    2. Job analysis and Job descriptionJob Analysis is the process used to collect information about theduties, responsibilities, necessary skills, outcomes, and workenvironment of a particular job.

    Job Descriptions are written statements that describe the:Duties, responsibilities, most important contributions andoutcomes needed from a position,required qualifications of candidates, and reporting relationship and co-workers of aparticular job.

    1. Manpower PlanningIt involves the planning for the future and finding out

    how many employees will be needed in the future by thebusiness and what types of skills should they possess.

    4. Recruitment and SelectionOne of the most important jobs HR department is to recruitthe best people for the organization. This is of crucialimportance as the success of any organization depend onthe quality of its workforce.

    3. Determining wages and salariesHR Department is also involved in conducting marketsurveys and determining the wages and salaries for different position in an organization. These decision maybe taken in consultation with top management and theFinance department.

    5. Performance AppraisalIs the process of obtaining, analyzing and recordinginformation about the relative worth of an employee.

    8. Addressing employees grievances

    HR department is the link between the workers and themanagement. Employees grievances related workenvironment are usually entertained and resolved by the HRDepartment.

    7. Employee welfare and motivationHappy employees mean a healthy organization. HRDepartment conducts various employee welfare activitieswhich might include employees get together, annual staff parties etc. HR department also reviews organizationalpolicies and its impact on the motivation of theemployees.

    10. Implementing organizational policies

    HR Department has to coordinate with line manager and seethat the organizational policies are being implemented in aproper manner. Disciplinary action can be initiated againstemployees who are not following organizational rules andregulations. All these actions are conceived andimplemented by the HR department.

    9. Labor management relationsFor the smooth operation of any organization, it is crucial tohave good labor management relations. HR department has toensure that these relations are cordial. In case of any labor-

    management conflict the HR Department will play a vital role inbringing both management parties to the negotiation table andresolving the issue.

    11. Dismissal and redundancyHR Department has to take firm actions against

    employees who are not following the organizational codeof conduct, rules and regulations. This can result in thedismissal of the employee.

    Sometimes, an organization may no more requirethe services of an employee. The employee may be maderedundant. HR Department has to see that organizationaland government regulations are being followed in thisprocess.
