After you choose the desired options, click Install.

9. Allow the program to install. Once the installation is complete, you can leave the checkbox for Run CCleaner v4.14 checked so CCleaner can run now.

10. Once CCleaner opens, a few modifications will be necessary before you start the cleaning. Any items checked will result in files on your computer being deleted (no option will delete personal files such as My Documents, My Pictures, etc.). The boxes checked in the screenshot below are some SUGGESTED options you may want to choose.

11. Once you choose the options that best suit you, choose Run Cleaner to allow CCleaner to clean the selected files.

12. Once the clean has been completed, you should see the Cleaning Complete dialog. This will give you a breakdown of what was removed and the size of the files. CCleaner should be run either once a week or when you feel your computer has become “sluggish.” The CCleaner options demonstrated in this tutorial are just suggestions and Lees-McRae College nor the Information Technology department are responsible for any files deleted during this scan. Please understand each option thoroughly before choosing to clean them. If you do not understand what an option means, please uncheck the box to prevent any confusion or damage.
